Book excerpt: Fundamental book on the history of Spain, if you want to know in depth the causes pointed out by some investigators on the causes that triggered the Spanish Civil War, at least from the point of view of the experts who point out that this conflict had fundamentally social. The history of the war is very varied, highlighting the fiery defense of its interests on the part of both the upper and lower social classes, although other key factors in understanding the conflict, such as Recurrent interventionism of the army. This is because I have considered it of greater interest to study the elements related to the most disadvantaged classes of Spain at that time, putting special interest in the South of Spain (especially Andalusia). For this new edition I have corrected the grammatical and orthographic errors that characterized up until now my book dedicated to the study of anarchism in Spain from its earliest years, in the form of organized workers' struggle.

This is, which goes of end of the century XIX, with it I International, until them years of the II Republic and the Guerra Civil Spanish. Thus, according to the historical data we have, will make us a rough idea of the why of the strong attachment of ideas as anarchism among the peasant population Spanish, Andalusian and Granada, which deals with this book, as well as its possible relationship with the causes that originated the Spanish of the 36 war, as for example was the huge economic gap between rich and poor in the cited period derived largely from the unequal distribution of land ownership since, while a minority living in opulence, the working mass lived in complete destitution in many (mostly rural) areas of Spain, as are the cases of Andalusian Western, as well as Granada and Andalusia Eastern.
Book Synopsis Print Culture and the Formation of the Anarchist Movement in Spain, 1890-1915 by : James Michael Yeoman
Download or read book Print Culture and the Formation of the Anarchist Movement in Spain, 1890-1915 written by James Michael Yeoman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-02 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the formation of a mass anarchist movement in Spain over the turn of the twentieth century. In this period, the movement was transformed from a dislocated collection of groups and individuals into the largest organized body of anarchists in world history: the anarcho-syndicalist National Confederation of Labour (Confederación Nacional del Trabajo: CNT). At the same time, anarchist cultural practices became ingrained in localities across the whole of Spain, laying foundations which maintained the movement’s popular support until the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. The book shows that grassroots print culture was central to these developments: driving the development of ideology and strategy – broadly defined as terrorism, education and workplace organization – and providing an informal structure to a movement which shunned recognized leadership and bureaucracy. This study offers a rich analysis of the cultural foundations of Spanish anarchism. This emphasis also challenges claims that the movement was "exceptional" or "peculiar" in its formation, by situating it alongside other decentralized, bottom-up mobilizations across historical and contemporary contexts, from the radical pamphleteering culture of the English Civil War to the use of social media in the Arab Spring.

Book Synopsis Transatlantic Anarchism during the Spanish Civil War and Revolution, 1936-1939 by : Morris Brodie
Download or read book Transatlantic Anarchism during the Spanish Civil War and Revolution, 1936-1939 written by Morris Brodie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-08 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1936 and 1939, the Spanish Civil War showcased anarchism to the world. News of the revolution in Spain energised a moribund international anarchist movement, and activists from across the globe flocked to Spain to fight against fascism and build the revolution behind the front lines. Those that stayed at home set up groups and newspapers to send money, weapons and solidarity to their Spanish comrades. This book charts this little-known phenomenon through a transnational case study of anarchists from Britain, Ireland and the United States, using a thematic approach to place their efforts in the wider context of the civil war, the anarchist movement and the international left.
Book Synopsis The Spanish Anarchists of Northern Australia by : Robert Mason
Download or read book The Spanish Anarchists of Northern Australia written by Robert Mason and published by University of Wales Press. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1901, the year the six Australian colonies federated to become one country, revolution was being plotted across the world. Publicised in the newspapers and carried by migrants along global trade routes, the anarchist movement appeared prepared for a long period of power as one of the world’s dominant historical forces. In few places was this more evident than in Spain, where poverty and population pressure prompted increasing emigration. In anglophone Australia, governments had long been alert to the threat of radicalised migrants, and this book traces the forgotten lives of one particular group of such migrants, the Spanish anarchists of northern Australia, revealing the personal connections between the English-speaking British Empire and the world of Spanish-speaking radicals. The present study demonstrates the vitality of this hidden world, and its importance for the development of Australia.

Book Synopsis Anarchism, Revolution, and Reaction by : Angel Smith
Download or read book Anarchism, Revolution, and Reaction written by Angel Smith and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The period from 1898 to 1923 was a particularly dramatic one in Spanish history; it culminated in the violent Barcelona "labor wars" and was only brought to a close with the coup d'état launched by the Barcelona Captain General, Miguel Primo de Rivera, in September 1923. In his detailed examination of the rise of the Catalan anarchist-syndicalist-led labor movement, the author blends social, cultural and political history in a novel way. He analyses the working class "from below" and the policies of the Spanish State towards labor "from above." Based on an in-depth usage of primary sources, the authors provides an unrivalled account of Catalan labor and the Catalan anarchist-syndicalist movement and thus makes an important contribution to our understanding of early twentieth-century Spanish history.

This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anarchist Socialism in Early 20th Century Spain is the first English translation of and critical introduction to Ideario, a collection of newspaper and journal articles written by Spanish anarchist Ricardo Mella. Given that Mella is virtually unknown to the English-speaking world, this book provides readers access to his extensive body of work about Spain, human nature, and a world increasingly dominated by capitalism. Suitable for both the general public interested in learning more about anarchist ideas and for scholars studying twentieth-century Spain, the three introductory essays help to introduce Mella, ground his work in the context of Spanish anarchism, and draw connections between Mella and the urban in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Spain. Stephen Luis Vilaseca’s translation is accessible and engaging.
