Book Synopsis Plasmas créés par laser : généralités et applications choisies by : Patrick Mora
Download or read book Plasmas créés par laser : généralités et applications choisies written by Patrick Mora and published by EDP Sciences. This book was released on 2021-06-17 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis On the Edge of Magnetic Fusion Devices by : Sergei Krasheninnikov
Download or read book On the Edge of Magnetic Fusion Devices written by Sergei Krasheninnikov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-07 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the current state of understanding concerning edge plasma, which bridges hot fusion plasma, with a temperature of roughly one million degrees Kelvin with plasma-facing materials, which have melting points of only a few thousand degrees Kelvin. In a fact, edge plasma is one of the keys to solution for harnessing fusion energy in magnetic fusion devices. The physics governing the processes at work in the edge plasma involves classical and anomalous transport of multispecies plasma, neutral gas dynamics, atomic physics effects, radiation transport, plasma-material interactions, and even the transport of plasma species within the plasma-facing materials. The book starts with simple physical models, then moves on to rigorous theoretical considerations and state-of-the-art simulation tools that are capable of capturing the most important features of the edge plasma phenomena. The authors compare the conclusions arising from the theoretical and computational analysis with the available experimental data. They also discuss the remaining gaps in their models and make projections for phenomena related to edge plasma in magnetic fusion reactors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text presented here is an extended english version of a report by the authors which appeared in April 1983 at the Institute of Cosmical Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in German. It covers several selected topics on nonlinear wave-plasma interactio,ll in a treatment based on a hydrodynamic plasma description. Thus, no attempt has been made to give a comprehensive view on all aspects of the interaction of strong electromagnetic waves with plasmas. The text is partly introductory and presents partly current results. The authors hope that it will be of interest to students and scientists not only in the field of plasma physics. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology includes articles on experimental studies of the interaction of high-power electromag netic waves with collisionless plasmas and with electrons. The nonlinear interaction of waves with plasmas has been investigated both under free space conditions and in waveguides. A study of secondary-emission dis charges was made in order to ascertain their possible effect on measurements in waveguides. The results presented here on the interaction of high-power waves with plasmas and electrons are of interest to a wide range of physicists and engineers concerned with various questions on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with plasmas, including microwave heating of plasmas and laser fusion. v CONTENTS An Experimental Investigation of Nonlinear Dissipation of Electromagnetic Waves in Inhomogeneous Collisionless Plasmas - G.M. Book Synopsis Computational Methods for Kinetic Models of Magnetically Confined Plasmas by : J. Killeen
Download or read book Computational Methods for Kinetic Models of Magnetically Confined Plasmas written by J. Killeen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because magnetically confined plasmas are generally not found in a state of thermodynamic equilibrium, they have been studied extensively with methods of applied kinetic theory. In closed magnetic field line confinement devices such as the tokamak, non-Maxwellian distortions usually occur as a result of auxiliary heating and transport. In magnetic mirror configurations even the intended steady state plasma is far from local thermodynamic equilibrium because of losses along open magnetic field lines. In both of these major fusion devices, kinetic models based on the Boltzmann equation with Fokker-Planck collision terms have been successful in representing plasma behavior. The heating of plasmas by energetic neutral beams or microwaves, the production and thermalization of a-particles in thermonuclear reactor plasmas, the study of runaway electrons in tokamaks, and the performance of two-energy compo nent fusion reactors are some examples of processes in which the solution of kinetic equations is appropriate and, moreover, generally necessary for an understanding of the plasma dynamics. Ultimately, the problem is to solve a nonlinear partial differential equation for the distribution function of each charged plasma species in terms of six phase space variables and time. The dimensionality of the problem may be reduced through imposing certain symmetry conditions. For example, fewer spatial dimensions are needed if either the magnetic field is taken to be uniform or the magnetic field inhomogeneity enters principally through its variation along the direction of the field.
Book Synopsis Plasma Behavior in a Romac Magnetic Field by : L. S. Combes
Download or read book Plasma Behavior in a Romac Magnetic Field written by L. S. Combes and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A PLASMA CONTAINMENT DEVICE ENTITLED ROMAC (ROTATED MAGNETIC CUSP) WASCONSTRUCTED. AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO COMBINE THE BASIC STABILITY ADVANTAGES OF FOUR-POLE LINE CUSP WITH THE LOW LOSS RATE OF A MORROR FIELD. THE MAGNETIC FIELD FOR ROMAC WAS PRODUCED BY ADDING A MIRROR FIELD ORTHONGONALLY TO THE CUSP FIELD. USING PULSE TECHNIQUES AN IONIZED GAS WAS CREATED WITHIN A BICONICAL CHAMBER AND THE ROMAC MAGNETIC FIELD PRODUCED TRANSIENTLY WITH THE MIRROR FIELD ALONG THE AXIS OF THE CHAMBER(Z AXIS) AND THE CUSP FIELD IN THE X-Y PLANE. MEASUREMENTS WITH MAGNETIC PROBES AND LIGHT PIPES SHOW THAT A DISTURBANCE IN THE MAGNETIC FIELD, ACCOMPANIED BY AN INCREASE IN LIGHT INTENSITY, STARTED AT THE PERIPHERY OF THE PLASMA CHAMBER AND WAS PROPAGATED INWARD AT TWO VELOCITIES TO THE CENTRAL AXIS. DETAILED MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE ON THE MAGNETIC FIELD CONFIGURATION. THESE INDICATE THAT, AT THE TIME THE SECOND WAVE ARRIVED AT THE AXIS, THE MIRROR HIELD HAD BEEN TO A LARGE EXTENT SEPARATED FROM THE CUSP FIELD SO THAT MOSTLY MIRROR FIELD EXISTED THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL REGION, WHILE MOSTLY CUSP FIELD EXISTED IN THE OUTER REGION. THE INTENSITY OF THE FIELD AT THIS TIME IN THE CENTRAL REGION INDICATES THAT THE CUSP FIELD WAS COMPRESSING THE PLASMA AND MIRRORFIELD IN THIS REGION WERE EVEN LARGER THAN THE MAXIMUM INTENSITY OF THE APPLIED MIRROR FIELD.
