Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many Christians come to Christ and never get the foundational teachings of Jesus Christ? Too many! And like the foundations of a house, this should happen right at the beginning of the process. Is it any wonder many struggle to stand when their feet are planted on the spiritual sands of rhetoric and emotion! When businesses and governments find things are becoming too complex, what do they say? Usually, they say they need to get "back to basics." The "basics" are the key principles that sit beneath all human endeavors and they must be solidly grounded or else the business, enterprise, and even governments will struggle and fall apart. You cannot build a house unless there is a solid foundation. Likewise, you cannot build a Christian unless the spiritual foundations are strong. How many Christians suffer? How many fall down or fall away? How many struggle with their faith, especially in the early years when their faith is put to the test? Again...too many! And most of them suffer because their foundations are not strong enough to withstand the storms of life. The Six Foundations This book aims to address this lack. First, it identifies what the Bible defines as the six foundations of Jesus Christ, not what some preachers wrongly state. And second, this book provides insights from the Bible on how to use and build on these foundations. The Lord Jesus said to the Apostles that He would give them the "keys to the kingdom of heaven." These six foundations form the basis of those keys. When these foundations are in place and working effectively, a Christian can withstand any storm or opposition that comes against them. Today as we walk with Jesus Christ we need to "get back to basics." These six foundations are the basic teachings all Christians must learn, understand, and hold fast as they walk in this world.

Book excerpt: Every believer needs to establish a sound spiritual FOUNDATION because it sets the groundwork for their entire walk with the LORD. Just as a good foundation is required for a sound building, so a proper spiritual foundation is vital for a victorious Christian life. Those who fail to lay a proper foundation are doomed to spiritual immaturity because they have nothing by which to judge what is right or wrong, scriptural or unscriptural, wise or foolish. Simply put, a healthy biblical understructure eliminates feeble spirituality.Believers who neglect to form a wise foundation can shipwreck their faith altogether, as Paul put it in 1 Timothy 1:19, and find themselves back in the world-in spiritual darkness and separate from God. That's why this book exists. It'll help believers lay a quality understructure so that their faith isn't shipwrecked at some point down the road. The Bible details the six basic doctrines of Christianity in Hebrews 6:1-2 where they are described as "elementary." This means "the initial (starting) point" in the Greek. In other words, these six doctrines come first and are therefore the chief teachings of Christianity. They're "basic" only in the sense that they're foundational and consequently have priority over other doctrines. They are the SIX CHIEF DOCTRINES of Christianity.

Book excerpt: The author of these sermons has had a feeling for a long time that the great need in our churches in this day is systematic indoctrination. He put his theory into practice last winter in his own church, and these sermons are the result. We were having a great many accessions to our church. In the two years of the church's history we had had something like six hundred accessions to the church, and every month considerable numbers of new members were being added. While many of these came by letter from other churches, many of them were new converts and had had practically no systematic instruction in the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, so we announced a series of sermons on The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith. There was immediately a large increase in the attendance at the services where these addresses were given, and this increase has kept up until on the last Lord's Day we had much the largest attendance we have ever had, excepting on Easter Sunday. Many have testified to the blessing received from these sermons, and there has been a great demand that the sermons be printed for general circulation. This request has come from ministers of various denominations, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, and others. It is hoped that this volume will be useful to other pastors in suggesting lines of teaching in their regular pastoral work, and also that it may be used widely by pastors and others for circulation among Christians. We live in a day in which many of our church members are all at sea as to what they believe on the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. These sermons have already helped many through their delivery. It is hoped they will reach and help far more in the printed form.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common misperception about Bible doctrine is that such teaching is boring. Dr. Adams brings to life and interest ten major Bible Doctrines from God's Word. You will not be bored with this compelling book. The first chapter discusses why the question, "Where did God come from," does not fit reality any more than "What does the color blue smell like?" How about the question in Chapter Two which asks, "If Jesus Christ had died on the cross but was never raised from the dead, could we be saved?" Thorough answers are given to provocative questions about God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, Satan, Man, Salvation, the Church, the Bible, and Prophecy. The inclusion of the chapter on Prayer, suggesting that prayer is the Christian's greatest expression of dependency on God, is priceless. It exceeds most doctrinal studies that rarely touch the subject. This book would be incredibly useful to teach in small group Bible studies or in a whole congregational setting. Help your life to be "grounded and settled" in the truth so that you would not be "so soon moved" to another gospel (Colossians 1:23 and Galatians 1:6).

