Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matthew’s Gospel makes mention of prophets and prophecy more than any other canonical Gospel. Yet its perspective on prophecy has generally been neglected within biblical scholarship when, in fact, Jesus’ prophetic vocation is a central christological theme for Matthew. This new study by Matthew Anslow seeks to draw attention to this underdeveloped focus within Matthean studies. The central claim of the book is that in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus’ prophetic vocation is presented as a multi-faceted phenomenon, drawing on several prophetic traditions. Like biblical and popular prophets before him, Jesus is depicted by Matthew as calling Israel back to covenantal faithfulness, thereby providing guidance for the identity, theology, and communal life of God’s people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LOVE…Fulfilling of the Law By: Evangelist Adekunle Emmanuel Oke LOVE…Fulfilling of the Law is an expository study on practical love. The book teaches what love is, the qualities and characteristics of love. It enables us to understand the love of God to man, love of man to God and love among men in their communities and their societies. “Love is the first and the greatest Law. Jesus said unto him, thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matt. 22:37-40). Love works no ill to his neighbors: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law (Romans 13:10). The above passages and many others are the mind of God in love; also this book. Love is very important for a heavenly minded Christian! Heaven is the greatest inheritance of a Christian. Every heavenly minded and focused Christian is advised to have a copy of this book. James 2:20: “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without work is dead also. One cannot make heaven by force or by self-conviction; it all depends on your works through grace, no work-done without love. Hence heaven cannot be real without love.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume Father Meier explores how Matthew remodeled the form, the Christological message, and the moral demand of the gospel. Part I shows Matthew's church in crisis. It was experiencing a shift in its Christian existence: from a narrow Jewish-Christian past to a universal Gentile future. To preserve yet reinterpret the particularistic traditions of that Jewish-Christian past, Matthew drew up a model of salvation history and then reshaped the gospel message to fit it. Part II offers a mini-commentary on the whole gospel to illustrate this reshaping of the message. Pericope by pericope, Matthew presents Jesus as Son of God and Son of Man, and therefore as 'the' definitive teacher of his Church. Indeed, the nexus between Christ and his Church emerges as the outstanding characteristic of Matthew's gospel. Part III studies Matthew's construction of a unified moral vision on the basis of this connection between Christ and Church. The basic stance of Jesus and his disciples towards the Mosaic Law is one of fulfillment - a 'prophetic' fulfillment which involves at times a deepening of, at times the abrogation of, the letter of the Law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many who feel that Leviticus is a dry, dull, and boring book. That is not so. The gospel is the life, the teachings, and the cross of Jesus, the Son of God. The only way that a person in this present age can have the forgiveness of sin and peace with God is through the gospel of Jesus the Son of God. The gospel is not dull and boring. It is the most read, the most cherished, the most translated, and the most published literature in the entire world. However, the Law of Moses, and the Levitical sacrifices that were part of that law, was the gospel of the Israelites. It was through the Law of Moses and the Levitical sacrifices that a person who lived before Christ could have the forgiveness of sin and peace with God, and therefore it cannot be dull and boring. This book is intended to make the book of Leviticus a living book and a very interesting Bible study. It will open up the Levitical letter and make it interesting by making it easy to understand. The book itself is easy to read and understand. It is written in a way that is quite reasonablein other words, it just makes sense. The purpose of this book is to give a portrayal of the Levitical sacrificial system, what the sacrifices meant to the worshipper who offered them, their purpose, what they accomplished, how God viewed them, and how they were fulfilled in Christ. That is all accomplished by very careful scriptural references that establish the points that are made in the book. When a person understands why there were so many different sacrifices such as the burnt offering, the meal offering, the peace offering, the guilt offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering, and othersand then he sees that each one of those sacrifices served a different purpose and they were all fulfilled in Christ is different ways, Leviticus becomes a book that you just cannot put down.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The household was the basic unit of the early church; it also constituted the basic unit of political economy until the Industrial Revolution. This richly detailed work uses the notion of house as a unifying theme, establishing the identity and concerns of the early Christian churches. What emphases did Matthew's gospel have for that audience - which Crosby establishes was urban-based and prosperous - and what does it mean to First World Christians today? Through an in-depth exploration of Matthew's gospel and its socioeconomic milieu, 'House of Disciples' shows how the world of the early church continues to challenge Christians nineteen hundred years later. It makes a unique contribution to both New Testament scholarship and the practice of a contemporary spirituality.

