This book was released on 1987 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The changing character of Orange County over the past 20 years from semi-rural to urban has produced a growing need for more efficient transportation facilities. The mobility problems being encountered are significant and are expected to become worse. It is evident that these problems cannot be solved entirely with the building of more highway facilities. In response to this problem, the Orange County Transit District (OCTD) is pursuing a transit development strategy which involves the provision of exclusive preferential facilities for buses, carpools and vanpools primarily within freeway rights-of-way ..."--Abstract.
Book Synopsis Preferential Lane Treatments for High-occupancy Vehicles by : Charles A. Fuhs
Download or read book Preferential Lane Treatments for High-occupancy Vehicles written by Charles A. Fuhs and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to transportation planners, highway engineers, environmental personnel, highway design engineers, transit planners, highway administrators, and others concerned with the planning, design, and operational features of preferential high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on highways. Information is provided on the current and proposed state of the practice in North America. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to preferential treatment for HOVs on highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on long-distance facilities, such as barrier-separated, concurrent-flow (separated and nonseparated), and contraflow facilities, as well as on short-distance facilities, such as queue by-pass lanes. Planning, design, and operational features of each treatment are described. The issues and operating results are described, and specific case studies are included.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This design guide has been developed for the purpose of helping to achieve the following transportation systems management (TSM) goals: To maximize the person-moving capacity of roadway facilities by providing improved operating level of service for high occupancy vehicles (HOVs), both public and private; To conserve fuel and to minimize consumption of other resources needed for transportation; To improve air quality; and To increase overall accessibility while reducing vehicular congestion. Part I deals with HOV options in terms of planning and operations; Part II deals with design criteria for HOV options on freeways; and Part III deals with design criteria for HOV options on surface arterial streets.

Book Synopsis Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes by :
Download or read book Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The third edition Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook provides comprehensive information on travel demand effects of alternative urban transportation policies, operating approaches and systems, and built environment options, by building upon, expanding, and selectively replacing the earlier editions to provide a contemporary assessment of the experience and insights gained from the application and analysis of various system changes and alternatives. The focus is on aiding transportation, transit, and land use planners in their conduct of travel demand and related analyses, and to inform elected officials, administrators, operators, designers, and the general public as well. The Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook consists of the Chapter 1 introductory materials and 15 stand-alone published topic area chapters. Each topic area chapter provides traveler response findings including supportive information and interpretation, and also includes case studies and a bibliography consisting of the references utilized as sources. Please note that Chapters 4, 7, and 8 have been deferred for a future TCRP project effort. The Handbook findings derive primarily from reported results and analyses of real-world transportation system and policy applications and trials. Experimental or quasi-experimental empirical data have been the information source of choice. Other empirical data derivations and simple accounts of outcomes have been employed as necessary. Forecasts and other estimates derived from travel demand model applications and similar techniques have been used, but on a very selective basis; mostly for augmenting the empirical data where gaps exist, and for providing additional insights and context. TCRP Report 95: Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook will be of interest to transit, transportation, and land use planning practitioners; transportation engineers; land developers, employers, and school administrators; researchers and educators; and professionals across a broad spectrum of transportation and planning; metropolitan planning organizations; and local, state, and federal government agencies."--taken from publisher web site.
