This book was released on 2019-03-30 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Petty Trader Driven by Purpose: A biography of Mofopefoluwa Joseph, FRM, narrates an inspiring life of a focused and spirit-filled business man that built his petty trading from nothing to what now becomes a formidable business entity. The book encapsulates Mofopefoluwa’s humble beginning as a man that surrenders his life to the commandment and direction of God, even before he became a Christian. The biography narrates how Mofopefoluwa listens to the voice of God concerning his education, marriage, conversion, total change of name, and line of business he engaged in. The narration in the book, that of Mofopefoluwa’s six decades on earth, should inspire not only the younger generations but also the older ones because it gives a vivid account of how God himself used Mofopefoluwa’s life to add values to the lives of numerous human beings through his philanthropic service to humanity. The book will surely encourage prospective business-minded individuals who are desirous of building a career from trading to forge ahead with divine focus while they have little or no working capital because Mofopefoluwa’s petty trading that metamorphoses to a multimillion business spanning selling of weighing scales and virtual stamps to real estate commenced without a working capital. Hence, there are many prospective millionaire petty traders out there that Mofepefoluwa’s purpose-driven life will inspire to fulfill their destinies.

Book Synopsis Topography of Trauma: Fissures, Disruptions and Transfigurations by :
Download or read book Topography of Trauma: Fissures, Disruptions and Transfigurations written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-08-26 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses trauma not only from a theoretical, descriptive and therapeutic perspective, but also through the survivor as narrator, meaning maker, and presenter. By conceptualising different outlooks on trauma, exploring transfigurations in writing and art, and engaging trauma through scriptotherapy, dharma art, autoethnography, photovoice and choreography, the interdisciplinary dialogue highlights the need for rethinking and re-examining trauma, as classical treatments geared towards healing do not recognise the potential for transfiguration inherent in the trauma itself. The investigation of the fissures, disruptions and shifts after punctual traumatic events or prolonged exposure to verbal and physical abuse, illness, war, captivity, incarceration, and chemical exposure, amongst others, leads to a new understanding of the transformed self and empowering post-traumatic developments. Contributors are Peter Bray, Francesca Brencio, Mark Callaghan, M. Candace Christensen, Diedra L. Clay, Leanne Dodd, Marie France Forcier, Gen’ichiro Itakura, Jacqueline Linder, Elwin Susan John, Kori D. Novak, Cassie Pedersen, Danielle Schaub, Nicholas Quin Serenati, Aslı Tekinay, Tony M. InUnderstanding Prisons he uses his impressive expertise to guide researchersthrough the changing world of the English prison. The result is an accessible,up-to-date, and highly informative book that will be welcomed by studentsand practitioners alike.” David Garland, NYU, author of The Culture of Control “Andrew Coyle has drawn on his lifelong experience of governing prisons inScotland and England and, as the former Director of the International Centrefor Prison Studies, Kings College, London, studying prisons worldwide. Hehas written a comprehensive account of the use of imprisonment and thecharacter of prisons. He persuasively argues that our continued, extensiveuse of imprisonment cannot simply be explained or justified by the incidenceof crime and could otherwise. His book merits close attention.” Rod Morgan, Chairman, Youth Justice Board There are over nine million men, women and children in prison around the world, and the number of people in prison in England and Wales has increased significantly in recent years. Yet in many respects prison remains the last secretive public institution in our society. Understanding Prisons provides a unique, in-depth examination of prisons – how they function, what they achieve, and their historical and political context. The book: Describes how prisons developed into their present form Looks at who is sent to prison and what happens to them while they are there Explains how the prison system and staff in England and Wales are organised Examines how order and control is maintained and how high security prisons operate Looks at prisoners’ families and the wider community Offers a future vision of the prison system This is essential reading for criminology and sociology students and researchers, criminal justice practitioners, the media and members of the public who are interested in learning more about the closed world of the prison.

Book Synopsis Beyond Christianity by : Darnise C. Martin
Download or read book Beyond Christianity written by Darnise C. Martin and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2005-03-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Christianity draws on rich ethnographic work in a Religious Science church in Oakland, California, to illuminate the ways a group of African Americans has adapted a religion typically thought of as white to fit their needs and circumstances. This predominantly African American congregation is an anomalous phenomenon for both Religious Science and African American religious studies. It stands at the intersection of New Thought doctrine, characterized by personal empowerment teachings, and a culturally familiar liturgical style reminiscent of Black Pentecostals and Black Spiritualists. This group challenges oversimplified concepts of the Black church experience and broadens the concept of Black religion outside the boundaries of Christianity—raising questions about what it means to be an African American congregation, and about the nature of blackness itself. Beyond Christianity adds a new dimension to the scholarship on Black religion.
