Download or read book American Government 3e written by Glen Krutz and published by . This book was released on 2023-05-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black & white print. American Government 3e aligns with the topics and objectives of many government courses. Faculty involved in the project have endeavored to make government workings, issues, debates, and impacts meaningful and memorable to students while maintaining the conceptual coverage and rigor inherent in the subject. With this objective in mind, the content of this textbook has been developed and arranged to provide a logical progression from the fundamental principles of institutional design at the founding, to avenues of political participation, to thorough coverage of the political structures that constitute American government. The book builds upon what students have already learned and emphasizes connections between topics as well as between theory and applications. The goal of each section is to enable students not just to recognize concepts, but to work with them in ways that will be useful in later courses, future careers, and as engaged citizens. In order to help students understand the ways that government, society, and individuals interconnect, the revision includes more examples and details regarding the lived experiences of diverse groups and communities within the United States. The authors and reviewers sought to strike a balance between confronting the negative and harmful elements of American government, history, and current events, while demonstrating progress in overcoming them. In doing so, the approach seeks to provide instructors with ample opportunities to open discussions, extend and update concepts, and drive deeper engagement.
Book Synopsis Discourses on Livy by : Niccolò Machiavelli
Download or read book Discourses on Livy written by Niccolò Machiavelli and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2018-03-25 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Machiavelli saw history in general as a way to learn useful lessons from the past for the present, and also as a type of analysis which could be built upon, as long as each generation did not forget the works of the past. In "Discourses on Livy" Machiavelli discusses what can be learned from roman period and many other eras as well, including the politics of his lifetime. This is a work of political history and philosophy written in the early 16th. The title identifies the work's subject as the first ten books of Livy's Ab urbe condita, which relate the expansion of Rome through the end of the Third Samnite War in 293 BC. Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli (1469 – 1527) was an Italian diplomat, politician, historian, philosopher, humanist, and writer. He has often been called the father of modern political science. He was for many years a senior official in the Florentine Republic, with responsibilities in diplomatic and military affairs. He served as a secretary to the Second Chancery of the Republic of Florence from 1498 to 1512, when the Medici were out of power. He wrote his most well-known work The Prince in 1513, having been exiled from city affairs.
Download or read book The Politics written by Aristotle and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 1981-09-17 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-three centuries after its compilation, 'The Politics' still has much to contribute to this central question of political science. Aristotle's thorough and carefully argued analysis is based on a study of over 150 city constitutions, covering a huge range of political issues in order to establish which types of constitution are best - both ideally and in particular circumstances - and how they may be maintained. Aristotle's opinions form an essential background to the thinking of philosophers such as Thomas Aquinas, Machiavelli and Jean Bodin and both his premises and arguments raise questions that are as relevant to modern society as they were to the ancient world.

Book Synopsis Forms of Government by : Anthony Anamgba
Download or read book Forms of Government written by Anthony Anamgba and published by Anthony Anamgba. This book was released on 2017-03-25 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forms of government are the different systems and structures that are adopted for administering a State. Forms of government are the different ways in which the structures and functions of government are arranged in different States. It is in this lucid manner that this book will teach you forms of government. If power resides in one person whose position is succeeded through inheritance, it is a monarchy. If power resides in a few noble people that promote the common good, it is an aristocracy. If power resides in a few people that promote their self interests, it is an oligarchy. If power resides in the majority of people that have elected representatives that promote the common good, it is a democracy. If power resides in one person that uses power cruelly and without popular consent, it is a dictatorship. If the executive is responsible to the legislature, it is parliamentary. If the executive is not responsible to the legislature, it becomes presidential. If the government is centralized, it is unitary. If the government is decentralized, it is federal. And if the government is loosely decentralized, it becomes confederal. For forms of government, as Alexander Pope said, let fools contest; whatever is best administered is best.
