Book excerpt: Living for 20 years with undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder, P.T.S.D. caused by military sexual trauma, M.S.T. and Gulf War Illness, G.W.I. has not made life an easy path for Sergeant Stephanie J. Shannon. In this, first book, Battling the Storm Within, Stephanie shares how her time of military service, and the resulting trauma she experienced, continues to affect her daily life, even 20 plus years later, a common story among military veterans. A brave and deeply personal memoir that details Stephanie's military experiences, and especially her struggles when transitioning back to civilian life, this book is a bold step on the path for recovery for all veterans. This book serves not only as a lesson of how to reclaim your life after PTSD, GWI, and MST, but also a call for change in legislation, government policies, the VA system, and military practices and procedures that impact the veteran population and their families. Stephanie's story is a story of struggle, survival, and healing; that empowers others to address their own personal traumas and overcome them, bring awareness to the public the many issues the veteran population face, and provide resources and solutions to veterans and others in need. Her mission is to empower others to face their own personal traumas, be healed, restored and live again.

Until heartbreak struck much closer to home. Picking up the pieces brings new friends and new challenges. Threats unseen and unexpected. Will the power of family bring them all through, together? An excerpt from Fighting the Storm: Etan didn’t have to look at Alex to know he was biting his tongue, dying to say something. He could feel how tense Alex’s leg was against his own, could just about hear his agitation. “What are you wanting to say, Alex?” “I don’t want to be an asshole, but if we have to set you up as a prophet, that’s what we need to do. I hated what happened in Maple Ridge and everywhere else. But we can’t have gone through so much hell to get here and let everything fall apart again. If people will follow the Great Prophet Etan and that lets us survive, then that’s who you need to be.” Etan did groan then, closing his eyes for a second. Not only because this was what he’d been afraid of. Because the words and the ideas sounded true. They felt true, no matter how much he might dislike them. “I don’t know if I can agree to that, not right now. I have no idea how to do any of this, much less create a new religion. I’m scared to death of making a hard situation worse.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you are confronted by a sudden storm, decide to face it and determine to fight through it. You cannot control the storms of life, but you can make your boat strong to face every storm. This book details a vivid account of a remarkable testimony of Dr. Samuel V.A. Kisseadoo regarding a tragic event that erupted during his summer 2009 annual mission trip to Ghana, West Africa. He got food poisoning from a meal consumed in a restaurant after a Pastor's and Church Leaders seminar that he usually conducts as part of his ministerial activities. An ensuing violent vomiting created more catastrophic events for his digestive system that ultimately cause the collapse of his lung and a near death experience. Dr. Kisseadoo narrates the grace, healing power, deliverance, and the mighty power of God that sustained him through the ordeal, and has made him the longest survived individual in the medical history of the entire world for such a health problem. The details include the remarkable role played by his dear wife Henrietta and family, and many friends, especially the Christian community. Rev. Dr. Samuel Kisseadoo is a Chartered Biologist (CBiol) certified by the Royal Society of Biology (UK). He holds a B.S. (Hons.) degree in Biology (KNUST, Ghana, 1977), M.S. degree in Ecology (KNUST Ghana), M.S. degree in Botany (Aberdeen Univ., Scotland), and M.S. degree in Environmental Science (Delft, Holland); Master of Philosophy in Biology (City Univ. of New York), Ph.D. in Biology (City University of New York, 1993), certificate in DNA Technology from Cold Springs Harbor Lab in Long Island (New York), and certificate in Parent Empowerment Leadership Training from the City of New York. Dr. Kisseadoo received a "Leading Scientist of the World Award" from the International Biographic Center in United Kingdom in 2007, for his years of excellent teaching and research with students. He has ministered to thousands of people since 1969, especially in Africa, Europe, and North America, and was ordained as a licensed Minister in New York in 1992. He is the founder and President of the evangelistic and teaching Christian organization Fruitful Ministries International Inc. (FM Int.). He is also an international evangelist, marriage and family counselor, author, singer, prayer minister, bible teacher, and conference speaker. He is currently a professor of Biology in the USA. His weekly radio broadcast on JOY 99.7 FM (accessed on the internet with MYJOYONLINE.COM) at 5:30am-6am on Saturdays in Accra, Ghana, is received around the world. Dr. Kisseadoo is happily married for 40 years to his dear wife and best friend Henrietta, and they have two children.

