Book Synopsis Namibia by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Namibia written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1998-01-15 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reports economic developments in Namibia during the 1990s. Since the early 1990s, average GDP growth has been higher than in the previous decade, owing to the opening of two new diamond mines, the extension of the limits of Namibia’s coastal waters, and the rapid growth in government services. Real GDP grew by more than 5 percent in 1991–92, contracted by 2 percent in 1993, and expanded by 7 percent in 1994 and 5 percent in 1995. The allocation of domestic expenditure fluctuated during 1990–95.
Book Synopsis Inclusive Community Development Through Tourism and Hospitality Practices by : Nadda, Vipin
Download or read book Inclusive Community Development Through Tourism and Hospitality Practices written by Nadda, Vipin and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-04-24 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable tourism should not be limited to environmental preservation; the sociocultural and economic sides should also be considered. There is a need for an integrated approach recognizing the resources, facilities, and infrastructures that are interrelated with the social, cultural, and natural environment. Community development becomes a reality only by merging the principles of sustainability with growth objectives. Even though investments in environmentally friendly infrastructure and related services are fundamental, there is a need to address gender inequalities, exploitation, and commercialization of culture. Further, there is a need to prioritize the link between tourism and poverty reduction. Inclusive Community Development Through Tourism and Hospitality Practices explores various viable strategies for the adoption of sustainable approaches that can eventually boost economic growth and poverty reduction all over the world. Covering topics such as international tourism, sustainable development, and tourism reinforcement, this premier reference source is an excellent resource for business leaders and managers, students and educators of higher education, community leaders, government officials, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Book Synopsis Understanding Namibia by : Henning Melber
Download or read book Understanding Namibia written by Henning Melber and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-01-04 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since independence in 1990, Namibia has witnessed only one generation with no memory of colonialism - the 'born frees', who voted in the 2009 elections. The anti-colonial liberation movement, SWAPO, dominates the political scene, effectively making Namibia a de facto one-party state dominated by the first 'struggle generation'. While those in power declare their support for a free, fair, and just society, the limits to liberation are such that emancipation from foreign rule has only been partially achieved. Despite its natural resources Namibia is among the world's most unequal societies and indicators of wellbeing have not markedly improved for many among the former colonized majority, despite a constitution enshrining human rights, social equality, and individual liberty. This book analyses the transformation of Namibian society since Independence. Melber explores the achievements and failures and contrasts the narrative of a post-colonial patriotic history with the socio-economic and political realities of the nation-building project. He also investigates whether, notwithstanding the relative stability prevailing to date, the negotiation of controlled change during Namibia's decolonization could have achieved more than simply a change of those in control.
