Nestled in the hills on the western side of Jerusalem is a museum called Yad Vashem. There, people from around the world visit daily to learn about the tragic period of history from 1933 to 1945 known as the Holocaust. The museum serves as an education, research, and historical center in remembrance of the six million Jews across Europe who were murdered at the hands of the Nazi Party machine led by Adolf Hitler. A special section of Yad Vashem is dedicated to those who carried out acts of courage to save the lives of Jews during the Holocaust. Remembered there is a couple from Dieden of the Netherlands, Frans and Mien Wijnakker. Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust is the remarkable tale of how Frans and his wife, Mien, saved the lives of at least two dozen Jews in southern Holland during World War II. They were Catholics who led a simple life in a small town, but they took risks and displayed bravery to help others in dire need, instilling hope during one of the most horrific points of history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He took out his pistol from its holster and without warning shot Sean twice in the stomach. Sean could feel his life draining out of him. Zamatev walked towards Sean. He took another drink from the bottle. When it was empty, he threw it into the dense bush. ‘This one is for blowing up my base Sergeant,’ he said and shot Sean again. Sean didn’t feel the bullet; his whole body was so numb that it didn’t signal any pain in his brain. ‘You see Sergeant, I know that it was you and your pig brother who was responsible for demolishing my base, only now I’m the one who is doing the demolishing.’ Zamatev got so carried away that he kept on squeezing the trigger. Mercifully Sean was dead before the clip was empty.
Book Synopsis The Righteous Few by : Marty Brounstein
Download or read book The Righteous Few written by Marty Brounstein and published by Square One Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-04-21 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Righteous Few is a remarkable true tale of courage, compassion, and rescue during the Holocaust. It is the story of a young married Christian couple, Frans and Mien Wijnakker, living in the Netherlands during World War II. When their country was under Nazi German occupation, they were firsthand witnesses to the horrific acts of violence inflicted upon thousands of innocent people, especially Jews. Refusing to sit back and do nothing, they chose to put their own lives at great risk by hiding their Jewish neighbors. By the end of the war, they had managed to save more than two dozen countrymen from certain death. Their heroism later earned them a special recognition of “Righteous Among the Nations” by Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. Frans and Mien were Catholics who led a simple life in the countryside of southeastern Holland. They had four small children of their own. But a simple yes in response to a call for help during a business trip to Amsterdam profoundly changed Frans’ and his wife’s lives. In a two-year period, they took many Jewish refugees into their own home and organized a rescue network that placed refugees in other people’s homes, as well. As their rescue work increased, so did the many risks and dangers associated with it. They faced one of their most difficult challenges when they took in a young pregnant Jewish woman and her husband. How do you help someone who has to give birth in hiding? Through this and many other stories, The Righteous Few draws a vivid picture of two extraordinary people who shined the light of hope during one of history’s darkest periods.

Book Synopsis Louvre Museum - Paintings by : Nicolae Sfetcu
Download or read book Louvre Museum - Paintings written by Nicolae Sfetcu and published by Nicolae Sfetcu. This book was released on with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Louvre Museum is the largest of the world's art museums by its exhibition surface. These represent the Western art of the Middle Ages in 1848, those of the ancient civilizations that preceded and influenced it (Oriental, Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman), and the arts of early Christians and Islam. At the origin of the Louvre existed a castle, built by King Philip Augustus in 1190, and occupying the southwest quarter of the current Cour Carrée. In 1594, Henri IV decided to unite the palace of the Louvre with the palace of the Tuileries built by Catherine de Medicis. The Cour Carrée was built by the architects Lemercier and then Le Vau, under the reign of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. The Department of Paintings currently has about 7,500 paintings (of which 3,400 are exposed), covering a period that goes from the Middle Ages to 1848 (date of the beginning of the Second Republic). By including the deposits, the collection is, with 12,660 works, the largest collection of ancient paintings in the world. With rare exceptions, the works after 1848 were transferred to the Musée d'Orsay when it was created in 1986.

The symptoms and signs of his mental illness are evident throughout the book, but they do not detract from a reader's comprehension and enjoyment of the storyline as it develops. The descriptions of his experiences are generally quite lucid, educational, and entertaining. He offers little-known information relating to the field of precious metal prospecting, and he includes interesting world historical information that bears on his narrative.
