Book Synopsis Cities in Global Transition by : Raymond Charles Rauscher
Download or read book Cities in Global Transition written by Raymond Charles Rauscher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the planning of cities in global transition, looking at Australia’s Greater Sydney as a case example. The focus is on metropolitan districts (groups of municipalities) within the Greater Sydney region. The subjects of global transition and sustainable urban planning (SUP) are introduced in Chapter 1. How Greater Sydney approaches planning of its region and its districts is then outlined in Chapter 2. In this chapter, three case study districts are selected for critiquing planning in the face of population and new development changes. The districts, beyond the City of Sydney, are: Sydney Inner West, Greater Parramatta and St George. The book further outlines a methodology to assess planning practices within each of the municipalities (twelve case study municipalities in all within the three districts). Included here are State planning principles applying to Greater Sydney, with key principals selected to apply to the case study municipalities and to each district as a unit.

Book Synopsis Cities Responding to Climate Change by : Stephen Jones
Download or read book Cities Responding to Climate Change written by Stephen Jones and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the climate policy approaches established by various city governments. It details the strategies, plans and initiatives that have so far been designed to both mitigate and adapt to the impacts of global warming. In doing so, it considers the implications of the actions taken by leading cities and its effects on underlying theoretical assumptions relating to policy development and management processes in achieving climate policy outcomes. Cities Responding to Climate Change establishes an analytical framework that critically examines the application of performance management by city governments in their policy responses to climate change. It draws its focus on the city governments of Copenhagen, Stockholm and Tokyo to bring together and discuss the concepts, strategies and practices that have since been introduced to respond to the climate challenges faced. This book highlights the lessons to be learned by other city governments around the world contemplating serious action with climate policies to lessen the impacts of global warming. It will be of particular interest to practitioners and researchers seeking evidence of how governments deliver on their commitments and improve their effectiveness in implementing climate polices.

Based on a survey of almost three thousand pupils, it examines young people's views on their own health, their support needs, where they turn to for advice, and their contacts with school nurses. Interviews with school nursing professionals, provide a 'snapshot' of school nursing services in transition from a medical model to a public health role, outlining provision, priorities and how young people's health needs are being addressed. The challenges in providing an effective service for all young people are highlighted and taking the views and experiences of young users into account will help to meet some of these. The lessons from this research are broadly applicable across the service.

Book Synopsis Ethnicity Housing by : Frederick W. Boal
Download or read book Ethnicity Housing written by Frederick W. Boal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: This work has its origins in the 1995 Congress of the International Federation for Housing and Planning, held in Belfast. The theme was "Accommodating Differences". "Differences" were defined in broad terms, and included ethnic and social, economic and political differences. However, Frederick W. Boal's own interest in ethnic differences motivated him to invite a number of Congress participants to make available their papers for inclusion in this book of essays. It seeks to offer experience that can be drawn on by housing practitioners who are operating in multi-ethnic contexts. It also provides empirical material that should contribute to the development of more soundly-based theoretical insights in both urban sociology and social geography.
