The countries represented were: Algeria. Canada. Chile. China. Czechoslovakia. Denmark. France. the Federal Republic of Germany. Greece. Holland. India. Italy. Pakistan. Peru. Poland. Sweden. Switzerland. Turkey. the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. the United Kingdom. and the United States of America. The School was sponsored by the European Physical Society (EPS). the Italian Ministry of Education (MPI). the Italian Ministry of University and Scientific Research. the Sicilian Regional Government (ERS). and the Weizmann Institute of Science. The new topic discussed in some detail at the School was QCD phenomenology at 200 TeV. This energy frontier represents the goal for subnuclear physics after LHC and sse. The main lecturers were T.D. Lee. L. Cifarelli. Y. Dokshitzer and A. Ringwald. There are two possibilities. one optimistic. the other pessimistic. LHC and SSC can produce remarkable discoveries. In this case. the need to go to higher energies will be obvious. In the pessimistic case. LHC and SSC will produce the strongest evidence for the validity of the Standard Model. The need for higher energies will be impelled. In neither case can we wait. If the 200 TeV frontier is to be reached within our lifetime we need to start now: thinking and preparing the tools. Theory and R&D for future detectors are the basic points of the 200 TeV frontier.

Starting with the theory of regressus as displayed in its most developed form by William Wallace, these papers enter the vast field of the Renaissance discussion on method as such in its historical and systematical context. This is confined neither to the notion of method in the strict sense, nor to the Renaissance in its exact historical limits, nor yet to the Aristotelian tradition as a well defined philosophical school, but requires a new scholarly approach. The list of contents closely follows the programme of the workshop. The workshop, attended by 128 American, European, and Japanese physicists from 60 different institutions and universities, was sponsored by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (lNFN) and was organized by the INFN Section located at the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS), which kindly provided the venue for the meeting and many related facilities. The goal of the workshop was to summarize the present situa tion and the future perspectives concerning the theoretical descriptions of strongly interacting few-body systems and their experimental investigation by electromagnetic and hadronic probes, mainly at intermediate energies. To this end, representatives from most international groups working within different theoretical methods and with different experimental facilities, were invited and asked to illustrate their latest results and future research programs; the intention was to provide, by this way, an impartial and broad information which could be useful to whom is actively working in few body physics, as well as to young students entering this field of research.