Book excerpt: This book describes the journey God has created for us and why this journey is necessary. Some will understand the journey, while others of us will twist and distort it for our own purposes, lying even to ourselves. Those lying to us want us to believe there are so many laws created by God and man that we cannot possibly keep them all. The implication is it is okay to break some of them, even God’s laws, since everyone lies, cheats, steals, envies, or worse, now and again. So today, we are tearing this veil of selfishness and lies to reveal the truth that God has only one law. God’s only law is His law of love, “And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.” (2 Jn. 5:5). He said this is the commandment we have had from the beginning, and we do not need other laws if we would just live the fruit of the Spirit, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Gal. 5:22–23). This is God describing what His law of love looks like. And He tells us, all the law and the prophets are fulfilled in one word, love, “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Gal. 5:14), “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matt. 7:12), “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” (Rom. 13:8).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Jesus Christ goes much deeper than His crucifixion and resurrection. Few will dispute that a man named Jesus Christ lived 2,000 years ago and that He was a great teacher who impacted the world. Christ made a controversial claim—that He was the very Son of God, the long-prophesied Messiah—causing religious authorities in Jerusalem to reject Him, hate Him and eventually succeeded in having Him put to death. Likewise, the local Roman civil authorities also saw Him as a threat and became complicit in His execution. The religions of His day, both Judaism and paganism, opposed the growth of His teachings and used unlawful and violent means to try to destroy the Church He founded. The government of Rome also came to vigorously persecute the followers of this Jewish teacher from Galilee. Today, there is much confusion and questions concerning this controversial figure. Where can you go for the answers? The Bible. This Bible Study aid booklet, "Jesus Christ: The Real Story" will help explain what is written in the Bible about Jesus Christ. You can discover the answers to these questions and more: Who was Jesus Christ of Nazareth? Where did He come from? When was Jesus Christ born? What did Jesus teach? Was He God in the flesh? Jesus was revealing His identity as the actual One whom the Jews knew as God in the Old Testament." "The New Testament writers cite messianic prophecies from the Old Testament more than 130 times. By some estimates the Old Testament contains 300 prophetic passages that describe who the Messiah is and what He will do. Of these, 60 are major prophecies. What are the chances of these prophecies being fulfilled in one person?" "A careful analysis of Scripture, however, clearly indicates that December 25 is an unlikely date for Christ’s birth. Here are two primary reasons..." "How can we fit “three days and three nights” between a Friday-afternoon crucifixion and a Sunday-morning resurrection?"

Book excerpt: Exegesis from the year 2017 in the subject Theology - Biblical Theology, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: God gave the people of Israel many commandments and laws. What they did with the commandments and laws determined their righteousness before God. However, by its very nature, the law was given to show how impossible it is for us to fulfil. Of all the commandments however, one was universally acclaimed as the greatest of all. This book seeks to point to the reader that it is not possible to fulfill the Great Commandment all on our own. It is when we receive Jesus Christ that we receive the ability to love God with all our hearts and souls. It is Jesus Christ who sheds the love of God in our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book helps Christian voters and politicians think through two perennial questions. Are we required to apply the judicial laws of the Old Testament to our present-day political contexts? And if we are required to obey these laws, how shall we do so? Against the historic Protestant consensus that posits Christians as bound to advocate and apply only the moral principles underlying these laws, Christian Reconstructionists have recently argued that obedience to and promotion of all divinely unamended Mosaic civil laws remains the Christian's new covenant duty. After testing the most thorough statement of the Reconstructionist view--as presented by the late Greg Bahnsen in his Theonomy in Christian Ethics--against Scripture and the Westminster Confession, How Firm a Foundation? demonstrates that the Reconstructionist ethical perspective is unbiblical, unconfessional, and ultimately unhelpful, while the historic Protestant position expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith remains the biblical and useful perspective Christians need to guide contemporary uses of the Mosaic judicial laws.
