Dans ce régime extrême, à certaines températures et densités de courant, apparaissent des sauts de tension abrupts. Le courant qui génère ces événements a une dépendance en température identique dans différents supraconducteurs à haut T[c souscrit], ce qui démontre le caractère intrinsèque de ce phénomène. Nous attribuons ces sauts de tension à la formation de phase-slip centers, qui sont des régions au-dessous de T[c souscrit], où la dissipation est très similaire à celle de l'état normal. La taille de ces domaines est liée au temps de vie des quasiparticules, que nous avons pu déterminer, et qui se révèle être anormalement long.
