Book excerpt: An in-depth examination of Google's innovative approach to M&A Semi-Organic Growth presents a unique analysis of Google's distinctive expertise in the area of mergers and acquisitions, derived from more than 150 acquisitions carried out over the company's short history. While organizational growth has traditionally been characterized as organic (internally generated) or inorganic (from acquisition), this book examines Google's semi-organic strategy for accelerating product and service revenue, explained through a unique sector/subsector classification scheme that dynamically maps the media, Internet, and technology platform markets. You'll gain insight into Google's disclosure strategies for private company transactions, and more importantly, their methods for integrating acquisitions into product and service offerings to achieve ecosystem synergy. Unique perspective reveals the lessons learned along the way from both successes and failures, and the companion website gives you access to the tools that help you implement what you've learned. Google's extensive use of M&A as a growth strategy has been in sharp contrast to the practices of rivals like Apple, and further contrasts with the failures of many other companies in corporate business development. This book shows you the thinking behind the company's successful methods, and demonstrates the mechanisms behind the success. Learn why corporate M&A activity often fails to add value Delve deep into the complex dimensions of M&A integration Discover what Google has learned through specific deals Consider innovative integration methods that foster synergy Google is an iconic, premiere company, and it didn't happen by accident. Book Synopsis The Language of Politics by : Michael L. Geis
Download or read book The Language of Politics written by Michael L. Geis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is the second of two I have done concerning how language is used to persuade others to believe things and to do things. The first, published by Aca demic Press, was The Language of Television Advertising, and was concerned with how advertisers use language in their efforts to sell products and services and how consumers could be expected to understand it. In this study, the focus is on how politicians use language to win elections and get others to accept their policies and programs and on how journalists report the suasive efforts of politicans. I combine an interest in the language of political reporting with an interest in the language of politics for a number of reasons. First, much of the suasive rhetoric of politicians is filtered through the minds of political journalists before it reaches the citizenry, and we can be reasonably sure that this rhetoric does not come out the way it went in. Second, the press plays a significant role in deter mining the nation's political agenda through its choices of what issues will be presented to the public, how these issues will be presented, and which voices will be heard speaking out on these issues. Third, political reporting can be suasive in effect, if not in intent, and it will be useful, I think, to understand how this is so.
Book Synopsis A Beatnik Trio: Like Crazy, Man / The Far-Out Ones / Beat Girl by : Richard E. Geis
Download or read book A Beatnik Trio: Like Crazy, Man / The Far-Out Ones / Beat Girl written by Richard E. Geis and published by Stark House Press. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BEATSPOLITATION Today we would call the sensationalizing of the cultural phenomenon known as the beat generation to sell books and movies, Beatsploitation. What you won't be reading in this volume are lost or overlooked classics of Beat Lit. Don't expect to find books the caliber of On the Road, Go, Junky or Last Exit to Brooklyn. The books herein were written to cash in on the beat movement... Although the writers of these books never achieved any literary grandeur, it shouldn't be inferred that they didn't have beatnik cred. Indeed, all three of the authors lived in that milieu-Coons and Golightly in Greenwich Village and Geis in Venice, California. These books don't have any literary pretension of defining what the beat movement was, but rather they reflect the places and period in which beatniks were prevalent. This fact doesn't make these books any less worth the attention of the student of the beat generation. Indeed more can be learned about the reaction of the public to the beatniks than by reading the entire oeuvre of authors such as Kerouac or Ginsberg... -from "How JFK Killed the Beatniks" by Jeff Vorzimmer

Book Synopsis Speech Acts and Conversational Interaction by : Michael L. Geis
Download or read book Speech Acts and Conversational Interaction written by Michael L. Geis and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-03-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study proposes a new theory of speech acts, Dynamic Speech Act Theory. It is predicated on the assumption that speech act theory, if it is to be of genuine empirical and theoretical significance, must be embedded within a general theory of conversational competence capable of accounting for how we do things with words in naturally occurring conversation, and it synthesizes traditional speech act theory, conversation analysis, and artificial intelligence research in natural language processing.
Download or read book Geis written by Caitríona O'Reilly and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geis is a word from Irish mythology meaning a supernatural taboo or injunction on behavior. In her third volume of poetry (following the critically acclaimed The Nowhere Birds and The Sea Cabinet), Caitríona O'Reilly examines the geis in all of its psychological, emotional, and moral suggestiveness: exploring the prohibitions and compulsions under which we sometimes place ourselves, or find ourselves placed. Geis is the first appearance of a volume by Caitríona O'Reilly in North America, though she has been anthologized numerous times, including in The Wake Forest Series of Irish Poetry, Volume I (2005) and The Wake Forest Book of Irish Women's Poetry (2nd edition, 2011). In poems that range from the searingly personal to the more playfully abstract and philosophical, this poet's characteristic imaginative range and linguistic verve are everywhere in evidence. These are poems that question our sometimes tenuous links with the world, with others, and even with ourselves, but which ultimately celebrate the richness of experience and the power of language to affirm it.
