Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Every believer in Jesus Christ deserves the opportunity of personal nurture and development." says LeRoy Eims. But all too often the opportunity isn't there. We neglect the young Christian in our whirl of programs, church services, and fellowship groups. And we neglect to raise up workers and leaders who can disciple young believers into mature and fruitful Christians. In simple, practical, and biblical terms, LeRoy Eims revives the lost art of disciple making. He explains: - How the early church discipled new Christians - How to meet the basic needs of a growing Christian - How to spot and train potential workers - How to develop mature, godly leaders "True growth takes time and tears and love and patience," Eims states. There is no instant maturity. This book examines the growth process in the life of a Christian and considers what nurture and guidance it takes to develop spiritually qualified workers in the church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When It Comes to Disciple Making . . . You Get What You Aim For! Because the church grows at the edges, discipling new believers may be one of the most important things you do! Jesus knew this. At the pivotal post-resurrection point, he took the newer-in-faith and synergized a movement. Yet the biblical example and current trends do not match--churches lack consistently in four areas: Aim: They fail to shoot for the new believer's evangelistic influence. Approach: They teach, but do not instill practices. Angle: Non-relational follow-up leads to disconnected disciples. Anticipation: Limited time did not produce lasting impact. Re-visioning, First Steps offers a fourfold course correction. Set your sights on the superior targets--and exciting results await! This guide will prepare you for the biggest assignment ever given: turn simple followers into strategic players.

In a time when so many have a negative perception of evangelism, what if a new model was entirely biblical, loaded with skills, and more effective? Soul Whisperer shifts the emphasis from "telling" to a "drawing" paradigm. It develops biblically the pattern of Jesus, who did not give static presentations but rather customized his words to each hearer. By learning his ways, our words, too, can have pinpointed impact! Christians will discover how to draw out first, in order to read their friends and discern the relevant appeal of the gospel. In this way, the style is far more dynamic. It adapts! Understanding the non-believer's unique starting point will determine a distinct path. By creating a conversation about spiritual influence and what is involved in faith formation, this book charts ways for Christians to go deeper in evangelistic relationships. Most importantly, Soul Whisperer infuses skills that will shape a more Christ-likened missional disciple.

But lack of growth might not be due to lack of concern for new people—it may be because we are not effectively discipling the people we already have. Greg Ogden address the need for discipleship in the local church and recovers Jesus' method of accomplishing life change by investing in just a few people at a time. Ogden sets forth his vision for transforming both the individual disciple and discipleship itself, showing how discipleship can become a self-replicating process with ongoing impact from generation to generation. This revised and updated edition includes a new chapter on discipleship and preaching.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we transmit a living, personal Catholic faith to future generations? By coming to know Jesus Christ, and following him as his disciples. These are times of immense challenge and immense opportunity for the Catholic Church. Consider these statistics for the United States. Only 30 percent of Americans who were raised Catholic are still practicing. Fully 10 percent of all adults in America are ex-Catholics. The number of marriages celebrated in the Church decreased dramatically, by nearly 60 percent, between 1972 and 2010. Only 60 percent of Catholics believe in a personal God. If the Church is to reverse these trends, the evangelizers must first be evangelized-in other words, Catholics-in-the-pew must make a conscious choice to know and follow Jesus before they can draw others to him. This work of discipleship lies at the heart of Forming Intentional Disciples, a book designed to help Church leaders, parish staff and all Catholics transform parish life from within. Drawing upon her fifteen years of experience with the Catherine of Siena Institute, Sherry Weddell leads readers through steps that will help Catholics enter more deeply into a relationship with God and the river of apostolic creativity, charisms, and vocation that flow from that relationship for the sake of the Church and the world. Learn about the five thresholds of postmodern conversion, how to open a conversation about faith and belief, how to ask thought-provoking questions and establish an atmosphere of trust, when to tell the Great Story of Jesus, how to help someone respond to God's call to intentional discipleship, and much more. And be prepared for conversion because when life at the parish level changes, the life of the whole Church will change.

