Download or read book Inspiring Champions in Advanced Manufacturing: Parent Edition written by Terry M. Iverson and published by Blackstone Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up, we are often taught never to question the value of a good education. From the moment they “graduate” from making castles in sandboxes, the actions and interests of young adolescents are measured by how enticing they will appear on the almighty “college application.” But if you stop to consider that the total student debt in the United States is estimated to be $1.3 trillion (more than credit card and auto loan debt combined), you may begin to wonder what the true “value” of a college education actually is. In Inspiring Champions in Manufacturing, the indomitable Terry M. Iverson challenges our culture’s axiom that sustainable careers may only be achieved through a college education. Through his own love, heritage, and mastery of the fine art of manufacturing, Iverson contends that careers in manufacturing offer stability, security, and prosperity for our entire nation. Iverson illustrates the power of manufacturing through in-depth research, personal stories, and over forty interviews with some of the most remarkable authors, CEOs, sports figures, and other influencers. While half of the book speaks directly to parents, the latter half shepherds inquisitive youth curious about the options available to them. Inspiring Champions in Manufacturing teaches parents and students: Why cultural pressure steers parents and high school students toward college How college pathways leave even the brightest students in debt, deferring home purchases and more The untold potential of a career in manufacturing How the US has a skill shortage that rewards fulfillment with impressive salaries and advancement opportunities How technological advances have made manufacturing into a digital ecosystem versus an industrial complex Action plans for both parents and youth to get involved in manufacturing Inspiring Champions in Manufacturing provides parents and students a roadmap for career success, self-fulfillment, and a zero-debt foundation. With their eyes wide open, students will be free to envision the monumental potential that awaits them in a manufacturing career.

Download or read book Backlund written by Bob Backlund and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bob Backlund began life as a poor farm boy in the little village of Princeton, Minnesota, with a population of just over 2,000 people. He was a below-average student with a lackluster work ethic and a bad attitude, who hung with the wrong crowd and made a lot of bad choices. He was a kid whose life was headed for disaster—until a local coach took interest in him, suggested that he take up amateur wrestling, and offered to work with him if he promised to stay out of trouble. It was in North Dakota that Bob Backlund had the first of several chance encounters that would shape his destiny. While working out at the YMCA gymnasium in Fargo, North Dakota, where he wrestled for North Dakota State, Backlund met a well-known professional wrestler, “Superstar” Billy Graham. The men talked, and at Graham’s suggestion, Backlund was inspired to pursue a career in professional wrestling. Less than five years from that day, on February 20, 1978, Backlund would find himself halfway across the country, standing in the middle of the ring at Madison Square Garden with his hand raised in victory as the newly crowned World Wide Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion. The man Backlund pinned for the championship that night was none other than "Superstar" Billy Graham. Featuring contributions from Bruno Sammartino, Harley Race, Terry Funk, Pat Patterson, Ken Patera, Sergeant Slaughter, The Magnificent Muraco, George “The Animal” Steele, “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas, The Iron Sheik, and many others, this book tells the incredible story of the life and nearly forty-year career of one of the most famous men to ever grace the squared circle. Book Synopsis ‘Race Is Everything’ by : David Bindman
Download or read book ‘Race Is Everything’ written by David Bindman and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2023-06-26 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timely and revealing look at the intertwined histories of science, art, and racism. ‘Race Is Everything’ explores the spurious but influential ideas of so-called racial science in the nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth centuries, and how art was affected by it. David Bindman looks at race in general, but with particular concentration on attitudes toward and representations of people of African and Jewish descent. He argues that behind all racial ideas of the period lies the belief that outward appearance—and especially skull shape, as studied in the pseudoscience of phrenology—can be correlated with inner character and intelligence, and that these could be used to create a seemingly scientific hierarchy of races. The book considers many aspects of these beliefs, including the skull as a racial marker; ancient Egypt as a precedent for Southern slavery; Darwin, race, and aesthetics; the purported “Mediterranean race”; the visual aspects of eugenics; and the racial politics of Emil Nolde.

Book excerpt: The object of this work is to give the busy reader in acceptable form such a comprehensive knowledge as he would like to have, of the geography, history, picturesque attractions, peculiarities, productions and most salient features of our great country. The intention has been to make the book not only a work of reference, but a work of art and of interest as well, and it is burdened neither with too much statistics nor too intricate prolixity of description. It covers the Continent of North America, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian Dominion and Alaska. It has been prepared mainly from notes specially taken by the author during many years of extended travel all over the United States and Canada.
