Book Synopsis Stability in the Financial System by : Dimitris Papadimitriou
Download or read book Stability in the Financial System written by Dimitris Papadimitriou and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-09-12 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The S&L crisis of the 1990s has given many a reason to review the events which led to a (in many ways) similar banking crisis sixty years ago, and the subsequent legislation of the Emergency Banking Act, the Banking Act of 1933, the Banking Act of 1935, and other related legislation. The reconstituted financial structure produced the longest period of financial stability in the US history, lasting one-half of a century. The book has two goals: provide an understanding of the reasons the banking reforms enacted in the 1930s were so successful; and present a set of policy proposals which offer the institutional provisions for both the financing of the capital development of the economy, and a safe payments system.

Book Synopsis Other People's Money by : Jeff Worsham
Download or read book Other People's Money written by Jeff Worsham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Questions of influence are at the heart of political science. A particularly compelling answer to the question of who wields influence takes the form of subsystems theory. Combining detailed historiographical and quantitative analysis, Jeffrey Worsham tracks, explains, and explores the policy consequences of political variation in the financial subsystem from its inception through the 1990s, arguing that subsystems are a wavering-equilibrium solution to the problem of policymaking in the United States. The book answers three interrelated questions with regard to the wavering-equilibrium solution. First, what have been the major patterns of participation, or political variation, in the financial subsystem for the first 100 years of its existence? Second, what accounts for those patterns and the change from one type of politics to another? Finally, what are the consequences of different types of subsystem politics for public policy?
Book Synopsis Monetary Policy Strategies by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Monetary Policy Strategies written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1988-10-04 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper considers the merits of rules and discretion for monetary policy when the structure of the macroeconomic model and the probability distributions of disturbances are not well defined. It is argued that when it is costly to delay policy reactions to seldom-experienced shocks until formal algorithmic learning has been accomplished, and when time consistency problems are significant, a mixed strategy that combines a simple verifiable rule with discretion is attractive. The paper also discusses mechanisms for mitigating credibility problems and emphasizes that arguments against various types of simple rules lose their force under a mixed strategy.
