The Goldlist method is a simple vocabulary learning method using your long-term memory. The author of this method is the famous polyglot, David James. The basic rule of this method is that every day you write down a list of 20 words/expressions you want to learn in your notebook (we call it a headlist). Then you make 14-days break and come back to the list. You cover the expressions in your native language and translate them at loud. You sort out the expressions that you remember (you will find out you remember almost 30%!) and copy those you don't (14 expressions). This step we call 1st distillation. You wait next 14 days and repeat the process (2nd distillation). After the 2nd distillation, you sort out 10 expressions. Adults who want to learn a foreign language are often discouraged because they believe they cannot acquire a language as easily as children. Once they begin to learn a language, adults may be further discouraged when they find the methods used to teach children don't seem to work for them. What is an adult language learner to do? In this book, Richard Roberts and Roger Kreuz draw on insights from psychology and cognitive science to show that adults can master a foreign language if they bring to bear the skills and knowledge they have honed over a lifetime.
