Fünfmal bereits habe ich als Arzt den Tod gerufen und hoffte, der gestrige Tag sei der letzte gewesen – ich hab es vergebnes gehofft. Wo auf Erden gibt es einen Himmel von immerwährender Heiterkeit, meinen Himmel? Leb wohl mein Freund“ (B 6,128; 18. September 1881, zitiert in Safranski 239f.) Nietzsche erfährt in den Monaten darauf den bereits angesprochenen Veränderungswechsel in der physischen und psychischen Verfassungslage. Als er im Juli 1881 die „Morgenröthe“ in Sils-Maria beendete, hat er in der Folgezeit das erste große Inspirationserlebnis, dass ihm den Gedanken der ewigen Wiederkehr bringt, den er in der „Fröhlichen Wissenschaft“ ebneo zur Thematik macht, wie den Tod Gottes, das Problem des Nihilismus, die Rolle der Wahrheit und den Willen zur Wahrheit im menschlichen Leben. Des weiteren beschäftigte sich Nietzsche in diesem aphoristischen Werk mit der Frage nach der richtigen Einstellung in Bezug auf Leiden, Vollendung und Erreichen und kritisiert Wissenschaft und Philosophie. Nietzsche benutzt in diesem Buch ausschließlich Aphorismen, durch die er eine innere Einheit herstellen kann. Somit verkündet Nietzsche, dass durch Aphorismen „die lange Logik einer ganz bestimmten philosophischen Sensibilität“ und nicht „ein Durcheinander von hundert beliebigen Parodoxien und Heterodoxien“ erreicht wird (Löwith 120, in Safranski 241). Er unterteilt die „Fröhliche Wissenschaft“ in fünf Bücher, von denen das letzte erst 1887 für die Neuauflage geschrieben wurde und bei dem sich Nietzsche vermehrt mit dem „Willen zur Macht“ auseinandersetzt: „Jetzt ergötze und erhole ich mich an der kältesten Vernunft-Kritik, bei der man unwillkürlich blaue Finger bekommt (...)

Archbishop J Augustine Di Noia of the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith then treats the recent developments in the teaching of the Magisterium regarding theology of religions. Anna Bonta Moreland adresses the issue of Muhammad and Christian Prophecy. Diego R Sarrió Cucarella focuses on early Christian theological views of Islam and concludes that Islam has been from the begining a ”disturbing” factor in the Christian view of salvation history. Wilhelmus G B M Valkenberg discusses the impact of Nostra Aetate on the Church’s relation to Muslims, using especially the precedent of Nicolaus of Cues as regards a constructive approach to Islam. Klaus von Stosch adresses a sensitive issue in Muslim-Christian relations and illustrates the advantages of the comparative theology approach for the theology of religions. Complementing this perspective, Peter Jonkers offers a hermeneutical perspective on truth claims, and reflects on ”the religious Other” with references to Jacques Derrida among others. Reinhold Bernhardt argues in favour of a biblically grounded “relational-existential” theory of truth, which would be most helpful with regard to other religions. To conclude, the prominent Catholic specialist on Theology of Religions, Gavin D’Costa, widened the perspective by addressing the relation to Judaism from the point of view of the covenant and the promises of the land. Altogether, the papers of this volume give a clear impression of the status of Roman Catholic Theology of Religions.

Book excerpt: To mark the 200th anniversary of Schiller’s death, leading scholars from Germany, Canada, the UK and the USA have contributed to this volume of commemorative essays. These were first presented at a symposium held at the University of Birmingham in June 2005. The essays collected here shed important new light on Schiller’s standing as a national and transnational figure , both in his own lifetime and in the two hundred years since his death. Issues explored include: aspects of Schiller’s life and work which contributed to the creation of heroic and nationalist myths of the poet during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; his activities as man of the theatre and publisher in his own, pre-national context; the (trans-)national dimensions of Schiller’s poetic and dramatic achievement in their contemporary context and with reference to later appropriations of national(ist) elements in his work. The contributions to this volume illuminate Schiller’s achievements as poet, playwright, thinker and historian, and bring acute insights to bear on both the history of his impact in a variety of contexts and his enduring importance as a point of cultural reference.
