Sie ist eine Form der Gewalt, die im geschützten Rahmen, in den eigenen vier Wänden ausgeübt oder angedroht wird. In Deutschland erlebt etwa jede dritte Frau mindestens einmal in ihrem Leben Häusliche Gewalt. Dabei ist die Gewalt darauf ausgerichtet, Kontrolle und Macht über die andere Person zu erlangen. Diese Erfahrungen können schwerwiegende und irreversible negative Auswirkungen auf das Leben Betroffener haben. Da in 80% der Fälle Frauen die Betroffenen darstellen, sieht die Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) Häusliche Gewalt als eines der größten Gesundheitsrisiken für Frauen an. Opfer von Gewalt, unabhängig davon, ob es sich um Kinder, Frauen oder Männer handelt, benötigen besonderen Schutz. Selbst Gewaltschutzeinrichtungen für Frauen oder Beratungseinrichtungen für Lesben beschäftigen sich kaum mit dieser Problematik. Und auch in der Forschung zeigt sich das selbe Bild. Die Zahl an Studien und Literatur zu diesem Thema ist durchaus überschaubar. Mein persönliches Interesse an dieser Thematik entstand während meiner Arbeit im Frauenhaus. Ich musste mich zwangsläufig mit dem Thema Gewalt in Partnerschaften sowie den damit verbundenen Erklärungsmodellen und Dynamiken auseinandersetzen. Angestoßen durch eine lesbische Klientin und Offenbarungen von Beziehungsgewalt unter Frauen in meinem privaten Umfeld, stellte sich mir die Frage nach der Prävalenz von Gewalt in lesbischen Beziehungen sowie adäquaten Hilfesystemen für von Gewalt bedrohten oder betroffenen lesbischen Frauen. Des Weiteren fiel mir auf, dass Erklärungsmodelle und Gewaltdynamiken, die angewendet auf heterosexuelle Beziehungen durchaus logisch und sinnvoll sind, auf lesbische Gewaltbeziehungen nicht oder nur in Teilen angewendet werden können. So entstanden die Leitfragen zu der vorliegenden Arbeit. Wie ist die Prävalenz von Gewalt in lesbischen Beziehungen? Welche Hilfesysteme gibt es in solchen Fällen und warum werden anerkannte Opferschutzeinrichtungen nicht höher frequentiert? Welche Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten gibt es zwischen Gewalt von Männern und Gewalt von Frauen gegen ihre Partnerin? Und müssen Fachkräfte speziell geschult sein, um bei lesbischen Gewaltopfern wie auch -täterinnen qualitativ gute Arbeit leisten zu können? In der Realität beginnt mit diesen Worten die Gewalt in der Partnerschaft oder Ehe. Häusliche Gewalt gegen Frauen und Kinder ist nichts Ungewöhnliches. Sie passiert täglich und überall. Das besondere an diesem Thema ist, dass es lange Zeit ein Tabuthema darstellte. Die Gewalt galt als familiäres Problem, das nicht in die Öffentlichkeit gehörte. Seit den 60er und 70er Jahren konnte die Häusliche Gewalt aus dem Schatten treten. Heutzutage wird die häusliche Gewalt öffentlich thematisiert, um den Menschen die Augen zu öffnen. Diese Gewalt ist nicht legal und verstößt gegen die Menschenrechte. Die häusliche Gewalt unterscheidet sich von anderer Gewalt, durch die emotionale Bindung zwischen Täter und Opfer. Die Frauen leben mit ihren Tätern zusammen. Sie sind mit ihm eine Ehe oder Partnerschaft eingegangen. Kinder werden überwiegend durch ihre Eltern zum Opfer. Dabei muss man berücksichtigen, dass in diesen Fällen nicht nur Männer zu Tätern werden. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass die Gewalt gegen Kinder immer mehr zunimmt. Ständig kann man in den Zeitungen lesen, dass Babys von ihren Müttern gleich nach der Geburt getötet worden sind. Kleinkinder werden über Jahre eingesperrt, verhungern und verdursten in der elterlichen Wohnung. Ein aktuelles Beispiel hierzu ist die fünfjährige Lea- Marie aus Teterow, die über Jahre von ihrer Mutter misshandelt wurde. Die Mutter hat ihre Tochter im Alter von einem Jahr und drei Monaten in die Badewanne gesetzt und absichtlich mit heißem Wasser verbrüht. Sie spekulierte auf eine Versicherungsprämie in Höhe von 1000 €. Die Versicherung glaubte der Mutter, dass die Tochter einen heißen Topf mit Wasser vom Herd gezogen hätte und bekam 854 € gezahlt. Des Weiteren hat die Hausfrau in 27 Fällen ihrer Tochter Essig und Kalklöser in immer höheren Dosen verabreicht. Der Vater soll das Kind festgehalten haben, während die Mutter die Flüssigkeit brutal in das kleine Mädchen hineingeschüttet hat. Die Eltern sagten bei der Gerichtsverhandlung im Februar dieses Jahres aus, dass Lea- Marie ein anstrengendes Kind sei. Der Richter vermutete, dass das Mädchen verletzt und ins Krankenhaus gebracht wurde, damit die Eltern einige Tage „Ruhe“ hatten. Ein psychiatrisches Gutachten zeigte, dass das Mädchen völlig unauffällig sei. Es blieb offen, aus welchem Grund die Eltern ihre Tochter so schwer misshandelt haben.

A third common theme of the papers is an expansion of research efforts to groups other than victims of family violence and abuse, as there are chapters that examine the individual and social characteristics of male perpetrators of both wife abuse and child abuse as well as chapters that focus on the attitudes and behaviors of professional groups concerned with the treatment of victims of family violence and abuse. The volume shows great methodological diversity and attention to theoretical detail; the research presented reveals the possibility of a more comprehensive social science approach to the study of family violence and abuse. In work related to theory building, one chapter explains a number of findings in the child abuse and neglect literature using propositions derived from evolutionary biology; another paper distills propositions from several theoretical traditions. In conjunction with these efforts, several chapters report research designed to test competing propositions. Chapter references and research data are provided.
