Book excerpt: “The Bible tells us clearly that the church is the Body of Christ with many members, and all the members must function (Rom. 12:4-5). However, we must realize that function depends on the growth of life. If there is no life and no growth of life, there is no function. Function comes from growth, and growth is something of life.” In this book Witness Lee touches on the need for all believers to function in life and in coordination as a royal and holy priesthood for the Body of Christ.

But what actually happens in heaven? What are we going to be doing there? Won't it get boring at some point? According to Scripture, a large part of our experience of heaven will be a continual revealing of God's glory. Not just his glory in the moment, but during all of time. The mysteries of providence, the hidden movements of God throughout history, and the forgotten and unnoted works of even the most obscure of God's people will be unveiled so that we can see how wise, loving, gracious, and powerful our God is. And though we will experience perfection in heaven, we will never be omniscient, which means we will always be learning more about God's glory, inspiring us to return joyful praise and thanksgiving. If your vision of heaven has been limited to clouds and harps and angels, it's time to expand that view with the truth found in this biblically based look at the afterlife.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Using Biblical characters, great historical men of faith, and contemporary real-life people, David opens the heart and soul of Christians spiritually endowed with the Motivational Gift of Mercy. Beginning with Scripture, David defines and demonstrates the Gift of Mercy as it plays out in real life Christianity. Gleaning from the personal lives of past and present saints, David details how the believer with this Gift can be characterized, identified, motivated, and used in the Church of Jesus Christ today. David believes that for the body of Christ to function successfully each member must recognize his divine purpose and function for the health and growth of the body, and carry out his intended objectives and responsibilities in the power of the Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This best-selling Spiritual Gifts Pamphlet explains the spiritual gifts in the Bible and includes a Spiritual Gifts Quiz to help people know their gifts. This Spiritual Gifts booklet explains each of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and what they mean. When you became a Christian, the Holy Spirit gave you spiritual gifts to build up fellow believers, both in your own church and worldwide. This pamphlet defines spiritual gifts, and describes the differences between the biblical gifts. The Spiritual Gifts Test helps you identify your spiritual gifts, and explains how to use your gifts to benefit others. Each gift of the Spirit is vital and none is more important than others. No matter what your giftedness is, you play an important role in strengthening the church. Did You Know? 63% of Christians Don't Know Their Spiritual GiftsA recent Barna study showed that nearly two-thirds of Christians don't know their spiritual gift(s), don't think they have a gift at all, or claim to have a gift that is not actually biblical. Most Christians know something about Spiritual Gifts, but many don't realize how important they are. Believers are given Spiritual Gifts to contribute to the growth of the church. Spiritual Gifts are important because Scripture says that the church needs all of the gifts working together to help build the Body of Christ. Every believer counts! This pamphlet includes a Spiritual Gifts Questionnaire to determine which gift(s) you might have. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to Christians to help build the life and ministry of the Church. Yet, a large number of Christians do not use or even recognize their spiritual gift. Rose Publishing's Spiritual Gifts pamphlet will help you learn how important Spiritual Gifts are and how to develop the gift(s) the Holy Spirit has given you. Topics in the Spiritual Gifts pamphlet include — • A self-test "Spiritual Gifts Questionnaire" to determine which gift or gifts you may have. • Description of each gift and how to develop it more as you minister to other believers. Use for • Individual study • Discipleship • Small Group or Sunday School class • Christian School • Homeschoolers • New Believers' class • Church library Study Questions for Personal Use or Small Groups: • Read pages 2-4: Based on page 2, what are the purposes of the gifts? These days many churches have paid staff; so why would the God give each believer a gift for the church? Why are these gifts important to all believers? • See page 3: Some gifts are very dramatic and visible and others are quiet and don't attract much attention. What is the main purpose of these gifts? Why do people need to be involved with other Christians, rather than becoming isolated? Scripture says we must appreciate each person's gift even if it is not very showy. How might you recognize the gifts that other believers have? • See page 4 and the 8 biblical ways that Holy Spirit works in our lives: The Holy Spirit is actively at work in the church with the purpose of glorifying Christ and helping the body of Christ (believers in the church) become more mature. Look at the list: Pick two ways the Holy Spirit acts and why they are important to the church. What would happen if these did not happen? How might you help carry out these priorities in your church? • Read all of page 5 and then go back to the first paragraph. If the Holy Spirit provides the life to the body, how do the members "keep it moving"? Later in the Spiritual Gifts pamphlet, each gift will be described, but based on these four lists of spiritual gifts from Scripture, why do you think such a wide variety of gifts is given to the church? Pick any two gifts and tell how (in your opinion) they fit into the Holy Spirit's priorities on page 4. • Read page 6-7: Christians in every type of church agree on what the spiritual gifts are, but not all Christians agree on precisely how and when they are to be used. Look at Paul's warning at the bottom of page 6 (taken from 2 Corinthians 12:12-26) about not being arrogant but showing concern for each member of the body (each person) so that the church isn't divided. How can we show concern and respect and avoid hard feelings today? • Read pages 8-10 describing each gift. Pick two gifts and read the Bible verses that go with it. Questions: How does this gift build up other believers? Give two examples of ways it ministers to the church. Is there a way this gift might be misused? • Answer the questions on the Spiritual Gifts Questionnaire on pages 11-13. Which gift(s) do you think you might have and why? How could you use this gift to minister to others in your church? Are there any ministries in your church you could help? Why Buy? • Easy to read. Explains the Bible visually. • Attractive. Full-color, packed with fascinating charts and illustrations. • Easy to understand. Uses concise and simple language. • Fast. This glossy attractive booklet can take less than 20 minutes to read. • Durable. Spiritual Gifts glossy coating helps it last. • Convenient. By laying out the most comprehensive model of APEST to date--one that incorporates deep theology as well as innovative practice--Hirsch once again demonstrates his almost uncanny capacity to change not only the conversation itself, but also the scorecard on how we understand calling, church, leadership, and organization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My prayer is that this information brings unification to the body of Christ that's never been seen before now. I pray for a fresh coming together as a living organism, an army that we are called to be for God's glory. This is an application plan for the aligning of the Gifts of God properly, to function in them correctly, to use them timely as the Spirit leads. This message is a doorway to the next phase of the kingdom of God at work on earth as it is in heaven. We, the body, must go to the next level of operation to win the next territory that is ours. Just as the children of Israel had to stop going in cycles of old routines and leave the desert of irrelevant tradition to take the promised land by faith in God's word. So must we move on to love and unite, fighting as one body with a common enemy. We must go on past the fundamentals, moving on to the next phases to know and experience a deeper love of God to share it (Ephesians 3:17-19). The body of Christ must be one functioning as the salt of the world (Hebrews 5:11-6:3). The education system, for example, exposes the basic alphabet and numbers then there is a graduation from kindergarten, instead of year after year going over the same basics never building on that first exposure (wandering in a desert). The next phases to learning how to read, write, and count must be incorporated at some point in an education to have some type of progression. There has to be change and a constant exposure to new knowledge. The graduation of the twelfth grade should be after learning and knowing how to apply the basics in several different ways. So the Gifts of God are given to accomplish the will of God on the earth. Jesus is our example and he operated under them, functioned in and used them. We, as his body, now on earth are called to greater works (John 14:12). The greater works can be accomplished united in love and power from the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).

