Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an accumulation of poetry from the age of 15 to 51. It is my ups and downs, my highs and lows, my happiness and sadness. There were many years nothing was written. It is hard for me to write when there is nothing to say and still write it well. At 23, I was in a horrifying car accident, in which I almost lost my daughter and myself. I had to grow up again and learn again. It was a painstaking process. Thirteen years later, I came down with bacterial spinal meningitis. The terrifying pain in my brain made me want to die, and although I asked God to take me, I finally realized that He had a different road for me to take. Now I want to be and do the best I can, no matter the road Im on. I write because I love to write. I write because there is a story to tell that maybe someone may learn from, that maybe a situation can be changed for the better, that all is not lost, at least not forever, and the days will get brighter, for with motivation and perspiration, we can move mountains. That God is always with us, that He carries us in his arms, watches us grow, and wants us to mature into loving people, for with love there is everything.

Book excerpt: This book was written by me, Maurice C. Wright, as a way of sharing some of the many memories, tidbits, and other recollections that have been in my mind for many years. Through this book, I am passing these on to family, friends, and others that may be interested in reading these stories. Each memory, tidbit, and other recollection has been written to stand alone or to be read as an entire book. Therefore, the reader will find a repeat of information in multiple stories as that information is pertinent to each. Praise be to God for the many memories, tidbits, and other recollections that I am sharing through this book and for the many other stories that are still in my mind and have not been reduced to written form.

Book excerpt: I have felt for many years that there have perhaps never been a 75 to 100 years that have seen so much progress and change, both for good and bad. Life has always been mixed with both good times and bad times, and so it will until the Lord returns. But this type of good and bad is not what I am writing about. In the horse and buggy era and early years of the car, there were a lot of hard times: poverty, sickness, and epidemics, but by and large, the moral fiber of most people was much better than now. There are many things to blame, but the sad part of this is that I believe the Christians are the most to blame for not getting involved. The scapegoat idea: it's all in the Lord's hands, we don't have to worry or do anything. In the meantime, much has happened because of the ACLU, our court system, the pressure of the entertainment world and the Democratic party, and too many Republicans voting wrong. It is already illegal for the kids to pray in school or even take their Bible to school. They are trying to get "In God We Trust" off our money and take for God and Country out of the Pledge of Allegiance However, I feel there is a trend now of thinking seriously about God and morals and hard work, and there will have to be if this world is going to last. So I am dedicating this to my nine children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and anyone who reads it that it will help them see what a change has taken place in the 1900's and that it might help them on the road of life, plus hopefully bring some enjoyment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ten volumes of "Handbook of Pragmatics Highlights" focus on the most salient topics in the field of pragmatics, thus dividing its wide interdisciplinary spectrum in a transparent and manageable way. While other volumes select philosophical, cognitive, cultural, social, variational, interactional, or discursive points of view, this fifth volume looks at the field of linguistic pragmatics from a primarily grammatical angle. That is, it asks in which particular sense a variety of older and more recent functional (rather than generative) models of grammar relate to the study of language in use: how this affects their general outlook on language structure, whether issues of language use inform the very makeup of these models or are merely included as possible research themes, and how far the actual integration of pragmatics ultimately goes (is it a module/layer or is the model truly usage-based ?). Each of the authors presenting these models has taken systematic care to highlight the relevant problems and focus on the implications of considering pragmatic phenomena from the point of view of grammar. Furthermore, a limited number of chapters deal with traditional topics in the grammatical literature, and specifically those which are called pragmatic because they either are not strictly concerned with truth (semantics), or receive their (truth) value only from an interaction with context. In the introduction, these theories and topics are set up against the historical background of a gradually changing attitude, on the part of grammarians, towards questions of linguistic knowledge and behavior, and the role of learning in their relationship."

Book excerpt: Innovation Dynamics and Policy in the Energy Sector discusses the process and future of global innovation in the energy sector based on the innovation leadership example of Texas. The book proposes that the positive dynamics of Texas energy sector innovations arises from a confluence of factors, including supportive institutions, the management of technological change, competitive markets, astute public policy, intraindustrial collaboration, a cultural focus on change and risk-taking, and natural resource abundance. Heavily case-study focused chapters review the fundamental drivers of innovation, from key discoveries at Spindletop; the proliferation of oil production through major field development; through electric sector deregulation; and recent innovation in hydraulic fracking, renewable integration, and carbon capture. The work closes to argue that sustainable global innovation addressing the twin challenges of climate change and the energy transition must be driven by the promotion of competition and risk-taking which continually promotes the development of ideas, a process jointly funded by the public and private sectors and supported by collaborative and competitive institutions. Reviews the fundamental drivers of energy innovation and examines each driver through 10 key episodes in the Texas energy innovation experience, inclusive of guidance to the international research community based on their example. Establishes the critical impact of constructive energy policy, energy technology, and power markets in cultural settings that invite change and risk-taking and proposes them as key factors in building sustainable innovation. Consolidates current research and practice related to innovation from the perspectives of established (economics and engineering) and emergent (innovation economics and econometrics) disciplines.

Book excerpt: This volume presents a variety of papers bearing on the relation between deontic logics, logics of action, and normative systems, i.e. systems of or about interacting agents (computers, human beings, corporations, etc.) whose behaviour is subject to ideal constraints that may not always be fulfilled in practice. The papers range from theoretical studies of the logical and conceptual tools needed, to studies of various applications. The set of papers collected in this book should be of interest to investigators working in a variety of fields, from philosophy, logic and legal theory to artificial intelligence, computer and management sciences, since it covers topics ranging from theoretical research on foundational issues in deontic and action logics, defeasible reasoning, decision theory, ethical theory, and legal theory, to research on a variety of issues relevant to applications connected with expert systems in the law, document specification, automation of defeasible reasoning, specification of responsibilities and powers in organizations, normative systems specification, confidentiality in database systems, and a host of other applications.

Book excerpt: JOHN BIBLE COMMENTARY After nearly 40 years of full-time ministry, Brother Swaggart published his first commentary on the book of Genesis that was later described as “the most helpful Bible commentary ever published.” It would take nearly 20 years to complete the entire commentary series—from Genesis to Revelation. True to Pentecostal theology, the Jimmy Swaggart Commentary collection leads its readers chapter by chapter to a better understanding of the Bible. Rather than providing notes on every Bible verse, these commentaries focus on the salient verses of each chapter to offer the reader a condensed synopsis of what the Holy Spirit intended. Where most relevant, cultural and historical references are also included, along with explanations of the allegories, types, and symbolisms used in the Bible to add depth and dimension for students of the Holy Scriptures. Yet, what seems to separate this work from all other commentaries are the biblical applications made to present day circumstances facing every believer. Printed on high-quality paper and bound with a beautiful hardback cover, this unique reference will be cherished by anyone who loves to study the Word of God.
