Book Synopsis Gas Turbine Blade Cooling by : Chaitanya D Ghodke
Download or read book Gas Turbine Blade Cooling written by Chaitanya D Ghodke and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2018-12-10 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas turbines play an extremely important role in fulfilling a variety of power needs and are mainly used for power generation and propulsion applications. The performance and efficiency of gas turbine engines are to a large extent dependent on turbine rotor inlet temperatures: typically, the hotter the better. In gas turbines, the combustion temperature and the fuel efficiency are limited by the heat transfer properties of the turbine blades. However, in pushing the limits of hot gas temperatures while preventing the melting of blade components in high-pressure turbines, the use of effective cooling technologies is critical. Increasing the turbine inlet temperature also increases heat transferred to the turbine blade, and it is possible that the operating temperature could reach far above permissible metal temperature. In such cases, insufficient cooling of turbine blades results in excessive thermal stress on the blades causing premature blade failure. This may bring hazards to the engine's safe operation. Gas Turbine Blade Cooling, edited by Dr. Chaitanya D. Ghodke, offers 10 handpicked SAE International's technical papers, which identify key aspects of turbine blade cooling and help readers understand how this process can improve the performance of turbine hardware.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Failures Of Blades Is One Of The Most Vexing Problems Of Turbomachine Manufacturers, Ever Since The Steam Turbine Became The Main Stay For Power Generating Equipment And Gas Turbines Are Increasingly Used In The Air Transport. The Problem Is Very Complex, Involving The Excitation Due To Aerodynamic Stage Interaction; Damping Due To Material Deformation, Friction At Slip Surfaces And Aerodynamic Damping; Vibration Of An Asymmetric Aerofoil Tapered Along Its Length And Mounted On A Rotating Disc At A Stagger Angle. The Problem Is Also Governed By Heat Transfer Analysis And Thermal Stresses. His Book Deals With A Basic Understanding Of Free Vibratory Behaviour Of Turbine Blades- Free Standing, Packetted, And Bladed-Discs. The Analysis Is Based On Continuous And Discrete Models Using Energy Principles And Finite Element Techniques. A Clear Understanding Of The Interference Phenomenon In A Thin Cambered Airfoil Stage In Subsonic Flow Is Presented To Determine The Nonsteady Excitation Forces Acting On The Blades. A Comprehensive Treatment On The Blade Damping Phenomenon That Occurs In Turbines Is Given. The Nonlinear Damping Models Account For Material Damping And Friction Damping As A Function Of Rotational Speed For Each Mode. Resonant Response Calculation Procedures For The Steadily Running As Well As Accelerating Blades Are Given.Cumulative Damage Calculations Are Then Outlined For Fatigue Life Estimation Of Turbomachine Blades. The Book Also Deals With Heat Transfer Analysis And Thermal Stress Calculations Which Help In A Comprehensive Understanding Of The Blade Problems.

Book Synopsis Protective Coatings for Turbine Blades by : Y. Tamarin
Download or read book Protective Coatings for Turbine Blades written by Y. Tamarin and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2002 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the problem of surface protection for aircraft engine turbine blades. It is based on the author's 30+ years of work on the development and application of coatings to protect against oxidation and hot corrosion. It describes and details a methodology for optimizing turbine blade surface protection. The distinctions of this book from other publications on this topic include: The performance of protective coatings is assessed and evaluated by the complex interconnections of their chemical and phase composition, structure, and physical-mechanical properties; The properties of overlay coatings are given for the wide range of compositions, including the possible coatings states after their production and long-term service; The principles for calculating the stresses and strains for coated turbine blades are reviewed.

Book Synopsis Temperatures and Stresses on Hollow Blades for Gas Turbines by : Erich Pollman
Download or read book Temperatures and Stresses on Hollow Blades for Gas Turbines written by Erich Pollman and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present treatise reports on theoretical investigations and test-stand measurements which were carried out in the BMW Flugmotoren GMbH in developing the hollow blade for exhaust gas turbines. As an introduction the temperature variation and the stress on a turbine blade for a gas temperature of 900 degrees and circumferential velocities of 600 meters per second are discussed. The assumptions onthe heat transfer coefficients at the blade profile are supported by tests on an electrically heated blade model. The temperature distribution in the cross section of a blade Is thoroughly investigated and the temperature field determined for a special case. A method for calculation of the thermal stresses in turbine blades for a given temperature distribution is indicated. The effect of the heat radiation on the blade temperature also is dealt with. Test-stand experiments on turbine blades are evaluated, particularly with respect to temperature distribution in the cross section; maximum and minimum temperature in the cross section are ascertained. Finally, the application of the hollow blade for a stationary gas turbine is investigated. Starting from a setup for 550 C gas temperature the improvement of the thermal efficiency and the fuel consumption are considered as well as the increase of the useful power by use of high temperatures. The power required for blade cooling is taken into account.

This book was released on 2015-09-28 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Engineering - Aerospace Technology, grade: First class, Coventry University, course: Aerospace Engineering, language: English, abstract: This report paper explains the roll of a turbine blade and its analysis in today's jet engines. The report first discusses all the relevant information about how the conclusion of the turbine blade was reached from all the other probable components in the engine, then it moves on the full analysis of the turbine blade. Discussing about the maintenance and testing of the blade to see where the industry is and where its heading, then it moves on to the failure analysis. This shows the major pitfalls in the design of the blade and if a failure occurs, how the aircraft I built to react to such an incident. Material inspection and possible causes of failure is also discussed next, deformation characteristics due to thermally induced stress and new methods to prevent such failures is looked into.