In Calm Within the Storm, Dr. Robyne maps out a kinder approach to taking on the challenges of life and developing authentic self-alignment and balance.By focusing on research-informed, sustainable, and achievable personal development practices, Dr. Robyne presents a new, attainable model for everyday resiliency—one that everyone can use to feel more grounded and capable. She identifies the obstacles that derail us and keep us stuck, and shows us how to enact our resiliency through stories, research, and practical strategies.

Book excerpt: This account of a disaster at sea during World War II is “a powerful and engrossing story of tragedy, survival, and heroism” (Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down). In the final days of 1944, Admiral William “Bull” Halsey is the Pacific theater’s most popular and colorful naval hero. After a string of victories, the “Fighting Admiral” and his thirty-thousand-man Third Fleet are charged with protecting General MacArthur’s flank during the invasion of the Philippine island of Mindoro. But in the midst of the landings, Halsey attempts a complicated refueling maneuver—and unwittingly drives his 170 ships into the teeth of a massive typhoon. Halsey’s men find themselves battling ninety-foot waves and 150 mph winds. Amid the chaos, three ships are sunk and nearly nine hundred sailors and officers are swept into the Philippine Sea. For three days, small bands of survivors battle dehydration, exhaustion, sharks, and the elements, awaiting rescue. It will be up to courageous lieutenant commander Henry Lee Plage to defy orders and sail his tiny destroyer escort, the USS Tabberer, back into the storm to rescue drifting sailors. Revealing a little-known chapter of WWII history in absorbing detail, this is “a vivid tale of tragedy and gallantry at sea.” (Publishers Weekly).

Book excerpt: This book is about a man who, in his heart, found himself convicted by God and wanted to get his life back on track. Along his journey God revealed Himself and gave him insight and understandings well beyond what he had ever hoped for. Because God repaired his fractured life and restored his soul, he felt an obligation to share his testimony and to pass this information along to all who will read it to help them to do the same. What he found out was that the world is not what it portrays itself to be. Many struggle and have no clue as to why they are struggling and furthermore have no clue where to begin to right their ship. This book puts God, your life and this world into a perspective that is easily understood so that you can withstand any storm that life may throw your way. It reveals things within Christianity that has been misunderstood and brings about clarity and enlightenment to your everyday living. This is not a book of fairytale or fantasy, it is rooted in reality. It does not sell a dream of health and wealth but what it does is show you the way to achieving a peaceful life. Religion can enslave you and have you living in fear of eternal damnation just as many other things in this world. It can also inspire, empower and liberate you from anything that attempts to contain or control you. This book is designed to inspire, empower and liberate you so that this life and the afterlife can be enjoyed and not feared. It reveals a simple, common sense, no nonsense way to your future destiny. You are all invited and welcomed to take this life changing journey.

Johnson, Jr., was the youngest federal judge in the country at the time of his appointment in 1955. During his twenty-four years on the district court in Montgomery, Alabama, Johnson handed down a string of precedent-setting decisions that were vastly unpopular at the time but that would prove to have profound consequences for America's future. Not only did Johnson's trailblazing opinions greatly expand the access of African Americans to their constitutional rights, but his opinions also helped to dismantle discrimination against women, prison inmates, and the mentally ill. Johnson paid a heavy price for his judicial vision, however, for he had to endure public scorn, death threats, and the outrage of a society that felt itself and its values to be under siege. Eventually Johnson prevailed, winning honor even in his native Alabama and a respected place in the history of the civil rights movement. Taming the Storm is the story of an authentic American hero and the era he did so much to define.

Book excerpt: I very much know that when we or our loved ones are going through some tough experiences, like a prolonged sickness, what we want to hear and what we want to know is that God still cares--to feel His closeness and to know He knows what we are going through. We want to know that God hears our prayers even in the middle of the night when no one else is there. What I strongly believe is that not a single prayer slips by God, because there's no time of day He isn't listening. God heard you ten years ago, and He heard you last week, and He hears you right now, and He's already listening for your tomorrow. In fact, He's listening so well, He already knows what you're going to say. I also know very well that God never says, "Oops." God is in control of the trials. God is not on his throne wringing his hands as he waits for the outcome of events. Take from it me, my friend: no matter how dysfunctional your background, how broke or broken you are, where you are today, or what anyone else says, you matter to our living God.
