Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black Sabbath's Master of Reality has maintained remarkable historical status over several generations; it's a touchstone for the directionless, and common coin for young men and women who've felt excluded from the broader cultural economy. John Darnielle hears it through the ears of Roger Painter, a young adult locked in a southern California adolescent psychiatric center in 1985; deprived of his Walkman and hungry for comfort, he explains Black Sabbath as one might describe air to a fish, or love to an android, hoping to convince his captors to give him back his tapes.
Book Synopsis My Favorite Teacher Was an Ironworker by : Rick Taylor
Download or read book My Favorite Teacher Was an Ironworker written by Rick Taylor and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-08-25 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Rick Taylor had delivered many babies as a doctor but he learned that being a parent was much more important and special than being a doctor when he watched the birth of his son. This very ordinary experience began an extraordinary journey shared by father and son. "Lessons of Life" meanders through the lives of Dr. Taylor and his son while exposing the unlikely situations where surprising lessons are learned. The value of the lessons is not in their uniqueness as much as in the pedestrian nature of their occurrence. Father and son each survive first loves, near death experiences and personal quests to find a place in life. The comparison of these experiences and the lessons learned provide readers with moments of joy as well as sadness. It is the familiarity of these events that remind readers to recognize their own lessons and appreciate their teachers.
Book Synopsis Halloween, Hallowed Is Thy Name by : Eddie J. Smith
Download or read book Halloween, Hallowed Is Thy Name written by Eddie J. Smith and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Halloween has been referred to as the Devil's holiday, but all 365 1/4 days were created by and belong to Jesus. If Satan usurps even one day it is our Christian duty and responsibility to reclaim and redeem it in the name of our Lord. Are the imaginary ghouls and goblins of Halloween any more wicked than the jolly elf called Santa Claus, or the Easter bunny? Should the Church stop celebrating these holy days, the bookends of our faith, as well? Instead of battling the spiritual enemy on Halloween, the Church is guilty of crossing swords with one another. We fight among ourselves, not about "how" to celebrate Halloween, but whether it should even be observed. Jesus is more the "reason for the season" on Halloween than He is at Christmas. The Church must realize it is forfeiting Halloween as an opportunity to glorify the Prince of Peace, the One who has given us the victory over the "prince of darkness" and his evil minions. The Way, the Truth and the Life has conquered Death and the grave. By dressing up in costumes and portraying frightening creatures who at one time caused us to fear and tremble, we are not glorifying Satan. Rather, we are poking fun at the Serpent whose kingdom has been plundered by our Savior, and whose head has been crushed! Should we celebrate Halloween? The question is, "How can we not?" Halloween, Hallowed is Thy Name offers a believer confidence and joy in expressing the greeting "Happy Halloween."
