Book Synopsis Present Approach to Traffic Flow Theory and Research in Civil and Transportation Engineering by : Elżbieta Macioszek
Download or read book Present Approach to Traffic Flow Theory and Research in Civil and Transportation Engineering written by Elżbieta Macioszek and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents many valuable tips for making decisions related to traffic flow in the transport networks. The knowledge base in practical examples, as well as the decision support systems described in this book, finds interest among people who face the daily challenge of searching for solutions to the problems of contemporary transport networks and systems. The publication is therefore addressed to local authorities related to the planning and development of development strategies for selected areas with regard to transport (both in the urban and regional dimension) and to representatives of business and industry, as people directly involved in the implementation of traffic engineering solutions. The tips contained in individual sections of the publication allow to look at a given problem in an advanced way and facilitate the selection of the appropriate strategy (among others, in relation to the evaluation of BEV and FCHEV electric vehicles in the creation of a sustainable transport systems, development of ecological public transport on the example of selected cities, impact of drivers' waiting time on the gap acceptance at median, uncontrolled T-intersections). In turn, due to a new approach to theoretical models (including, inter alia, the application of genetic algorithms for the planning of urban rail transportation system, comprehensive estimate of life cycle costs of new technical systems using reliability verification algorithm, application and comparison of machine learning algorithms in traffic signals prediction), the publication also interests scientists and researchers carrying out research in this area.
Book Synopsis Implementation of Technology from Abroad by : David K. Witheford
Download or read book Implementation of Technology from Abroad written by David K. Witheford and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1995 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to pavement design, materials and testing, traffic, and research engineers and transportation planners. It will also be of interest to chief administrative officers and chief engineers of transportation agencies. This report describes the current implementation by transportation agencies in the United States of technologies that were developed abroad. This report presents several case studies, including mechanically stabilized embankment technology, asphalt pavement materials and testing equipment, a tunneling method, moveable barriers, an accelerated loading facility, and a bicycle and pedestrian planning process. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on the formal and informal processes that have been made by U.S. agencies to employ technologies and methodologies from abroad, including descriptions of both successes and failures and the reasons for implementation of the technology. The technologies that are described originated in France, Germany, Austria, Finland, and Australia.

Download or read book Unleashing the Power of 5GtoB in Industries written by Pengfei Sun and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will delve into how new ICTs, represented by 5G, collectively empower industries from the perspective of theories and practices. 5G is integrating with cloud, intelligence, big data, and applications to push the boundaries of industries and diversify industrial services. Starting from the background and value of industry digitalization, Section I introduces the new ICT infrastructure for industry digitalization, as well as a new support system based on this infrastructure to enable 5GtoB to bring new value to industries. Section II summarizes the success factors and four key capabilities for achieving 5GtoB success from methodological perspective. Abundant application cases are provided in Section III to explore the adoption of 5GtoB in key enterprises across industries, as well as the benefits brought to these enterprises. The final section analyzes the future evolution and applications of 5GtoB. 5G enables a plethora of possibilities. We believe that this book will inspire everyone in the 5GtoB industry chain to embrace 5GtoB and take the digital transformation of industries to new heights.

Book Synopsis Implementation and Outcomes of Fare-free Transit Systems by : Joel Volinski
Download or read book Implementation and Outcomes of Fare-free Transit Systems written by Joel Volinski and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this synthesis was to document the past and current experiences of public transit agencies that have planned, implemented, and operated fare-free transit systems. The report concentrates on public transit agencies that are either direct recipients or sub-recipients of federal transit grants and provide fare-free service to everyone in their service area on every mode they provide. The report will be of interest to transit managers and staffs, small urban and rural areas, university, and resort communities, as well as stakeholders and policy makers at all levels who would be interested in knowing the social benefits and macro impacts of providing affordable mobility through fare-free public transit. A review of the relevant literature was conducted for this effort. Reports provide statistics on changes in levels of ridership associated with fare-free service. White papers or agency reports identified by the topic panel or discovered through interviews with fare-free transit managers were also reviewed. Through topic panel input, Internet searches, listserv communications, and APTA and TRB sources, the first comprehensive listing of public transit agencies that provide fare-free service in the United States was identified. A selected survey of these identified public transit agencies yielded an 82% response rate (32/39). The report offers a look at policy and administrative issues through survey responses. Five case studies, achieved through interviews, represent the three types of communities that were found to be most likely to adopt a fare-free policy: rural and small urban, university dominated, and resort communities.

Book Synopsis Capacity and Operational Effects of Midblock Left-turn Lanes by : James A. Bonneson
Download or read book Capacity and Operational Effects of Midblock Left-turn Lanes written by James A. Bonneson and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1997 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research project was to develop a methodology for evaluating alternative midblock left-turn treatments on urban and suburban arterials. The methodology had to be applicable to three common midblock left-turn treatments: the raised-curb median, the flush median with two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL) delineation, and the undivided cross section. The methodology developed for this research focuses on the evaluation of midblock street segments on urban and suburban arterials. The basis for NCHRP Report 395.
