Book Synopsis Bark Beetle Management, Ecology, and Climate Change by : Kamal J.K. Gandhi
Download or read book Bark Beetle Management, Ecology, and Climate Change written by Kamal J.K. Gandhi and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-10-28 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bark Beetle Management, Ecology, and Climate Change provides the most updated and comprehensive knowledge on the complex effects of global warming upon the economically and ecologically important bark beetle species and their host trees. This authoritative reference synthesizes information on how forest disturbances and environmental changes due to current and future climate changes alter the ecology and management of bark beetles in forested landscapes. Written by international experts on bark beetle ecology, this book covers topics ranging from changes in bark beetle distributions and addition of novel hosts due to climate change, interactions of insects with altered host physiology and disturbance regimes, ecosystem-level impacts of bark beetle outbreaks due to climate change, multi-trophic changes mediated via climate change, and management of bark beetles in altered forests and climate conditions. Bark Beetle Management, Ecology, and Climate Change is an important resource for entomologists, as well as forest health specialists, policy makers, and conservationists who are interested in multi-faceted impacts of climate change on forest insects at the organismal, population, and community-levels. The only book that addresses the impacts of global warming on bark beetles with feedback loops to forest patterns and processes Discusses altered disturbance regimes due to climate change with implications for bark beetles and associated organisms Led by a team of editors whose expertise includes entomology, pathology, ecology, forestry, modeling, and tree physiology

Download or read book Field Guide to Diseases and Insects of the Rocky Mountain Region written by U.s. Department of Agriculture and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-10-19 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This field guide details the most commonly encountered diseases and insects of forest trees in the Rocky Mountain Region. Descriptions of diseases, insects, and physical injuries focus on the most diagnostic features of each. Photographs, line drawings, and tables are used to illustrate and emphasize characteristics described in the text. Diseases and insects in plains hardwood trees are not covered in depth. Ornamental trees are sometimes affected by the diseases or insects included in this guide but may not be specifically mentioned as hosts. This guide presents diseases and then insects. Entries are arranged according to the part of trees typically damaged by the agent described. The disease section describes dwarf and true mistletoes, decays (including root diseases and stem decays), cankers, wilts, rusts, foliage diseases, shoot blights, and abiotic injuries and miscellaneous diseases. The insect section describes bark beetles, defoliators, wood borers, sap-sucking insects, gall formers, mites, and bud and shoot insects. At the end of the guide is a subject index, a host-pest index to damaging agents by tree species and part of the tree affected, and a glossary of terms. The host-pest index provides a rapid means of assessing the number and variety of agents described for each tree species. This field guide applies to the USDA Forest Service's Rocky Mountain Region, which includes Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Kansas, and Nebraska. Additional hosts, diseases, and insect pests may be encountered outside this Region that are not included here, and a few of the diseases and insects included in this guide may not be seen in other areas. Plant pathologists and entomologists are available to assist resource managers with identification of insects and pathogens encountered in the forests.

This book was released on 1998-02 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference was meant to facilitate the development of mutually beneficial human-wildland interactions by exploring ways in which to restore and sustain land health, as well as that of dependent human communities, in an adaptive ecosystem management context. General adaptive ecosystem restoration and management principles were discussed, however the conference was specifically designed to encourage cooperative North American work. The primary focus was on long-needled pine (principally ponderosa and closely related pines) and mixed-conifer landscape systems in the Western U.S.
