Download or read book ANATOMY written by Ronald A. Bergman and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceived by two emeritus professors, Drs. Ronald A. Bergman and Adel K. Afifi—with a combined 100 years of experience teaching gross anatomy and neuroanatomy—this book is designed to facilitate the understanding of the “mysterious” terminology used in anatomy, biology, and medicine, making the learning experience as pleasant as possible. Readers will be able to incorporate this understanding into their career choices, whether they are medical, dental, nursing, health science, or biology students. Anatomy is unique in design, purpose, and scope. It defines the terminology of anatomy, including origin, and includes a gallery of biographies of scientists and researchers responsible for them. The third section of the book examines the nervous system, with definition and origin of named structures and syndromes in the central and peripheral nervous systems. The result is an enhancement of the learning process in neuroanatomy, which is fraught with a seemingly endless number of disconnected terms. This book is not merely a glossary. Anatomy serves as a reference encyclopedia, designed for students who are learning a new language that is indispensable for a career in the health and biological sciences. At first it may appear a formidable task, but this easy-to-follow book offers an explanation of how our anatomical lingo evolved from Greek, Latin, and other sources in order to make sense of these terms, helping to cement them in a student’s understanding.

Download or read book Enterprise Directory and Security Implementation Guide written by Charles Carrington and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2002-08-19 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Internet is connecting enterprises into a global economy. Companies are exposing their directories, or a part of their directories, to customers, business partners, the Internet as a whole, and to potential "hackers." If the directory structure is compromised, then the whole enterprise can be at risk. Security of this information is of utmost importance. This book provides examples and implementation guidelines on building secure and structured enterprise directories. The authors have worked with corporations around the world to help them design and manage enterprise directories that operate efficiently and guard against outside intrusion. These experts provide the reader with "best practices" on directory architecture, implementation, and enterprise security strategies.
Book Synopsis Gender, Technology and the New Woman by : Lena Wanggren
Download or read book Gender, Technology and the New Woman written by Lena Wanggren and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines late nineteenth-century feminism in relation to technologies of the time, marking the crucial role of technology in social and literary struggles for equality. The New Woman, the fin de siecle cultural archetype of early feminism, became the focal figure for key nineteenth-century debates concerning issues such as gender and sexuality, evolution and degeneration, science, empire and modernity. While the New Woman is located in the debates concerning the 'crisis in gender' or 'sexual anarchy' of the time, the period also saw an upsurge of new technologies of communication, transport and medicine. As this monograph demonstrates, literature of the time is inevitably caught up in this technological modernity: technologies such as the typewriter, the bicycle, and medical technologies, through literary texts come to work as freedom machines, as harbingers of female emancipation.

Download or read book Task Force Report: Science and Technology written by Institute for Defense Analyses and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents study results and recommendation intended to illustrate the potential contributions of science and technology to crime control. The report supplements and amplifies the discussion of science and technology in the general report of the President's Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice, entitled "The Challenge of Crime in a Free Society." Two chapters address the application of technology in police apprehension of criminals. Topics considered are the use of technology to reduce police response time, means to modernize the command and control process, and how to relieve the radio frequency congestion in most large police departments. Another chapter discusses aspects of court management, corrections, and crime prevention. The court- management discussion focuses on delay reduction in case processing. Two aspects of corrections addressed are the use of programmed instruction as a rehabilitation aid, and the use of statistical techniques to aid in correctional decisionmaking. Auto ignition redesign and street lighting are discussed as technological means to reduce crime opportunities. A chapter examines the uses of systems analysis for the study of the entire criminal justice system as an integrated whole. One chapter considers the potential role of modern information technology in the development of an integrated criminal justice information system. The final chapter outlines a program of research and development by which the Federal Government can stimulate a major infusion of science and technology into the criminal justice process and counter the broader problems of crime control.

Book Synopsis Forensic Criminology by : Andy Williams
Download or read book Forensic Criminology written by Andy Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-02 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text provides an examination of the aetiological development of forensic criminology in the UK. It links the subjects of scientific criminology, criminal investigations, crime scene investigation, forensic science and the legal system and it provides an introduction to the important processes that take place between the crime scene and the courtroom. These processes help identify, define and label the ‘criminal’ and are crucial for understanding any form of crime within society. The book includes sections on: • the epistemological and ontological philosophies of the natural sciences; • the birth of scientific criminology and its search for the criminal ‘body’; • the development of early forms of forensic science and crime scene investigation; • investigating crime; • information, material and evidence; • crime analysis and crime mapping; • scientific support and crime scene examination; and • forensic science and detection methods and forensics in the courtroom. The text combines coverage of historical research and contemporary criminal justice processes and provides an introduction to the most common forensic practices, procedures and uses that enable the identification and successful prosecution of criminals. Forensic Criminology is essential for students of criminology, criminal justice, criminal investigations and crime science. It is also useful to those criminal justice practitioners wishing to gain a more in-depth understanding of the links between criminology, criminal investigations and forensics techniques.
