Download or read book Interdenominational Faith Missions in Africa written by Fiedler, Klaus and published by Mzuni Press. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was not the European and American churches which evangelised Africa, but the mission societies. The missions from the Great Awakening such as the London Missionary Society and Church Missionary Society, or the Holy Ghost Fathers and the White Fathers, which started the process of Sub-Saharan Africa becoming a Christian continent are well known and documented. Less known, and less documented are the interdenominational faith missions which began in 1873 with the aim of visiting the still unreached areas of Africa: North Africa, the Sudan Belt and the Congo Basin. Missions such as the Africa Inland Mission or Sudan Interior Mission gave birth to some of the big churches like ECWA in Nigeria and Africa Inland Church in Kenya. It is the aim of this book to describe faith missions and their theology and to present an overview of the early development of faith missions insofar as they touched Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gordon Christensen and Geneva Noren were born in different parts of the country and into different hard times. Gordon grew up in the south end of Seattle in the 1920s, where his family faced many struggles in the New Land to which they had moved after World War I. Geneva was raised on a small farm in Dust Bowl Kansas where faith in God was the family's greatest hope. God proved His love and care for these young people as they learned to trust in Him in any adversity--lessons that would be the key to life or death as these young Christians found each other, and found their way onto the mission field in the Belgian Congo. Their adventures, escapes, and discoveries underscore these truths about their God: He is all powerful, all loving, and everywhere present.

Book Synopsis The Life and Letters of Philip Quaque, the First African Anglican Missionary by : Vincent Carretta
Download or read book The Life and Letters of Philip Quaque, the First African Anglican Missionary written by Vincent Carretta and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first edition of the correspondence of Philip Quaque, a prolific writer of African descent whose letters provide a unique perspective on the effects of the slave trade and its abolition in Africa. Born around 1740 at Cape Coast, in what is now Ghana, Quaque was brought to England by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. In 1765 he became the first African ordained as an Anglican priest. He returned to Africa and served for fifty years as the society's missionary and also as chaplain to the Company of Merchants Trading to Africa (CMTA) at Cape Coast Castle, the principal slave-trading site of the CMTA. Quaque sent more than fifty letters to London and North America reporting on his successes and failures, his relationships with European and African authorities, and his observations on the effects of the American and French revolutions on Africa. The regular references to his African mission in popular magazines made Quaque well known in the English-speaking world. Initially writing when the transatlantic slave trade went largely unquestioned, Quaque in his later letters traces the period of abolitionist fervor leading up to the ban in 1808. Although his employers supported and facilitated slavery, Quaque's letters reveal his evolving opposition to both slavery and the slave trade, particularly in his correspondence with early abolitionists. Quaque's life offers a fascinating perspective on transatlantic identity, missionary activity, precolonial European involvement in Africa, the early abolition movement, and Cape Coast society.