Book excerpt: The Bible teaches us that we are to be filled with God's Spirit and that God's presence and grace is manifested among his people as they serve, love, and minister to one another. Yet some of the gifts that God offers to his people aren't commonly seen in many churches today. Gifts of prophecy, healing, tongues, and other supernatural gifts of God seem to be absent, and many Christians are unsure how to cultivate an atmosphere where God's Spirit can work while remaining committed to the foundational truth of God's Word. How can Christians pursue and implement the miraculous gifts of the Spirit without falling into fanatical excess and splitting the church in the process? In Practicing the Power, pastor and author Sam Storms offers practical steps to understanding and exercising spiritual gifts in a way that remains grounded in the word and centered in the gospel. With examples drawn from his forty years of ministry as a pastor and teachers, Storms offers a guidebook that can help pastors, elders, and church members understand what changes are needed to see God move in supernatural power and to guard against excess and abuse of the spiritual gifts. If you long to see God's Spirit move in your church and life, and aren't sure why that isn't happening or where to begin, this book is for you.

Book excerpt: In Gift and Giver, leading New Testament scholar Craig Keener takes a probing look at the various evangelical understandings of the role of the Holy Spirit in the church. He explores topics such as spiritual gifts, the fruit of the Spirit, the Spirit's power for evangelism, and hearing God's voice. His desire is for Christians to "work for consensus, or at least for unity in God's work despite our differences on secondary matters." Employing a helpful narrative approach and an ample number of stories, Keener enters into constructive dialogue with Pentecostals, moderates, and cessationists, all the while attempting to learn from each viewpoint. He seeks to bridge the gap between cessationists and Pentecostals/charismatics by urging all Christians to seek the Holy Spirit's empowerment. His irenic approach to this controversial issue has been endorsed by charismatics and non-charismatics alike. Sure to provoke helpful dialogue on a topic that has caused unfortunate divisions within the church, Gift and Giver will be a valuable addition to college and seminary courses on pneumatology. It will also be helpful to lay readers interested in a balanced discussion of spiritual gifts. This repackaged edition includes an updated preface and a substantive new afterword.

Book excerpt: Guided by the Holy Spirit, Dr. D. has completed an exceptional book that compares functions in the human body and the Spiritual Body (the Church). She points out that God's creation is diverse; yet we see patterns of order and consistency in design, function, and purpose. Two of God's masterpieces--the human body and the Spiritual Body--also reflect these patterns of order and consistency in operation and purpose. Functioning in the healthy human body serves as a model for effectual functioning in the Spiritual Body. Similar to blood and air in the human body, the life of the Spiritual Body requires active engagement with the Blood of Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit. And just as diverse parts in the human body are designed to fit and work together in systems, diverse parts in the Spiritual Body are gifted by the Holy Spirit to fit and work together in systems to accomplish God's agenda. Effectual functioning in the Spiritual Body requires the use of all gifts as God intended. Knowing this, the devil uses confusion and attacks to restrict, divide, or destroy Body parts, thus slowing the growth and limiting the effectiveness of the Spiritual Body. In Gifted to Fit, Dr. D. applies many years of study and insights to show us how clarity about functioning in the Spiritual Body can be life-changing for the reader. Spiritual knowledge and insights diminish confusion and produce growth and love for the Lord and His Body. For a spiritual part, knowing and understanding one's gift/gift-mix, responsibility, and fit in the Body increases the ability to be an effective, unrestricted fruit bearer for the Lord through the Holy Spirit. With increased clarity comes increased responsibility for performance; therefore, she challenges every spiritual part to know the Holy Spirit and to exercise his or her gifts faithfully and fearlessly in the appropriate gift system(s) to benefit others and fulfil God's eternal purposes for the Spiritual Body, which is the Body of Christ.
