Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth volume in this book series consists of a collection of new papers written by a diverse group of international scholars. Papers and presentations were carefully selected from 160 papers submitted to the International Conference on Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence held in Montreal, Quebec (May 2018) and an associated free public lecture entitled 'Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition: Trendy Technologies in Our Modern Digital World'. Chapters address topics such as the evolution of AI, natural language processing, off and on-line handwriting analysis, tracking and detection systems, neural networks, rating video games, computer-aided diagnosis, and digital learning.Within an increasingly digital world, 'artificial intelligence' is becoming a household term and a topic of great interest to many people worldwide. Pattern recognition, in using key features to classify data, has a strong relationship with artificial intelligence. This book not only complements other monographs in the series, it also provides the latest information. It is geared to promote interest and understanding about pattern recognition and artificial intelligence to the general public. It may also be of interest to graduate students and researchers in the field. Rather than focusing on one specific area, the book introduces readers to various basic concepts and to various potential areas where pattern recognition and artificial intelligence can be applied to make valuable contributions to other fields such as medicine, teaching and learning, forensic science, surveillance, online reviews, computer vision and object tracking.

It encloses subdisciplines like discriminant analysis, feature extraction, error estimation, cluster analysis (together sometimes called statistical pattern recognition), grammatical inference and parsing (sometimes called syntactical pattern recognition). Important application areas are image analysis, character recognition, speech analysis, man and machine diagnostics, person identification and industrial inspection. This book presents leading-edge research from around the world.
Book Synopsis Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning by : Christopher M. Bishop
Download or read book Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning written by Christopher M. Bishop and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first textbook on pattern recognition to present the Bayesian viewpoint. The book presents approximate inference algorithms that permit fast approximate answers in situations where exact answers are not feasible. It uses graphical models to describe probability distributions when no other books apply graphical models to machine learning. No previous knowledge of pattern recognition or machine learning concepts is assumed. Familiarity with multivariate calculus and basic linear algebra is required, and some experience in the use of probabilities would be helpful though not essential as the book includes a self-contained introduction to basic probability theory.

Book Synopsis Pattern Recognition Theory and Applications by : Pierre A. Devijver
Download or read book Pattern Recognition Theory and Applications written by Pierre A. Devijver and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the outcome of a NATO Advanced Study Institute on Pattern Recog nition Theory and Applications held in Spa-Balmoral, Belgium, in June 1986. This Institute was the third of a series which started in 1975 in Bandol, France, at the initia tive of Professors K. S. Fu and A. Whinston, and continued in 1981 in Oxford, UK, with Professors K. S. Fu, J. Kittler and L. -F. Pau as directors. As early as in 1981, plans were made to pursue the series in about 1986 and possibly in Belgium, with Professor K. S. Fu and the present editors as directors. Unfortunately, Ie sort en decida autrement: Professor Fu passed away in the spring of 1985. His sudden death was an irreparable loss to the scientific community and to all those who knew him as an inspiring colleague, a teacher or a dear friend. Soon after, Josef Kittler and I decided to pay a small tribute to his memory by helping some of his plans to materialize. With the support of the NATO Scientific Affairs Division, the Institute became a reality. It was therefore but natural that the proceedings of the Institute be dedicated to him. The book contains most of the papers that were presented at the Institute. Papers are grouped along major themes which hopefully represent the major areas of contem porary research. These are: 1. Statistical methods and clustering techniques 2. Probabilistic relaxation techniques 3. From Markovian to connectionist models 4.

Book Synopsis Thinning Methodologies for Pattern Recognition by : Ching Y. Suen
Download or read book Thinning Methodologies for Pattern Recognition written by Ching Y. Suen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinning is a technique widely used in the pre-processing stage of a pattern recognition system to compress data and to enhance feature extraction in the subsequent stage. It reduces a digitized pattern to a skeleton so that all resulting branches are 1 pixel thick. The method seems easy at first and has many advantages, however after two decades of intensive research, it has been found to be very challenging due to the difficulties in programming computers to do it.This collection of 15 papers by leading scientists working in the area examines the theoretical and experimental aspects of thinning methodologies. The authors have addressed the problems faced, compared their performance results with others, and assessed the challenges ahead. Researchers will find the volume helpful in shedding light on difficult issues and stimulating further research in the area.
