Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the investigation is to study the free vibrations of a spherical shell segment with rigidly clamped boundary, and to compute the response of such a shell segment to realistic loading resulting from a blast wave. The study is limited to cases for which the material stays linearly elastic, and strains and rotations remain small. Two methods of analysis are developed for the free vibrations of the spherical shell segments.

This book was released on 1952 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented which permits the determination of the frequencies of vibrations of infinitely long thin cylindrical shells in an acoustic medium. Expressions are obtained for the displacements of the shell and for the pressures in the medium in the case of forced vibrations due to sinusoidally distributed radial forces. The results indicate that there is a low-frequency range, where no radiation takes place, and a high-frequency range where the external force provides energy which is radiated. Resonance occurs in the low-frequency range only; in the high-frequency range it is prevented by the damping due to radiation. Free and forced vibrations of steel shells submerged in water are discussed; with limitations, the theory may be applied approximately to stiffened shells. The method requires only a minor modification to account for the effect of static pressure in the surrounding medium. The treatment of transient problems is also considered. If high-frequency terms occur in the force, or shock effects are wanted within a short time after the application of the force, a treatment using solely modes of vibration of the submerged structure would be incomplete, as additional terms occur in the solution. As an alternative approach, the modes of free vibration of the structure may be used as generalized coordinates which fully describe the response of the structure but leave the medium to be treated, by means of the differential equations for the potential or in any other way desired.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An indispensable reference work for engineers, mathematicians, and physicists, this book is the most complete and authoritative treatment of classical elasticity in a single volume. Beginning with elementary notions of extension, simple shear and homogeneous strain, the analysis rapidly undertakes a development of types of strain, displacements corresponding to a given strain, cubical dilatation, composition of strains and a general theory of strains. A detailed analysis of stress including the stress quadric and uniformly varying stress leads into an exposition of the elasticity of solid bodies. Based upon the work-energy concept, experimental results are examined and the significance of elastic constants in general theory considered. Hooke's Law, elastic constants, methods of determining stress, thermo-elastic equations, and other topics are carefully discussed. --Back cover.

Book Synopsis A Theory of Latticed Plates and Shells by : G. I. Pshenichnov
Download or read book A Theory of Latticed Plates and Shells written by G. I. Pshenichnov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the theory of latticed shells as continual systems and describes its applications. It analyses the problems of statics, stability and dynamics. Generally, a classical rod deformation theory is applied. However, in some instances, more precise theories which particularly consider geometrical and physical nonlinearity are employed. A new effective method for solving general boundary value problems and its application for numerical and analytical solutions of mathematical physics and reticulated shell theory problems is described. A new method of solving the shell theory's nonlinear problems, substantially simplifying the existing algorithms is given. Questions of optimum design are discussed. Some of the findings are generalized and extended to edged and composite systems. The results of the solutions of a wide range of pressing problems are presented.
