This book was released on 2011-02-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discrete Mathematics and theoretical computer science are closely linked research areas with strong impacts on applications and various other scientific disciplines. Both fields deeply cross fertilize each other. One of the persons who particularly contributed to building bridges between these and many other areas is László Lovász, whose outstanding scientific work has defined and shaped many research directions in the past 40 years. A number of friends and colleagues, all top authorities in their fields of expertise gathered at the two conferences in August 2008 in Hungary, celebrating Lovász' 60th birthday. It was a real fete of combinatorics and computer science. Some of these plenary speakers submitted their research or survey papers prior to the conferences. These are included in the volume "Building Bridges". The other speakers were able to finish their contribution only later, these are collected in the present volume.

Download or read book Extremal Combinatorics written by Stasys Jukna and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a concise, up-to-date introduction to extremal combinatorics for non-specialists. Strong emphasis is made on theorems with particularly elegant and informative proofs which may be called the gems of the theory. A wide spectrum of the most powerful combinatorial tools is presented, including methods of extremal set theory, the linear algebra method, the probabilistic method and fragments of Ramsey theory. A thorough discussion of recent applications to computer science illustrates the inherent usefulness of these methods.

This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, dedicated to the memory of Gian-Carlo Rota, is the result of a collaborative effort by his friends, students and admirers. Rota was one of the great thinkers of our times, innovator in both mathematics and phenomenology. I feel moved, yet touched by a sense of sadness, in presenting this volume of work, despite the fear that I may be unworthy of the task that befalls me. Rota, both the scientist and the man, was marked by a generosity that knew no bounds. His ideas opened wide the horizons of fields of research, permitting an astonishing number of students from all over the globe to become enthusiastically involved. The contagious energy with which he demonstrated his tremendous mental capacity always proved fresh and inspiring. Beyond his renown as gifted scientist, what was particularly striking in Gian-Carlo Rota was his ability to appreciate the diverse intellectual capacities of those before him and to adapt his communications accordingly. This human sense, complemented by his acute appreciation of the importance of the individual, acted as a catalyst in bringing forth the very best in each one of his students. Whosoever was fortunate enough to enjoy Gian-Carlo Rota's longstanding friendship was most enriched by the experience, both mathematically and philosophically, and had occasion to appreciate son cote de bon vivant. The book opens with a heartfelt piece by Henry Crapo in which he meticulously pieces together what Gian-Carlo Rota's untimely demise has bequeathed to science.

Book Synopsis Combinatorial Algorithms by : Jiri Fiala
Download or read book Combinatorial Algorithms written by Jiri Fiala and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-09 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 20th InternationalWorkshop on CombinatorialAlgorithms was held during June 28 – July 2, 2009 in the picturesque castle of Hradec nad Moravic´ ?,located in the north-east corner of the Czech Republic. IWOCA — the workshopthat originated19 yearsagoas AWOCA— madea big step towards globalization this year. After 19 conferences held in Australia, Indonesia, Korea, and Japan, the 20th anniversarywas celebrated by taking the conference outside the Australasian region for the ?rst time. Another novelty this year was that the proceedings are being published by Springer in the LNCS series. Our Call for Papers brought an overwhelming response of the combinatorial community. IWOCA 2009 received over 100 submissions, more than twice the amount it received before. Most of the submissions were of exceptionally high quality and thus the Program Committee was faced with hard work and so- times hard decisions. Many very good papers had to be rejected because of the limitedcapacityoftheconferenceschedule. In the end,41contributedtalkswere presented during the conference — the maximum number that we could ?t in the program. We would like to thank all who sent their submissions and to congratulate all the authors of the accepted papers. They contributed to what was a most successful conference. We also thank all the authors who submitted posters for the poster session (not included in the proceedings).
Book Synopsis Surveys in Combinatorics 2024 by : Felix Fischer
Download or read book Surveys in Combinatorics 2024 written by Felix Fischer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-06-13 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains nine survey articles by the invited speakers of the 30th British Combinatorial Conference, held at Queen Mary University of London in July 2024. Each article provides an overview of recent developments in a current hot research topic in combinatorics. Topics covered include: Latin squares, Erdős covering systems, finite field models, sublinear expanders, cluster expansion, the slice rank polynomial method, and oriented trees and paths in digraphs. The authors are among the world's foremost researchers on their respective topics but their surveys are accessible to nonspecialist readers: they are written clearly with little prior knowledge assumed and with pointers to the wider literature. Taken together these surveys give a snapshot of the research frontier in contemporary combinatorics, helping researchers and graduate students in mathematics and theoretical computer science to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field.

Download or read book Number Theory, Analysis, and Combinatorics written by János Pintz and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Turán, one of the greatest Hungarian mathematicians, was born 100 years ago, on August 18, 1910. To celebrate this occasion the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, the János Bolyai Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Institute of Eötvös Loránd University organized an international conference devoted to Paul Turán's main areas of interest: number theory, selected branches of analysis, and selected branches of combinatorics. The conference was held in Budapest, August 22-26, 2011. Some of the invited lectures reviewed different aspects of Paul Turán's work and influence. Most of the lectures allowed participants to report about their own work in the above mentioned areas of mathematics.

Book Synopsis Recent Trends in Combinatorics by : Andrew Beveridge
Download or read book Recent Trends in Combinatorics written by Andrew Beveridge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-12 with total page 775 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents some of the research topics discussed at the 2014-2015 Annual Thematic Program Discrete Structures: Analysis and Applications at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications during Fall 2014, when combinatorics was the focus. Leading experts have written surveys of research problems, making state of the art results more conveniently and widely available. The three-part structure of the volume reflects the three workshops held during Fall 2014. In the first part, topics on extremal and probabilistic combinatorics are presented; part two focuses on additive and analytic combinatorics; and part three presents topics in geometric and enumerative combinatorics. This book will be of use to those who research combinatorics directly or apply combinatorial methods to other fields.
