The landscapes viewed and experienced were not only of the terrain as it presented itself in foreign lands but also of the musical, emotional, and spiritual exposure, which grew and expanded as I developed as an artist and as a person. Having been reared as a Christian provided the foundation that served as a solid underpinning in the world in which I would now have to navigate. Forever changing were the choices and chances I would encounter. Relying on the non-changing grace of God allowed for my ultimate success in managing the many layers of the challenges presented in developing a career and a family, managing what would be gained and what would be lost. Forever Changing Landscapes is a personal view through the lens of my memory over and through the many oceans crossed, the nations visited, as well as the myriad of musical, emotional, and spiritual mountains traversed through the years of my life.

He married Dorothy Stumbaugh and they were blessed with five children that have grown to ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was employed by the Philadelphia School District until retirement and then moved to the Central Coast of California. As a member of the California Chapter of the Second Marine Division Association, he was appointed chaplain. He was appointed National Chaplain of the SMDA in 2003 and remains at that position to this day. The National Chaplain of the SMDA is responsible to work with the Second Marine Division Chaplains in coordinating the Memorial Service at Camp Lejeune, NC each year at the Birthday Celebration of the Division. He is also responsible for coordinating the Memorial Service at each Annual Reunion of the SMDA at geographical locations across the United States. He is obviously responsible for any prayers necessary during the gatherings at each of the annual events, as well as being available to any individual who asks for prayer. During his tenure, he is responsible to present a Memorial Address at each of the two events annually. He has been awarded the Most Distinguished Award for his services. Each chapter in this book is a Memorial Address delivered by Dr. DeMarco to the Marines, families and friends at Camp Lejeune, NC and also to the Association Reunion gathering at various locations across America. All the material in this book deals largely with American history, political science in general and the effects of religious thought of the times.

Book excerpt: In 2005, researchers from four Australian universities and CSIRO joined forces with environmental managers from three state agencies and six regional catchment management authorities to answer the question: 'Can we detect the influence of public environmental programs on the condition of our natural resources?' This was prompted by a series of national audits of Australia's environmental programs that could find no evidence of public investment improving the condition of waterways, soils and native vegetation, despite major public programs investing more than $4.2 billion in environmental repair over the last 20 years. Landscape Logic describes how this collaboration of 42 researchers and environmental managers went about the research. It describes what they found and what they learned about the challenge of attributing cause to environmental change. While public programs had been responsible for increase in vegetation extent, there was less evidence for improvement in vegetation condition and water quality. In many cases critical levels of intervention had not been reached, interventions were not sufficiently mature to have had any measurable impact, monitoring had not been designed to match the spatial and temporal scales of the interventions, and interventions lacked sufficiently clear objectives and metrics to ever be detectable. In the process, however, new knowledge emerged on disturbance thresholds in river condition, diagnosing sources of pollution in river systems, and the application and uptake of state-and-transition and Bayesian network models to environmental management. The findings discussed in this book provide valuable messages for environmental managers, land managers, researchers and policy makers.
