Book Synopsis From Plowboy to Flyboy by : Larry Prose
Download or read book From Plowboy to Flyboy written by Larry Prose and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-29 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Larry Prose still remembers that day in the summer of 1952 on the farm he worked on in Southeast Lane County, Kansas. His father had just purchased a Minneapolis Moline tractor, and the author could finally operate the “Minnie” because it had a hand clutch. At nine years old and seventy-five pounds, he could not operate the Allis Chalmers tractor they previously used because it had a foot clutch. Father and son were in the field when they both sensed a tremendous rumble. A shadow flashed overhead, and they saw a huge aircraft. It was a B-36, probably on a low-level training mission, and for a moment, the author thought it was going to crash. The six large "forty-three-sixty engines" churned the propellers with the addition of four jet engines. From where and how? Suddenly, the author felt stymied by the whole idea of “you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy". It dawned on him that there was more world to see and explore. This is his story of eighty years From Plowboy to Fly Boy.

While local business owners support the pipeline, Hawley’s presence riles the landowners, and Mercy is torn. After ugly threats and multiple altercations escalate tensions in the county, Mercy discovers Hawley’s brutally mutilated body in the bar parking lot. When it appears Sheriff Dawson cares more about campaigning for reelection than investigating the case, Mercy vows to find Jason Hawley’s killer—even if she has to run against Dawson for sheriff to ensure justice is served. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A fascinating look at how consumers perceive logos, ads, commercials, brands, and products.”—Time How much do we know about why we buy? What truly influences our decisions in today’s message-cluttered world? In Buyology, Martin Lindstrom presents the astonishing findings from his groundbreaking three-year, seven-million-dollar neuromarketing study—a cutting-edge experiment that peered inside the brains of 2,000 volunteers from all around the world as they encountered various ads, logos, commercials, brands, and products. His startling results shatter much of what we have long believed about what captures our interest—and drives us to buy. Among the questions he explores: • Does sex actually sell? • Does subliminal advertising still surround us? • Can “cool” brands trigger our mating instincts? • Can our other senses—smell, touch, and sound—be aroused when we see a product? Buyology is a fascinating and shocking journey into the mind of today's consumer that will captivate anyone who's been seduced—or turned off—by marketers' relentless attempts to win our loyalty, our money, and our minds.

Book Synopsis Wrestlecrap: The Very Worst of Professional Wrestling (Large Print 16pt) by : Randy Baer
Download or read book Wrestlecrap: The Very Worst of Professional Wrestling (Large Print 16pt) written by Randy Baer and published by ReadHowYouWant. This book was released on 2012-12-27 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "WrestleCrap: The Very Worst of Professional Wrestling" examines some of the ridiculously horrible characters and storylines that pro wrestling promoters have subjected their fans to over the past twenty years. Why would any sane person think that having two grown men fight over a turkey was actually a reasonable idea? Was George Ringo, the Wrestling Beatle, really the best gimmick that a major promotional organization could come up with? And who would charge fans to watch a wrestler named the Gobbeldy Gooker emerge from an egg? In an attempt to answer such questions and figure out just what the promoters were thinking, authors Randy Baer and R.D. Reynolds go beyond what wrestling fans saw on the screen and delve into the mindset of those in the production booth. In some instances, the motivations driving the spectacle prove even more laughable than what was actually seen in the ring. Covering such entertainment catastrophes as an evil one - eyed midget and a wrestler from the mystical land of Oz, not to mention the utterly comprehensible Turkey - on - a - Pole match (a gimmick which AWA fans might recall), "WrestleCrap" is hysterically merciless in its evaluation of such organizations as the WCW and the WWF. This retrospective look at the wrestling world's misguided attempts to attract viewers will leave wrestling fans and critics alike in stitches.
Book Synopsis The House on East Canal Road by : Neerja Raman
Download or read book The House on East Canal Road written by Neerja Raman and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born into poverty, Kishan Chand Das marries his childhood sweetheart and builds a fortune, but in 1905, when India is firmly in the grip of the Raj, he abandons it all to fight British rule. His young family’s survival is threatened. Willful Leela—his teenage daughter-in-law—and errant son Ishaan, gather the pieces but when the aged patriarch dies from beatings inflicted at a peaceful protest, the family is once again torn apart. Journalist son Adrith leaves home to rouse the nascent Calcutta underground with fiery speeches and joins a revolutionary army. Fearless, outspoken, convent-educated Anita becomes the third generation Chand to continue the freedom fight, but she falls in love with the enemy—handsome Sergeant Ludlow. Can she, her family, and India, survive the hastily drawn line on a map far away, that cleaved houses, loved ones, and neighbors alike—the price of independence? “An evocative, well-imagined portrayal of late-colonial India through one family’s eyes.” — Kirkus Reviews “Raman has an eye for historical detail, like Kishan’s assessment of a train car (“clean symmetrical lines, padded leather seats, side panels adorned with windows...the coach, designed and built by the American Car & Foundry Company...”), and a solid grasp of the real history that shapes the lives of the fictional characters. The writing is strong...the thoughtful exploration of the experience of colonialism makes the story a rewarding read...” — Kirkus Reviews
