Book Synopsis Flight Testing of a Cryogenically Cooled Hygrometer by : James F. Church
Download or read book Flight Testing of a Cryogenically Cooled Hygrometer written by James F. Church and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cryogenically cooled, optical dew/frost point hygrometer was developed to provide a fast response aircraft instrument for the measurement of very low frost-point temperatures encountered at the higher altitudes. A detailed description of the device is presented, along with a discussion of the laboratory and flight tests performed to date. Problems encountered during the tests are outlined, and recommended changes to the instrument are made for the benefit of those contemplating its use in the future. (Author).

Download or read book Cryocoolers written by Graham Walker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapidly expanding use of very low temperatures in research and high technology during the last several decades and the concurrent high degree of activity in cryogenic engineering have mutually supported each other, each improvement in refrigeration technique making possible wider oppor tunities for research and each new scientific discovery creating a need for a refrigerator with special features. In this book, Professor Walker has provided us with an excellent exposition of the achievements of this period, the fundamental principles involved, and a critical examination of the many different cryogenic systems which have led to a new era of low-level refrigeration. I feel fortunate to have had a part in the developments discussed in this book. During the early 1930s I constructed several rotary engines using leather vanes. Their performance was not good, but I was able to liquefy air. I had been impressed by the usefulness of leather cups in tire pumps and in Claude-type engines for air liquefaction. I was trying to find a way to avoid that part of the friction generated by a leather cup as a result of the radial force of the working gas on the cylindrical part of the cup. During the 1950s I built two efficient helium liquefiers in which essentially leather pistons were used.

Book Synopsis Monitoring Atmospheric Water Vapour by : Niklaus Kämpfer
Download or read book Monitoring Atmospheric Water Vapour written by Niklaus Kämpfer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-13 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atmospheric water plays a key role in climate. Water vapour is the most important greenhouse gas and its condensed forms exert a profound influence on both incoming solar and outgoing infrared radiation. Unfortunately, accurate, height-resolved global-scale measurements of atmospheric humidity are difficult to obtain. The change in concentration of five orders of magnitude form the ground to the stratosphere means there is no standard instrument that will measure everywhere. This has led to different measuring techniques, all with strengths and weaknesses. This book assesses all presently available techniques that are used in monitoring networks. Special weight is given to presenting the different technical concepts, the accuracy of different sensor types, addresses calibration issues and retrieval aspects.
