Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Copyright law and contract language are complex, even for attorneys and experts. Authors may be tempted to sign the first version of a publication contract that they receive, especially if negotiating seems complicated, intimidating, or risky. But there is a lot at stake for authors in a book deal, and it is well worth the effort to read the contract, understand its contents, and negotiate for favorable terms. To that end, Understanding and Negotiating Book Publication Contracts identifies clauses that frequently appear in publishing contracts, explains in plain language what these terms (and typical variations) mean, and presents strategies for negotiating "author-friendly" versions of these clauses. When authors have more information about copyright and publication options for their works, they are better able to make and keep their works available in the ways they want"--Publisher.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Story Logic by : Therese Budniakiewicz
Download or read book Fundamentals of Story Logic written by Therese Budniakiewicz and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1992 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book may be viewed not only as n post-Proppian, post-Greimassian reconstruction and theoretical advance but also as a neo-Proppian, neo-Greimassian remodelling of story logic leading to an integrated descriptive model which focuses, by design, on narrative semiotics as a branch of descriptive poetics. The investigation and the revision of the actantial model and the narrative schema are made concrete through multiple small narratives from literary fiction, specifically Nathanael West's Miss Lonelyhearts, a parable of Pascal, and a historical chronicle. The modifications which Therese Budniakiewicz proposes are turned, as it were, backward towards a theoretical foundation that is both re-found and re-founded, and what emerges is a methodology of textual analysis the scope of which extends to include hermeneutics and interpretation. At the same time, through the analysis the author makes of the 'contractual and communication events' and the central position she gives to the Sender and Receiver, the book is led to place emphasis on the social and interactional nature of discourse and, thereby, integrating the basics of narrative within the framework of law and society and justice. By putting the theory in perspective while carefully analyzing its premises and by consolidating a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary concepts crucial to narrative, Fundamentals of Story Logic will be welcomed by all students of fiction, narratology, and the classical Greimas.

Book Synopsis The Foundations and Future of Public Law by : Elizabeth Fisher
Download or read book The Foundations and Future of Public Law written by Elizabeth Fisher and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public law in the UK and EU has undergone seismic changes over the last forty years: development and membership of the EU, the Human Rights Act, devolution, the fostering of public law expertise within the judiciary, the globalization of public law, and the increased interaction between the academy, judiciary, barristers, public interest groups, and legislatures have transformed the public law landscape. Commentators spend much time at the frontiers of the subject, responding rapidly to new developments and providing guidance to scholars, legislators, and judges for future directions. In these circumstances, there is rarely a chance to reflect upon the implications of these changes for the fundamentals of public law and how those fundamentals relate to one another. In this collection, leading figures in UK and EU public law address this lacuna. Inspired by the depth, scope, and ambition of the work of Paul Craig, Professor of English Law at Oxford University, the focus of this collection is upon exploring and reflecting upon six fundamentals of public law and the interrelationship between them: legislation, case law, theory, institutions, process, and constitutions.
