Book Synopsis Financial Analysis of a Tropical Forestry Enterprise by : Sören Schopferer
Download or read book Financial Analysis of a Tropical Forestry Enterprise written by Sören Schopferer and published by Peter Lang Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study analyzes the financial viability of three forest management scenarios for the Deramakot Forest Reserve in Sabah, Malaysia: Reduced Impact Logging (RIL), Low Impact Logging (LIL) and Conventional Logging (CL). Three sustainable Annual Allowable Cuts (AAC) were calculated with the process-based model FORMIX3Q. The study reveals that harvesting is feasible even under the current degraded conditions and suggests an AAC of 10,000 m3/year for at least 40 years. The integration of a costing module allowed combining the surveyed cost and revenue-related data of the harvesting scenarios with key data, e.g. the AAC, as well as a detailed analysis with financial indicators, and a sensitivity analysis. The module also provides the total balance sheet and internal cost distribution.

Book excerpt: Written for the forest manager, land agent and the forestry/rural economy student, either at the technical or university level, this book describes how systems of cost and financial accounting and financial yield may be built up, every step being illustrated by a series of interrelated examples. Financial accounting gives a precise view of a forest venture from year to year, whereas financial yield endeavours to show the profitability of a tree crop over its rotation. Cost accounting probes into detail and is an essential management tool for budget control, profit maximisation and planning. It may thus be said that the book deals with an important and essential aspect of forestry
Book Synopsis Handbook of Forest Resource Economics by : Shashi Kant
Download or read book Handbook of Forest Resource Economics written by Shashi Kant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 825 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly recognized that the economic value of forests is not merely the production of timber. Forests provide other key ecosystem services, such as being sinks for greenhouse gases, hotspots of biodiversity, tourism and recreation. They are also vitally important in preventing soil erosion and controlling water supplies, as well as providing non-timber forest products and supporting the livelihoods of many local people. This handbook provides a detailed, comprehensive and broad coverage of forest economics, including traditional forest economics of timber production, economics of environmental role of forests, and recent developments in forest economics. The chapters are grouped into six parts: fundamental topics in forest resource economics; economics of forest ecosystems; economics of forests, climate change, and bioenergy; economics of risk, uncertainty, and natural disturbances; economics of forest property rights and certification; and emerging issues and developments. Written by leading environmental, forest, and natural resource economists, the book represents a definitive reference volume for students of economics, environment, forestry and natural resource economics and management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book critically engages with how the conservation of tropical rainforests is financed. Beginning with the context of tropical deforestation, alongside an overview of tropical ecology, global environmental policy and finance, the book reviews several conservation financing instruments. These include ecotourism and private reserves, debt-for-nature swaps and government domestic budgetary expenditures for state and national parks. Tropical deforestation and forest degradation are serious global environmental issues, contributing to global climate change, species extinction, and threatening the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities. Yet, many leading companies, individuals and governments are making a positive impact on tropical forest conservation to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions through the use of conservation finance. Conservation of Tropical Rainforests tells the history of international conservation finance and provides a variety of options for individuals, businesses, and governments to support conservation financing projects.