Book excerpt: Are you new to the Christian faith, or do you oversee a group of new believers? Then "First Steps" is the book that you need to grow and become strong in your relationship with your Heavenly Father through the work of Yeshua...Jesus the Messiah. INTRODUCTION First Steps is a basic discipleship course aimed at helping new Christian believers grow in their understanding and application of spiritual truths. The course is also for those who have questions concerning God and His Word who may not yet have made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ. (Yeshua Messiah). I was prompted by the Lord to write the course in order to set out some Biblical truths for new believers; First Steps is suitable for use in small discipleship groups or can be used for individuals. It was born out of an earnest desire to see new Christians established on a firm foundation in both knowledge of Scripture and obedience to God's eternal Word. It reflects a growing understanding in my personal walk with God, and in many other Christians today, of the Jewish roots of our faith. In the light of this revelation there is a vital need to read and apply God's Word. My prayer is that the Lord will use this simple resource to bless, enlighten and facilitate spiritual growth in all who take the time to study and walk out the Scriptural truths contained within it. Note: Throughout the course we will refer to Yeshua (Hebrew for Jesus, thus His true name) and often use the term Messiah rather than Christ, the latter being from the Greek translation of 'Messiah' - 'Christos', meaning 'Anointed One'. A Personal Background to the Course My name is Margaret Buckley. My earlier years were spent in both Assemblies of God Pentecostal churches and in a House Fellowship. My grandfather Charles Buckley was a pioneer Pastor within the Assemblies of God group of churches, hosting men like Smith Wigglesworth in his home. Though I never met him I grew up hearing many wonderful accounts from my parents of God's power at work to heal and deliver from sin. This, together with my parents' Godly example during my formative years, planted in me a deep respect for God's Word and a recognition of His power to heal and deliver through the ministries of true men and women of God. I have been discipling new believers for many years, leading Alpha courses and small Bible Study groups, also discipling individuals. I have had the privilege of witnessing many wonderful, life-changing responses to God's Word. Around the year 2000 I began to understand the heart of God for Israel, His people and Land, as He gave me revelation of their great significance in His plan and of my responsibility to pray for Israel. Soon after this the Lord brought me into contact with Mike and Shirley Fryer and it was my privilege to join with them in their small Fellowship in Mold, North Wales. I became actively involved in the developing ministry of this Fellowship which later became Father's House Sabbath Congregation, and have been an active leader since. As we learned more about the Feasts of the Lord, including Sabbath, I realised that I had been interpreting much of the Bible according to man's tradition and teaching. I had a deep awareness that He had directly guided me to this place of new understanding of Torah -often translated 'Law' in our Bibles but the real meaning being instructions or teaching. Since then, I have walked this path with great gratitude to the Lord and a sense of deep security as we align ourselves with His calendar in observing joyfully the Appointed Times of the Lord which we read of in Leviticus chapter 23. Obviously, Jesus was not telling his disciples to simply pray for a morsel of literal bread every day, right? Isn’t that obvious? Bread in the Bible was a powerful symbol of God’s provision—the act of supplying with food, drink, or equipment for a journey. So when you pray, “Give us this day, our daily bread,” you are actually saying, “God I need you to supply me with everything I need to make it through this journey of life, and I need you to do it EVERY DAY.” Well, here it is: all contained in this workbook, coupled with the corresponding video presentation. Simply spend 20-30 minutes with God every day, and He will serve you His daily provision, and every area of your life will grow to a remarkable and exponential proportion. You will become very close to your Heavenly Father. You will feel Him and hear Him speak to you every day. What a wonderful unexplainable feeling. Here is the daily “Time with God” formula: P.R.S.P. P - Pray 3-5 minutes, R – Read 5-10 minutes, S – Study 10-15 minutes, P – Pray 3-5 minutes. You’ve prayed for years, “Give us this day our DAILY BREAD,” well now, here it is

Book excerpt: Question: What is the God-given purpose of the local church? Answer: Relational discipleship. DiscipleShift walks you through five key "shifts" that churches must make to refocus on the fundamental biblical mission of discipleship. These intentional changes will attract the world and empower your church members to be salt and light in their communities. Over the last thirty years, many influential church leaders and church planters in America have adopted various models for reaching unchurched people. While many of these approaches have merit, something is still missing, something even more fundamental to the mission of the church: discipleship. Making disciples—helping people to trust and follow Jesus—is the church's God-given mandate. Devoted disciples attract people outside the church because of the change others see in their Christ-like lives. And discipleship empowers Christians to be more like Christ as they intentionally develop relationships with non-believers. Through biblical and professional insights, Jim Putman and Bobby Harrington discuss the transformational effectiveness of making disciples and just how to do so, in practical terms. You’ll learn: The specific roles of a disciple-making pastor. The components of person-to-person discipleship. How each ministry in your church leads to discipleship. How to implement discipleship in your church. Disciple-making leaders will not produce perfect churches, but they will create effective churches.
