Geothermal Loan Guaranty Program written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The guaranty program on electric and hybrid vehicle research, development, and demonstration considers two aspects of loan guaranties: (1) how is the loan guaranty, as an incentive device, best integrated into an overall project strategy, and (2) to what extent can cost-effectiveness measurements be introduced to the loan guaranty review and approval process. The report on the geothermal loan guaranty program is an overview of a large number of existing program elements which, in the opinion of the financial community or the historical record of predecessor loan guaranty programs, can be seen to be (or have potential to become) troublesome. Included are relevant administrative, regulatory, and managerial guidelines, commentary, and ideas. (MCW).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration has been authorized by recent legislation to enter into loan guaranty and interest assistance agreements related to specific energy programs. These loan guaranty programs are designed to encourage the private sector to participate in the development of alternative energy sources and the conservation of energy. Two programs are currently authorized: one dealing with geothermal energy; the other dealing with electric and hybrid vehicles. A third program currently under consideration by the Congress addresses the conversion of organic waste products into alternative fuels. An introductory overview provides a brief summary of: energy legislation, ERDA loan guaranty programs, basis of and purpose for the investigation, and scope. Subsequent sections of this report address related background information; methodology employed; data collection and analysis of the information obtained; and specific recommendations based upon the results of the analysis. Supporting information and reference data are included as appendices. (MCW).

Book Synopsis Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation by : Ottmar Edenhofer
Download or read book Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation written by Ottmar Edenhofer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-21 with total page 1088 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report (IPCC-SRREN) assesses the potential role of renewable energy in the mitigation of climate change. It covers the six most important renewable energy sources - bioenergy, solar, geothermal, hydropower, ocean and wind energy - as well as their integration into present and future energy systems. It considers the environmental and social consequences associated with the deployment of these technologies, and presents strategies to overcome technical as well as non-technical obstacles to their application and diffusion. SRREN brings a broad spectrum of technology-specific experts together with scientists studying energy systems as a whole. Prepared following strict IPCC procedures, it presents an impartial assessment of the current state of knowledge: it is policy relevant but not policy prescriptive. SRREN is an invaluable assessment of the potential role of renewable energy for the mitigation of climate change for policymakers, the private sector, and academic researchers.

Book Synopsis Deep Energy Retrofit Guide for Public Buildings by : Rüdiger Lohse
Download or read book Deep Energy Retrofit Guide for Public Buildings written by Rüdiger Lohse and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides detailed information on how to set up Deep Energy Retrofits (DERs) in public buildings, and shares in-depth insights into the current status of the major technologies, strategies and practical best practice examples of how to cost-effectively combine them. Case studies from Europe are analyzed with respect to energy use before and after renovation, reasons for undertaking the renovation, co-benefits achieved, resulting cost-effectiveness, and the business models employed. The building sector holds the potential for tremendous improvements in terms of energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, and energy retrofits to the existing building stock represent a significant opportunity in the transition to a low-carbon future. Moreover, investing in highly efficient building materials and systems can replace long-term energy imports, contribute to cost cutting, and create a wealth of new jobs. Yet, while the technologies needed in order to improve energy efficiency are readily available, significant progress has not yet been made, and “best practices” for implementing building technologies and renewable energy sources are still relegated to small “niche” applications. Offering essential information on Deep Energy Retrofits, the book offers a valuable asset for architects, public authorities, project developers, and engineers alike.

Book Synopsis An Assessment of ARPA-E by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book An Assessment of ARPA-E written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-08-28 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005, the National Research Council report Rising Above the Gathering Storm recommended a new way for the federal government to spur technological breakthroughs in the energy sector. It recommended the creation of a new agency, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, or ARPA-E, as an adaptation of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) modelâ€"widely considered a successful experiment that has funded out-of-the-box, transformative research and engineering that made possible the Internet, GPS, and stealth aircraft. This new agency was envisioned as a means of tackling the nation's energy challenges in a way that could translate basic research into technological breakthroughs while also addressing economic, environmental, and security issues. Congress authorized ARPA-E in the 2007 America COMPETES Act and requested an early assessment following 6 years of operation to examine the agency's progress toward achieving its statutory mission and goals. This report documents the results of that assessment. It includes both an operational assessment of the agency's funding programs and a technical assessment of its awards, to the extent possible.
