Book excerpt: Winner of The National Best Book 2009 Awards(in Health:Psychology/Mental Health category) sponsored by USA Book News.Fulfillment Using Real Conscience is a groundbreaking work of insight, inspiration and practical guidance for psychological and spiritual fulfillment. With originality and depth, the author distinguishes between our two inner guides--the real conscience which uses reason and the Golden rule, and the socially programmed "superego" which tends to deviate more or less from conscience. Conscience is our best guide as we make choices in handling our needs like power, pleasure, esteem and meaning. Superego or feelings connected with needs can mislead us and cause numerous problems ranging from abuses, addictions, break ups and break downs and many diseases and disorders to extremism and violence. This book is easy to read and provides a good perspective on fulfilling our needs using conscience and keeping feelings and superego in balance. This unique work is particularly timely to promote peace and well-being in individuals, couples, communities and countries, as we face widespread conflicts, deep crises, and wonderful opportunities for transformation. Book excerpt: What Can You Get from The Cycle of Fulfillment? The Cycle of Fulfillment offers a unique perspective on what real success is. The authors suggest that one should focus on achieving mental and emotional fulfillment as a primary goal in life. However, the authors suggest that going after "mental and emotional fulfillment" is the primary goal, but ensuring that achieving four other goals in life will supplement one's primary goal. You will learn how these five goals ( mental and emotional fulfillment, physical health, excellent relationships, excellence in business and career, and financial wealth) are inter-related. And how they ultimately strengthen one's ability to have mental and emotional well-being, thus completing the Cycle of Fulfillment. The book is packed with wisdom from other authors. There are exercises and advice that will show you a blueprint of getting to a state of mental and emotional fulfillment and let go of the negative emotions in life. Rizwan Shuja and Dr. Imran Khawaja are the authors of the Cycle of Fulfillment. This non-fiction self-help book offers a fresh perspective on how to achieve "real success." This book is about what success is? Our goal and passion are to make a difference in people's lives by creating an awareness that mental/ emotional fulfillment is the real success in life. If we can control our negative emotions like hate, jealousy, anger, resentment, etc., it will help us improve our other goals like health/fitness, relationships with people and God, our focus and productivity, and career and finances. Cultivating positive emotions will raise our consciousness level from ego consciousness to spiritual consciousness. When people move towards spiritual consciousness as an individual or as a nation, our values, morals, and ethics improve.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disrupting, questioning and altering the taken-for-granted ‘cosmos’ of everyday life, the experiences of illness challenge the different ways in which social normalcy is remembered, maintained and expected. This book explores the manifold experiences of life threatening, infectious or non-curable illnesses that trouble the practices and relations of human and social life. Challenging a mere deficit-model of illness, it examines how the cosmopolitics of illness require and initiate an ethos that cares for difference and diversity. Eventful Bodies presents rich qualitative and ethnographic data alongside print and on-line media sources from Germany and North America, exploring case studies involving Alzheimer's disease, stroke and the global threat of infectious diseases such as SARS. The book engages with debates in cosmopolitics and exposes the agency of those overlooked by contemporary discourses of cosmopolitanism, thus developing a new theory of illness and delineating a novel empirical agenda and conceptual space for sociological and anthropological research. A rigorous examination of the changes wrought in the social world by illness and the implications of this for social and political theory, Eventful Bodies will appeal to sociologists, anthropologists, social and political theorists, geographers and scholars of science and technology studies, with interests in medical sociology, health, illness and the body.

Book excerpt: By examining Samuel Taylor Coleridge's and John Henry Newman's parallel approaches to the central question of Christian apologetics - the existence of God - Coleridge and Newman: The Centrality of Conscience documents more fully than ever before the extent of Coleridge's influence on Newman. Both men sought to develop an argument for God's existence by understanding conscience as the moral self-awareness that makes us human. The study provides fresh readings of three texts by Colerdige and three by Newman. The result of these comparative readings is a rhetoric that both informs and invites the reader to personal reflection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christ-Centered Consciousness is the work of a spiritually awakened gay man who was healed from a satanic possession by Jesus Christ through extraordinary spiritual phenomena. The core of his spiritual bondage was in a lack of acceptance of his sexuality and of his deepest core self. The healing of this self has led him to many spiritual discoveries, including an ability to discern the presence of Christ in his own consciousness. The goal of this book is to enable the reader to build a connection to God in their own consciousness and to discern the ways in which the enemy tries to block progress. Christ is truly the ultimate in healing and joy, and learning how to discern his presence and follow his lead in one’s own life is the doorway to happiness in this life, and eternal joy in the next.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conscience, once a core concept for ethics, has mostly disappeared from modern moral theory. In this book Douglas Langston traces its intellectual history to account for its neglect while arguing for its still vital importance, if correctly understood. In medieval times, Langston shows in Part I, the notions of "conscientia" and "synderesis" from which our contemporary concept of conscience derives were closely connected to Greek ideas about the virtues and practical reason, although in Christianized form. As modified by Luther, Butler, and Kant, however, conscience later came to be regarded as a faculty like will and intellect, and when faculty psychology fell into disrepute, so did the role of conscience in moral philosophy. A view of mature conscience that sees it as relational, with cognitive, emotional, and conative dimensions, can survive the criticisms of conscience as faculty. In Part II, through discussions of Freud, Ryle, and other modern thinkers, Langston proceeds to reconstruct conscience as a viable philosophical concept. Finally, in Part III, this better grounded concept is connected with the modern revival of virtue ethics, and Langston shows how crucial conscience is to a theory of virtue because it is fundamental to the training of any morally good person.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humankind evolved through three psychological stages - subconscience, conscience, and supraconscience. Ritual and myth, cosmology and theism marked phases of psychic integration, initiating our supraconscience evolution. Four archetypes: temperance, 'the great chain of being,' Biblical interpretation, and Divinity became the Cosmic consciousness of secular man. Study of Scripture developed a communal supraconscience. Mystics' dedication showed us the deeper meaning of a life purpose. Yet, heretics taught man faith in the superior power of the free mind. Heresy helped evolve humanity's secular supraconscience. Indeed, the exponential growth of psyche's powers and the continuous revelation of new, secular knowledge seems the fulfillment of Revelation. Finally, the enlightened understood that when God created the earth, he included evolution so that our kind would evolve a superior nature. Hence, religious and scientific, secular and humanistic developments reveal themselves to be the primary powers accelerating human evolution. Together, they have nurtured humankind's ever-evolving supraconscience.
