You said you wanted to be a lawyer, a teacher, a nurse, or a judge? You used to make people laugh because you had your shit down. You were appreciated. You had drive because you knew no matter what, you could conquer the world. Do you remember that? Really? Honestly? I don't. This is a funny book about the not so amusing emotional challenges of being a stay-at-home mom - the feeling of insecurity about not bringing home a paycheck, the lack of professional accomplishment, the loneliness, the boredom, and of course, the sex.

Book Synopsis Divine Providence by : Bruce R. Reichenbach
Download or read book Divine Providence written by Bruce R. Reichenbach and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-09-08 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We ask God to involve himself providentially in our lives, yet we cherish our freedom to choose and act. Employing both theological reflection and philosophical analysis, the author explores how to resolve the interesting and provocative puzzles arising from these seemingly conflicting desires. He inquires what sovereignty means and how sovereigns balance their power and prerogatives with the free responses of their subjects. Since we are physically embodied in a physical world, we also need to ask how this is compatible with our being free agents. Providence raises questions about God's fundamental attributes. The author considers what it means to affirm God's goodness as logically contingent, how being almighty interfaces with God's self-limitation, and the persistent problems that arise from claiming that God foreknows the future. Discussion of these divine properties spills over into the related issues of why God allows, or even causes, pain and suffering; why, if God is all-knowing, we need to petition God repeatedly and encounter so many unanswered prayers; and how miracles, as ways God acts in the world, are possible and knowable. Throughout, the author looks at Scripture and attends to how providence deepens our understanding of God and enriches our lives.
Book Synopsis A Life for Freedom by : Denis Goldberg
Download or read book A Life for Freedom written by Denis Goldberg and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2016-03-18 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fascinating memoir, the anti-apartheid activist recounts his lifelong fight for emancipation and the years he endured in a South African prison. From June 1963 to October 1964, ten antiapartheid activists were tried at South Africa's Pretoria Supreme Court. Standing among the accused were Nelson Mandela, Ahmed Kathrada, Walter Sisulu, was Denis Goldberg. Charged under the Sabotage and Suppression of Communism Acts for “campaigning to overthrow the government by violent revolution,” Goldberg was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The only white man convicted during the infamous Rivonia trial, he played a historic role in the struggle for justice in South Africa. Goldberg grew up acutely aware of the injustice permeating his homeland. He joined the South African Communist Party and helped found the Congress of Democrats. But it was his role as an officer in the armed underground wing of the African National Congress that led to his life sentence—which left him behind bars for twenty-two years. While in prison, the dogma of apartheid imposed complete separation from his black comrades, a segregation that denied him both the companionship and the counsel of his fellow accused. Recounted with humor and humility, Goldberg's story provides a sweeping overview of life in South Africa during and after apartheid. It also illuminates the experiences of the activists and oppressors whose fates were bound together.