Book excerpt: Then the Laity will become more noble in character as were the Bereans, and with maturity, combine their faith with the Word allowing them to recognize when the leaders teach in ignorance of the Word. (acts 17:11, Heb. 4:2). Our Lord's Beacon: The Elementary Teachings of Christ Jesus digs into the fundamental teachings of the doctrine of Christ Jesus. Many writings about the basics of Christianity have been published but without full knowledge of these six elementary truths, while using the meat of God's Word, full maturity un a Christian's life will never be attained. If we as Christians are stuck in the milk, in God's eyes we are still yet infants since we are not yet acquainted with the teachings of the righteous. Furthermore, solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. One cannot use/digest solid food until one can fully digest the milk, and only if God permits it. (Heb. 5:13-14). Is today's church truly mature? Can today's church possibly be conducting itself and understanding good and evil as an infant, using only the milk of God's Word? Is the world influencing the church more than the church is influencing the world? Can everything in today's church be traced back to The Elementary Teachings of Christ Jesus?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Formation of Christian Doctrine is a high-level academic study of the history of Christian doctrinal development. The book distinguishes at length between the scholarly term “inventio” (making explicit what is implicit in the biblical revelation) and the idea of “invention” (presenting a novelty as Christian teaching that conflicts with the biblical revelation). Specifically, The Formation of Christian Doctrine identifies biblical inerrancy as an inventio but sees the “priesthood of believers” concept as a license to believe “whatever teaching seems right to me.” Sure to be of interest in academic circles, even to those who might disagree with the author, this book will appeal to three major groups: Evangelicals in relation to the twentieth-century development of a detailed doctrine of biblical inerrancy, Baptists in light of both biblical inerrancy and the seventeenth-century development of believer’s baptism, and Roman Catholics because of their respect for tradition and interest in such a challenging conservative Protestant perspective as is found here.

Book excerpt: Reveals the true role of James, the brother of Jesus, in early Christianity • Uses evidence from the canonical Gospels, apocryphal texts, and the writings of the Church Fathers to reveal the teachings of Jesus as transmitted to his chosen successor: James • Demonstrates how the core message in the teachings of Jesus is an expansion not a repudiation of the Jewish religion • Shows how James can serve as a bridge between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam James has been a subject of controversy since the founding of the Church. Evidence that Jesus had siblings contradicts Church dogma on the virgin birth, and James is also a symbol of Christian teachings that have been obscured. While Peter is traditionally thought of as the leader of the apostles and the “rock” on which Jesus built his church, Jeffrey Bütz shows that it was James who led the disciples after the crucifixion. It was James, not Peter, who guided them through the Church's first major theological crisis--Paul's interpretation of the teachings of Jesus. Using the canonical Gospels, writings of the Church Fathers, and apocryphal texts, Bütz argues that James is the most overlooked figure in the history of the Church. He shows how the core teachings of Jesus are firmly rooted in Hebraic tradition; reveals the bitter battles between James and Paul for ideological supremacy in the early Church; and explains how Paul's interpretations, which became the foundation of the Church, are in many ways its betrayal. Bütz reveals a picture of Christianity and the true meaning of Christ's message that are sometimes at odds with established Christian doctrine and concludes that James can serve as a desperately needed missing link between Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to heal the wounds of centuries of enmity.
