Book excerpt: Apart from humans, every other creature on this planet is governed by predefined rules. They need to eat, sleep, and reproduce. Their way of life is sensible, non-destructive, and completely aligned with nature. But why is it different for humans? Why has nature granted us the power of choice? I don't have the answer right now, but one thing I am sure of is that this power is definitely not self-destructive. Why would nature want us to be lifeless and unhealthy? Now, the next question arises: why do we choose self-destruction? Is it because we don't know how to be human? Is it because we are not trained enough to deal with this heavy machinery that is our intelligence? Let's understand it with an example: a monkey is not truly a monkey without the knowledge of climbing a tree and hopping from branch to branch. I am sure it would be bewildering if it were not able to do so. Why? Because that's what its inner nature desires. So, without knowing how to exercise the powers that nature has bestowed upon us, how can we be true human beings? Therefore, if we are not properly skilled at being humans, unhappiness will follow us no matter what. This constant state of unhappiness leads to an unhealthy body and an unhealthy mind. In today's modern world, especially among the younger population, humans are greatly suffering from mental health issues. It is high time that we change our ways, break free from our piles of physical pleasures, exercise our power of choice, and start learning how to be a true human. It's a long journey from ignorance to awareness, and 'Footprints of Light' is a small effort in this direction. Come and be a part of this beautiful journey with me.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On July 20, 1969, at 3:16 p.m., Commander Neil Armstrong brought the lunar module, Eagle , to a safe landing on the Moon. Millions of television viewers on Earth watched breathlessly as he then became the first man to set foot on the Moon. This amazing achievement was years, even centuries, in the making. The Moon and the heavens have intrigued mankind since ancient times. FOOTPRINTS ON THE MOON chronicles the spirit and determination of visionaries from Galileo to John F. Kennedy, whose dream of reaching the Moon was finally and superbly realized through the efforts of the Apollo missions. With a compelling and thoroughly researched text, the great vision of the scientists, engineers, and astronauts who struggled to make the dream a reality is brought into sharp focus. The book brings to light great triumphs and tragedies. Readers will learn about the years of determination, experimentation, and risk that gave rise to many space explorations, including 17 Apollo missions. Today the Moon is less of a mystery than in ancient times, but it is still a wonder. Breathtaking photographs--many from NASA--portray the indescribable beauty of outer space, the Moon, and the wonder of mankind's inspiring vision.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like a graphic artist, the discriminating pen of John of the Cross (1540-1591) sketches 'a trail made up of the footprints of love'. He does not sketch a romantic image of a 'mystical' paradise where we may experience the glory of the divine presence. Listening to the stories of the struggles of countless people in his day, he became an experienced mystical teacher who introduces the reader into Carmelite spirtuality as a 'school of love'. To encounter the other we must venture to enter a new land where there are no familiar roads. The wilderness of the mystic is the space where the face of the other can light up. In his love God withdraws himself so that human life may take shape as 'a trail made up of the footprints of love'. This book contains a set of explorations of the logic of divine love, a love which transforms men into true lovers. It deals with the four great commentaries of John of the Cross and one of his poems.

Book excerpt: It's 1967 and five-year-old David Hyler already knows that bad things happen when his father becomes angry. His best friends are his beloved stuffed dog, Ginger, and his mother. But when his mother is killed in a car accident, David's challenges become overwhelming. After he's sent to live in an orphanage run by his paternal grandparents, David struggles through childhood and into his adult years, comforted only by his kindly grandfather, prayer, and a deep faith in God. As David's journey eventually leads him to marry a compassionate woman and care for abused German shepherds, fate brings him Cadie, an unadoptable outcast of a dog that has been returned more times than any other. After animal and human souls intertwine, David is finally provided a chance to live the kind of life he has always longed for as he finds the healing power of love, learns valuable life lessons, and embraces the joy of being cherished. Footprints is the inspirational and true story of the power of faith, hope, love, rescue, and redemption as a broken man who has lost everything finds a second chance with an abused dog no one wanted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When American forces arrived in Vietnam, they found themselves embedded in historic village and frontier spaces already shaped by many past conflicts. American bases and bombing targets followed spatial and political logics influenced by the footprints of past wars in central Vietnam. The militarized landscapes here, like many in the worlds historic conflict zones, continue to shape post-war land-use politics. Footprints of War traces the long history of conflict-produced spaces in Vietnam, beginning with early modern wars and the French colonial invasion in 1885 and continuing through the collapse of the Saigon government in 1975. The result is a richly textured history of militarized landscapes that reveals the spatial logic of key battles such as the Tet Offensive. Drawing on extensive archival work and years of interviews and fieldwork in the hills and villages around the city of Hue to illuminate wars footprints, David Biggs also integrates historical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, using aerial, high-altitude, and satellite imagery to render otherwise placeless sites into living, multidimensional spaces. This personal and multilayered approach yields an innovative history of the lasting traces of war in Vietnam and a model for understanding other militarized landscapes.
