Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steven Cassedy takes aim at two of the most enduring myths of modern criticism: that it is secular, and that it is new and autonomous. He argues that though modern criticism is often forbiddingly scientific and technical, the modern critic remains something of a mystic. Every school of modern criticism—from structuralism to postmodern criticism—rests on a faith in an "Eden," an irreducible essence, a myth, like the common myth that there is an intrinsic distinction between "poetic" language and "ordinary" language. The modern critic attempts to abandon all mystical faith; this is the "flight from Eden." But it is always in vain. It is traditionally assumed that modern literary criticism and theory came from France, and relatively recently. In fact, according to Cassedy, the entire modern critical consciousness was already formed by the early twentieth century in the minds of writers who were primarily neither professional critics nor philosophers, but poets. Some were French (Mallarmé, and Valéry); others were not (Rilke, Bely, and the Russian avant-garde poet Velimir Khlebnikov). In them we find the same Edenic faith, the same effort to abandon it, and the same failure of that effort. Book excerpt: Civilization is advancing rapidly, the world population burgeoning. Satan has caused the fall of man and now wants complete control of Earth. all that stands in his way is that annoying line of humans descended from Seth; they insist on honoring their Creator. And there is that other problem, the prophecy spoken in the Garden of Eden about a Redeemer who's coming who has the power to "crush his head!" Knowing the Redeemer must be born of a human to be truly both human and God, Satan initiates a scheme to pollute the human bloodline and prevent the prophesy from coming to pass!

Book excerpt: "I spent all my life flying from city to city, and from continent to continent, but my best flight was still to come, the most important one. This one is going to take me from Earth to Eden, with an extremely Bright and Wise Man, with a profound and unique knowledge about the human being and the human body and its cells. Once you get to know Him, there is no way back. We only meet you for a reason, Master. Which reason is mine...? I know it now" ... whispers Nili. But I also know that the price of this flight is extremely high. I know that one day, somehow, it has to be paid... added Nili. I don't forget these things, like some of your previous passengers, who just took this flight for granted and left by jumping out, but into a free fall, before destination."..................................In his 7th book, Dr. Eden shares the messages that his dismissed disciple, Nili, sent him from Earth after he had decided to let her go by telling her this: "I must let people go, Nili. If they come back to me, they belong to my Eden, if they don't, they were never meant to be part of this Eden." She finally found her reason and didn't miss her last flight, the one to Eden: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is Your Captain, Fabio Eden, speaking. Welcome on board on flight FA300 to Eden. Our unique destination is to reach a pure state of mind, to find our soul, the one we left in our childhood. We will go through many turbulences, and bumpy roads, but please don't panic, and trust and listen to your captain. I will inform you of all the procedures for your own safety and comfort in this flight to Eden.We will go over different climate changes, different sceneries, but please make sure that you will never want to leave this flight until the final destination. All sceneries are just the mirage images that may deceive you from your final destination, please don't be fooled by those superficial beauties and attractions on our road. This is the final flight for you, the last moment of decision to stay on Earth or to take off for Eden, the last turn of dice, and you were brave enough to take the right flight. If you don't trust your captain, you shouldn't be in this flight. I am your captain, maybe just for today, but surely for this life, and I came especially to Earth in order to take you back to Eden. Fabio Airlines thank you for your loyalty and wanting to be on board for our unique destination forever."

