Book Synopsis Numerical Analysis by : Larkin Ridgway Scott
Download or read book Numerical Analysis written by Larkin Ridgway Scott and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational science is fundamentally changing how technological questions are addressed. The design of aircraft, automobiles, and even racing sailboats is now done by computational simulation. The mathematical foundation of this new approach is numerical analysis, which studies algorithms for computing expressions defined with real numbers. Emphasizing the theory behind the computation, this book provides a rigorous and self-contained introduction to numerical analysis and presents the advanced mathematics that underpin industrial software, including complete details that are missing from most textbooks. Using an inquiry-based learning approach, Numerical Analysis is written in a narrative style, provides historical background, and includes many of the proofs and technical details in exercises. Students will be able to go beyond an elementary understanding of numerical simulation and develop deep insights into the foundations of the subject. They will no longer have to accept the mathematical gaps that exist in current textbooks. For example, both necessary and sufficient conditions for convergence of basic iterative methods are covered, and proofs are given in full generality, not just based on special cases. The book is accessible to undergraduate mathematics majors as well as computational scientists wanting to learn the foundations of the subject. Presents the mathematical foundations of numerical analysis Explains the mathematical details behind simulation software Introduces many advanced concepts in modern analysis Self-contained and mathematically rigorous Contains problems and solutions in each chapter Excellent follow-up course to Principles of Mathematical Analysis by Rudin

Book Synopsis Numerical Analysis by : Brian Sutton
Download or read book Numerical Analysis written by Brian Sutton and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook develops the fundamental skills of numerical analysis: designing numerical methods, implementing them in computer code, and analyzing their accuracy and efficiency. A number of mathematical problems?interpolation, integration, linear systems, zero finding, and differential equations?are considered, and some of the most important methods for their solution are demonstrated and analyzed. Notable features of this book include the development of Chebyshev methods alongside more classical ones; a dual emphasis on theory and experimentation; the use of linear algebra to solve problems from analysis, which enables students to gain a greater appreciation for both subjects; and many examples and exercises. Numerical Analysis: Theory and Experiments is designed to be the primary text for a junior- or senior-level undergraduate course in numerical analysis for mathematics majors. Scientists and engineers interested in numerical methods, particularly those seeking an accessible introduction to Chebyshev methods, will also be interested in this book.

Book Synopsis Introductory Numerical Analysis by : Mircea Andrecut
Download or read book Introductory Numerical Analysis written by Mircea Andrecut and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2000-02 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide a simple and useful introduction for the fresh students into the vast field of numerical analysis. Like any other introductory course on numerical analysis, this book contains the basic theory, which in the present text refers to the following topics: linear equations, nonlinear equations, eigensystems, interpolation, approximation of functions, numerical differentiation and integration, stochastics, ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations. Because the students need to quickly understand why the numerical methods correctly work, the proofs of theorems were shorted as possible, insisting more on ideas than on a lot of algebra manipulation. The included examples are presented with a minimum of complications, emphasizing the steps of the algorithms. The numerical methods described in this book are illustrated by computer programs written in C. Our goal was to develop very simple programs which are easily to read and understand by students. Also, the programs should run without modification on any compiler that implements the ANSI C standard. Because our intention was to easily produce screen input-output (using, scanf and printf), in case of WINDOWS visual programming environments, like Visual C++ (Microsoft) and Borland C++ Builder, the project should be console-application. This will be not a problem for DOS and LINUX compilers. If this material is used as a teaching aid in a class, I would appreciate if under such circumstances, the instructor of such a class would send me a note at the address below informing me if the material is useful. Also, I would appreciate any suggestions or constructive criticism regarding the content of these lecture notes.

Download or read book Numerical Analysis written by Ian Jacques and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily intended for undergraduates in mathematics, the physical sciences and engineering. It introduces students to most of the techniques forming the core component of courses in numerical analysis. The text is divided into eight chapters which are largely self-contained. However, with a subject as intricately woven as mathematics, there is inevitably some interdependence between them. The level of difficulty varies and, although emphasis is firmly placed on the methods themselves rather than their analysis, we have not hesitated to include theoretical material when we consider it to be sufficiently interesting. However, it should be possible to omit those parts that do seem daunting while still being able to follow the worked examples and to tackle the exercises accompanying each section. Familiarity with the basic results of analysis and linear algebra is assumed since these are normally taught in first courses on mathematical methods. For reference purposes a list of theorems used in the text is given in the appendix.

Book Synopsis First Steps for Math Olympians: Using the American Mathematics Competitions by : J. Douglas Faires
Download or read book First Steps for Math Olympians: Using the American Mathematics Competitions written by J. Douglas Faires and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any high school student preparing for the American Mathematics Competitions should get their hands on a copy of this book! A major aspect of mathematical training and its benefit to society is the ability to use logic to solve problems. The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) have been given for more than fifty years to millions of high school students. This book considers the basic ideas behind the solutions to the majority of these problems, and presents examples and exercises from past exams to illustrate the concepts. Anyone taking the AMC exams or helping students prepare for them will find many useful ideas here. But people generally interested in logical problem solving should also find the problems and their solutions interesting. This book will promote interest in mathematics by providing students with the tools to attack problems that occur on mathematical problem-solving exams, and specifically to level the playing field for those who do not have access to the enrichment programs that are common at the top academic high schools. The book can be used either for self-study or to give people who want to help students prepare for mathematics exams easy access to topic-oriented material and samples of problems based on that material. This is useful for teachers who want to hold special sessions for students, but it is equally valuable for parents who have children with mathematical interest and ability. As students' problem solving abilities improve, they will be able to comprehend more difficult concepts requiring greater mathematical ingenuity. They will be taking their first steps towards becoming math Olympians!
