Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: n France this small work by the Reverend Father Bernadot O. P.: treating of the relation between Holy Communion and the indwelling of the Blessed Trinity in the soul, has had a large circulation. We may hope in consequence that it has effected considerable good, by making its readers realize more fully and deeply one of the most consoling and helpful doctrines of our Faith, e.g., the indwelling not only of the Holy Ghost, but of the Three Persons of the Blessed Trinity in the souls of all those in a state of sanctifying grace. This great fact is realized by comparatively few lay Catholics, and, may we not also say, insufficiently inculcated from our pulpits? All the saints have insisted that progress in holiness depends on a growing realization of the Divine Presence. "All sins are committed," says St. Teresa, "because we do not think of God as really present, but imagine Him as very far off." St. Francis of Sales rernarks: "Most of the failures of good people in the discharge of their duty come to pass because they do not keep themselves sufficiently in the Presence of God." This Presence of God we should try and realize, is not only that of His creative and conserving action, which is common to all being, but the indwelling of the Blessed Trinity in the souls of each of us provided we are free from mortal sin. This mode of God's Presence is frequently referred to by St. John in both his gospel and first epistle, and in the epistles of St. Paul; in fact to read St. Paul keeping this fact in view seems to reveal his epistles in a new light. What each of us should try and do is to cultivate by frequent acts of our will the realization of this indwelling presence of the Blessed Trinity, as the Carmelite Sister Elizabeth of the Trinity wrote: "To attain to the ideal life of the soul we must live in the supernatural, realizing that God is in our inmost being; then nothing is commonplace, not even the most ordinary actions, for one does not live in thenl but above them." Thus we may hope to arrive at that "familiaritas stupenda nimis " -" wonderful companionship" of which the author of the Imitation speaks. (Book II, Ch. I.)

Book excerpt: The following dissertation concerning the Trinity, as the reader ought to be informed, has been written in order to guard against the sophistries of those who disdain to begin with faith, and are deceived by a crude and perverse love of reason. Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter. Book excerpt: The Divine Dance has become a classic for fans of Richard Rohr and an important book on Christian mysticism, it provides a fresh perspective for anyone studying or teaching the trinity. The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity, but it is still widely considered a mystery we won't ever fully understand. Should we still try to understand it, even so? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God? In this stimulating and thought-provoking book, internationally recognised teacher Richard Rohr explores the nature of God and the paradoxical idea of the Holy Trinity as both three and one. With clear, surefooted wisdom, he encourages us to build on the early Christian understanding of the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit as a flow and dance - a Divine Dance - that we are invited to join in. An engaging, accessible look at the nature of God, The Divine Dance will challenge the way you think about the Trinity and give you a much fuller understanding of the triune relationship that is at the heart of Christian doctrine. It will leave you with a faith that is renewed and strengthened, and show you how you can engage more deeply in your relationship with God and the world through the Trinity.

Book excerpt: Inspired by the ressourcement theology of Henri de Lubac, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Pope Benedict XVI, LIFE IN THE TRINITY is a modest attempt to advance a neo-patristic synthesis crucial to the renewal of the Catholic Faith in our times. Drawing on the early Church Fathers, as well as the personalism of Pope John Paul II, LIFE IN THE TRINITY presents Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as the source, goal, and archetype of human love, and the wellspring of liturgical worship. It furnishes us with a Catholic vision of communion and deification, inspiring hope for the 21st century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Why be concerned with the Trinity? What does it mean to say, "I believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?" In this accessible work Leonardo Boff takes up the ancient doctrine of the Trinity showing its meaning and relevance for Christian faith today." "In a series of short chapters Boff unpacks the mysteries of the Trinity, spelling out the difference it makes to believe that God is communion rather than solitude. Instead of an image of God as solitary ruler standing aloof above a static universe, belief in the Trinity means that at the root of everything there is movement, there is an eternal process of life, of outward movement, and love." "While comprehensive in his treatment of the theological and anthropological dimensions of the Trinity, Boff is especially interested in the social implications. In the Trinity we find a program of liberation to the infinite degree: "difference and distinction, equality and perfect communion." The Holy Trinity is, among other things, the image of the perfect community. At the same time, in the Trinity we find the best image of the church: not a hierarchy of power, but a community of diverse gifts and functions. Thus comprehension of the Trinity, in which God comes out to meet us in the full realization of our yearnings, empowers our efforts for a better world and a more faithful church. The word catechism means "instruction" - this book will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity was meant by Jesus to be a living experience of being in the Trinitarian community--of being loved infinitely by the Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, through his Holy Spirit. In the earliest centuries of Christianity, theologians--especially in the East--thought, taught, and believed mystically about the Indwelling Trinity that lived with and transformed Christians into divinized children of God. The East still offers a rich model of participating in God's presence and experiencing the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit. Fr. Maloney approaches this mystery of the Trinity as a dynamic movement of God toward us through His two hands, in the words of St. Irenaeus, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. By drawing insights from Holy Scriptures, the Eastern Fathers, and mystics of all ages, Abiding in the Indwelling Trinity offers an intriguing vision of God as invading Love. +
