Book Synopsis Fragments of Lichtenberg by : Pierre Senges
Download or read book Fragments of Lichtenberg written by Pierre Senges and published by Deep Vellum Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eighteenth-century German physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg left behind at the time of his death thousands of fragmentary notes commenting on a dazzling and at the same time puzzling array of subjects. Pierre Senges’s Fragments of Lichtenberg imaginatively and hilariously reconstructs the efforts of scholars across three centuries to piece together Lichtenberg’s disparate notes into a coherent philosophical or artistic statement. What emerges instead from their efforts are a wide variety of conflicting and competing Lichtenbergs – the poet, the physicist, the philosopher, the humorist – and a very funny meditation on the way interpretations and speculation create new histories and new realities. In just over half a century, Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742-1799) had the time to be all of the following: a hunchback; a mathematician; a physics professor; a connoisseur of hare pate; a hermit; an electrical theorist; a skirtchaser; a friend of King George III of England; an asthmatic; a defender of reason; a hypochondriac; a dying man; and the author of 8,000 fragments written with ink and goose quills. Traditionally those fragments have been considered no more than aphorisms, to be sipped like fine schnapps, but certain scholars claim, however, that his famous Wastebooks are really the scattered pieces of a Great Novel, and that this might yet be reconstructed, with the help of scissors, glue, and paper, and by using what is left of our imaginations. The present volume retracts, among other things, the work undertaken for more than a century by valiant Lichtenbergians.

Book Synopsis Fragments of the Past by : Jody Kaye
Download or read book Fragments of the Past written by Jody Kaye and published by Jody Kaye. This book was released on 2024-09-13 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Jody Kaye, bestselling author and the creator of the Kingsbrier Quintuplets, comes Fragments of the Past. A one night stand between a small town medium and a hot cop leads to a mistaken identity. Will the truth get in the way of solving a murder in this psychic paranormal romance? —Rae Lee— I sensed that Detective Anson Ames doubted my abilities when he contacted me to help a grieving mother pick up the pieces and find closure surrounding her missing child. Anson’s not the first skeptic I’ve encountered. He isn’t even the first man I’ve taken home from Sweet Caroline’s without being honest about who I really am. Sometimes it’s a relief pretending to be someone I’m not… Someone normal. Now the ghost of a little girl is trying to show me what happened to her, and the drop-dead gorgeous cynic assigned to this cold case is focused on the fact that he woke up alone. A medium might communicate with the dead, but after last night, I don’t know how I’ll get Anson to believe anything I say.

Book Synopsis A Whole, a Fragment by : Kurt H. Wolff
Download or read book A Whole, a Fragment written by Kurt H. Wolff and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2002 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this extended prose poem--a text that reads as much as a work of art as important scholarship--Kurt H. Wolff has created a work of phenomenology that goes far beyond the typical methods of empirical social science to embrace field work as an extraordinary openness to being. Including personal letters to Wolff from Hannah Arendt and Hermann Bloch, the book portrays a fertile mind's reckoning with pre-phenomenal being in a way that dances between the realms of intellectual consideration and the surrender of will to the intoxication of lived experience.
