Book Synopsis Evaluation of Size Effect on the Fatigue Properties of Aluminum Alloys 7075, 7079 and X7080 by :
Download or read book Evaluation of Size Effect on the Fatigue Properties of Aluminum Alloys 7075, 7079 and X7080 written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first phase of an evaluation to determine the size effect on the fatigue properties of 7075-T651, 7079-T651 aluminum alloy stretcher leveled plates and an X7080 aluminum alloy hand forging has been completed. Evaluation of the large section specimens (4 square inches test section) showed that the fatigue strength of the X7080 aluminum alloy hand forging, 40,000 p.s.i. at 1, 000,000 cycles, was approximately 48% and 60% higher than the fatigue strengths of 27,000 p.s.i. and 25,000 p.s.i. for the 7075 and 7079 alloy stretcher leveled plates, respectively. The notched fatigue strength of the X7080 alloy, 14,000 p. s.i. at 1,000,000 cycles, was approximately 17% higher than the notched fatigue strength of 12,000 p.s.i. for the 7075 and 7079 alloys.

Book Synopsis Fracture and Fatigue-Crack Propagation Characteristics of 7075-t7351 Aluminum Alloy Sheet and Plate by : Charles E. Feddersen
Download or read book Fracture and Fatigue-Crack Propagation Characteristics of 7075-t7351 Aluminum Alloy Sheet and Plate written by Charles E. Feddersen and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program was directed to provide information relative to damage tolerance of panels of 7075-T7351 sheet and plate. This implied the generation and analysis of information on flat panels containing centrally located flaws and testing, either under monotonically increasing load or under cyclic loads. The information obtained provided insight into the two major aspects of damage tolerance - residual strength and fatigue-crack propagation - from tests on panels ranging in thickness from 1/16 inch to 1 inch and in width from 8 inches to 36 inches. The program has shown that there are at least two bench marks in crack growth behavior from the monotonically increasing load test: (1) onset of slow growth at which a flaw initially present begins to grow slowly with increasing load, and (2) critical instability at which unstable and rapid crack growth occurs that results in failure. From the data obtained a generalized residual strength analysis was developed which identifies a fracture toughness property for thin and transition thickness materials as well as presents design data and fracture or residual strength predictions for structural applications. The program has also resulted in the identification of an empirical expression that appears to be quite useful in predicting fatigue-crack propagation and the remaining lifetime of a panel containing a fatigue crack. Book Synopsis Plane Strain Fracture Toughness and Fatigue Properties of Thermomechanically Treated 7075 Aluminum Alloy by : Weera Phlawadana
Download or read book Plane Strain Fracture Toughness and Fatigue Properties of Thermomechanically Treated 7075 Aluminum Alloy written by Weera Phlawadana and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A special thermomechanical treatment (TMT) has been recently developed to improve the tensile properties and stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of commercial grade 7075 Al alloy wrought products. In the present work, an extensive investigation into the plane strain fracture toughness and plane bending fatigue properties of the thermomechanically treated 7075 Al alloy sheet and thin plate was conducted. For a comparison, "as received" material 7075-0 Al alloy was also given conventional T6 and T73 treatment and similarly tested in order to supply standard reference toughness and fatigue strength values.
Book Synopsis Properties of a Retrogressed and Re-Aged 7075 Aluminum Alloy by : E. S. Tankins
Download or read book Properties of a Retrogressed and Re-Aged 7075 Aluminum Alloy written by E. S. Tankins and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retrogression and Re-aging (RRA) is a new thermal process introduced for the purpose of enhancing corrosion resistance of 7075-T651 aluminum alloy while maintaining its T6 strength. In this study a 7075 material so treated was investigated for its mechanical and corrosion resistant properties. Results indicated that the RRA treated 7075 was significantly better than the T6 temper in resistance to stress corrosion cracking and exfoliation corrosion. The loss in strength from RRA treatment was minimal. Electron microscopy of the fractured surface showed a distinct difference in the fracture mode when compared to the T6 temper condition. Tests results indicated that the RRA heat treatment resulted in fatigue and fracture toughness properties superior to the 7075-T651. Keywords: SEM fractography, Differential scanning colorimetry, Hardness, Conductivity, Fracture toughness, Fatigue, and Crack propagation.
