Download or read book Biomaterials written by Nesrin Hasirci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-02-23 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomaterials: From Molecules to Engineered Tissue gives examples of the application areas of biomaterials involving molecules at one end of the spectrum and finished devices in the other. It covers molecular approaches as well as molecules functional in preparing and modifying biomaterials, medical devices and systems, tissue engineering and artificial organs. Chapters on biomedical informatics and ethics complement the design and production aspects with their contribution in informatics and ethical concerns of biomedical research. This is a reference book for the advanced graduate student eager to learn the biomaterials area and for all researchers working in medicine, pharmacy, engineering and basic sciences in universities, hospitals, and industry involved in biomaterials and biomedical device production.
Download or read book Bioceramics written by Ö.H. Andersson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary forum for presentation of new work in the field of bioceramics is the annual International Symposium on Ceramics in Medicine. The chapters of this book represent the proceedings of the 7th meeting in this important series, held in Turku, Finland, in July 1994. The conference attracted a multidisciplinary audience from the bioceramics community, including leading academic and industrial scientists, manufacturers and regulators. The volume comprises 69 articles.
Download or read book Bone Cements written by Klaus-Dieter Kühn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is the basic component of bone cements. To use it, a dough is prepared from the liquid and powder by mixing right before application, which is normally done by the operating team. During its working phase the dough is then inserted into the tissue where polymerization is completed. Thus, the final implant polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is only created at the implantation site. Besides methyl methacrylate, bone cements sometimes contain other methacrylates, such as butyl methacrylate. To achieve X-ray opacity, radiopacifiers (zirconium dioxide or barium sulfate) are added to the powder. Both the liquid and powder components contain additives (initiator and activator) that launch polymerization and control the set ting when mixed together. Moreover, softener and emulsifiers are some times used. The addition of antibiotics to the powder component in order to prevent or treat infections has become especially important. Commercial bone cements differ in composition and the course of curing. Some are designed for high and others for low viscosity. The way the user handles and applies the cement always crucially influences the quality of the implant. This is why clear and comprehensive information about the cements should be available to show the user how all the relevant factors work It should also be possible together and how they depend on each other.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Biomaterial Properties by : William Murphy

Book Synopsis Basal Implantology by : Gérard M. Scortecci
Download or read book Basal Implantology written by Gérard M. Scortecci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual will help oral implantologists to understand the principles that underlie the use of basal implants as a means to provide simple solutions to complex and highly demanding clinical situations without the need for prior bone grafting. It will also serve as a richly illustrated practical guide to application of the technique. The book is in three parts, the first of which discusses basic principles and related themes, including osteogenesis, osseointegration, cortical anchorage stability, biomechanics, surgical techniques, and basal implant prosthodontics. Step-by-step guidance is then offered on the application of these principles, focusing on operating techniques, 3D treatment planning, transitional and final screw-secured prostheses, and postoperative follow-up. The third part of the book addresses a wide range of clinical situations that can be treated by basal implantology, with particular attention to the treatment of high, thin alveolar ridges and the atrophic maxilla and mandible and to the correction of previous implant failures, as well as complications and postimplantation neuropathies.
