More than half (57-5 per cent) was made into mechanical pulp; more than one third (33 °8 per cent) was manufactured by the sulphite process, and 8 '7 per cent by the soda process. In 1910 the proportions were 68 -8 per cent by the mechanical process, 287 per cent by the sulphite process, and 2-5 per cent by the soda process. Balsam fir is being used more than formerly in the mechanical process, and less in the sulphite process. It has also been used in the soda process for the first time in 1911. The proportions were, in 1911: mechanical, 7 6-2 per cent; sulphite, 23-1 per cent; and soda, 0-7 per cent; and in 1910: mechanical, 53 per cent; sulphite, 47 per cent.