Book excerpt: It´s time. It´s starting in earnest with the increasing rain and earthquakes. Global warming is crashing through the myriad doors of Mother Earth´s mansion. The Gaian concept says the Earth is alive, and she´s pissed. The planet Earth has been sick for a long while. Mother Nature has been leaving subtle clues to that effect. Mankind has caused the sickness, but humans ignored the fact. Nature's announcements, noticed by only a few concerned scientists, have been largely disregarded by the rest of Earth's population. More noteworthy, however, the economy has continued to improve over the decades. The first scientific base became operational on the Moon. As the lives of the people on Earth prospered, orbital habitats were built, and Man's quest to journey into space continued. People didn't give a damn about a few picky signals from their home planet. My science fiction story, Flight to Eden, takes a searching, powerful, and thought- provoking look at a world suffering for years from a disease completely ignored by humans: Pollution! In a self-initiated treatment, Mother Nature wages war in her own unique way against the ravages of Mankind. In the process, she prescribes the medication, and then cures herself! The extent of the healing, and the ultimate destiny of the world's former inhabitants, comes at a terrible though fascinating cost for Mankind. The story spans a millennium, covers the progress, the devastation, and then the reconstruction in three increments: The one hundred seventy prosperous years up until the time of The Healing; the 800 years after The Healing, while Mother Nature, and the population adjust to the cure; and a brief time near the millennium's end, when three divergent groups of humans attempt a reoccupation of Earth's, now healed, and clean surface, with surprising consequences. The last page of the book will astound you. Pollution, the mephitic toxicity of the air humans sucked into their lungs, continued to thicken and worsen. The average annual temperature continued to rise. Large chunks of polar ice, from both Arctic and Antarctic regions, fell into the oceans. Aircraft and ships reported an increase in the number of icebergs. Water levels along coastlines rose slowly but steadily. A significant number of the populations sought cleaner pastures, their primary objective: Flee from the polluted atmosphere surrounding Earth. Some migrated off-world to live in space, others chose to join the exodus to live underground, and yet, most humans, for whatever the reasons, choose to remain on the surface and make the best of things. As the delicate balance of Earth's ecology had continued to change, Mother Nature became sick and tired of being sick and tired from all of Mankind's abuse, caused by ignorance, apathy, and greed. The human population had picked away at the weary world, until there remained little else for it to do, but begin a massive healing process. In particular, the increase in pollution, acid rain, and Man's continued destruction of the rain forests, finally tipped the scales. It became time for drastic action. In order to save itself, Earth fought back the only way her military force, Mother Nature, knew how: Environmental clean up crews mustered to the call for healing. Self-preservation, and a clean environment were her generals. Like huge macrophages, horrendous weather, accompanied by earthquakes, flooding, vulcanism, and pestilence, scoured the surface. Resembling advancing armies, these weapons went to work mending the cancerous damage. The armies fought relentlessly, but before the Earth would be cured, a significant amount of healing had to take place. It did not happen overnight. A period known as, The Healing, began with torrential rains, greatly exceeding the 40-day biblical epoch. It rained almost every day for more than three years, beginning a process of global cleansing never before witnessed by hu

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Flight to Eden: A Florida Romance Lady Kitty had been dead seven days, buried two. To Basil Forrester the days had been weeks. The postman had seemed to stagger to the house under the weight of letters of condolence. The door-bell seemed perpetually clanging through the quiet house at the call of messengers and telegraph boys. The streets, when he ventured upon them, seemed thronged with friends bent upon condolence. Broken as he was, he found it almost beyond his strength to endure sympathy from those who knew nothing of the cause of his wife's death, nor of the manner of it, nor of his share in it. Now, when he longed for silence, solitude, and the sight of strangers, was the moment to have slipped away from London; yet somehow he could not go. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This historical study sheds new light on the partnership and rivalry between two of the UK’s most significant political leaders from WWII to the Cold War. For more than two decades, Winston Churchill and Anthony Eden worked closely together. As Churchill’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary, Eden took over leadership of the nation when Churchill resigned from office. But while one is revered as a great leader and national icon, the other is remembered as the architect of Britain's worst foreign policy failure. Churchill and Eden tells the story of the relationship between two men who led Britain through war and peace. The narrative ranges from the sunny south of France to the deserts of Africa and the jungles of Vietnam, covering the eras of the Second World War, the decline of Britain's Empire and the coming of the Cold War. Historian David Charlwood offers a new perspective on the lives and decision-making of two of the most well-known political figures of the Twentieth Century.
