Book excerpt: Structural Dynamics: Concepts and Applications focuses on dynamic problems in mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering through the equations of motion. The text explains structural response from dynamic loads and the modeling and calculation of dynamic responses in structural systems. A range of applications is included, from various engineering disciplines. Coverage progresses consistently from basic to advanced, with emphasis placed on analytical methods and numerical solution techniques. Stress analysis is discussed, and MATLAB applications are integrated throughout. A solutions manual and figure slides for classroom projection are available for instructors.
Book Synopsis An Experimental and Analytical Vibration Study of Elliptical Cylindrical Shells by : John L. Sewall
Download or read book An Experimental and Analytical Vibration Study of Elliptical Cylindrical Shells written by John L. Sewall and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports an experimental and analytical vibration study of free-free isotropic elliptical cylindrical shells of constant mass ranging in cross-sectional eccentricity from zero (circular shell) to 0.916. Experimental resonant frequencies, nodal patterns, and mode shapes were obtained by use of an air-jet shaker or an electrodynamic shaker with a noncontact inductance probe that could be moved over most of the shell surface. Experimental frequencies were in generally good agreement with analytical frequencies calculated by means of a Rayleigh-Ritz type of analysis featuring multiterm longitudinal and circumferential modal expansions. Frequencies for shells with eccentricity of 0.916 were as much as 40 percent below the corresponding circular-shell frequencies. As eccentricity increased, analytical and experimental mode shapes indicated considerable longitudinal and circumferential modal coupling.

Book Synopsis Fluid-Structure Interactions: Volume 2 by : Michael P. Paidoussis
Download or read book Fluid-Structure Interactions: Volume 2 written by Michael P. Paidoussis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second of two volumes concentrating on the dynamics of slender bodies within or containing axial flow, Volume 2 covers fluid-structure interactions relating to shells, cylinders and plates containing or immersed in axial flow, as well as slender structures subjected to annular and leakage flows. This volume has been thoroughly updated to reference the latest developments in the field, with a continued emphasis on the understanding of dynamical behaviour and analytical methods needed to provide long-term solutions and validate the latest computational methods and codes, with increased coverage of computational techniques and numerical methods, particularly for the solution of non-linear three-dimensional problems. - Provides an in-depth review of an extensive range of fluid-structure interaction topics, with detailed real-world examples and thorough referencing throughout for additional detail - Organized by structure and problem type, allowing you to dip into the sections that are relevant to the particular problem you are facing, with numerous appendices containing the equations relevant to specific problems - Supports development of long-term solutions by focusing on the fundamentals and mechanisms needed to understand underlying causes and operating conditions under which apparent solutions might not prove effective
