Book excerpt: By Roane Swindon, 2012/02/24 Book Review: Fearlessly Single by Nathi Mhlaba Society is bent on emphasizing the importance of relationships and marriage, so how can a single Christian woman cope in such a world? Author Nathi Mhlaba has been through all of this, and it seems that she has the answers. In her book Fearlessly Single: Diary of a Single Christian Woman, she explores the fact that women today are obsessed with getting into relationships and finding someone to marry. She also considers how difficult it is for a religious Christian woman to find an equally religious Christian man to marry. Through anecdotes, Mhlaba explores how she went wrong in her own relationships, and her experience has given her the insight to advise other single Christian women about how they can resurrect their relationships with God. She postulates that it is more important for a single woman to discover themselves - be happy in themselves, on their own - and to become closer to God, and then the perfect relationship will follow. Mhlaba has a sincere passion for her religion and for her newfound cause in life: to spread the word of God and encourage single women through the passages of her book, which are certain to be consoling to many of the South African women who continuously find themselves in bad relationships or feel without direction if they are alone. She is at pains to urge Christian women to be comfortable in the now and to remember that God has a plan for everyone. They just need to have faith, and remember that being single is an opportunity for them to be themselves and a blessing from God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you realize that you are the only person in the world who is called to live your exact life? Think about it: you are the only person who can live out your specific purpose. When life is hard and filled with trials and challenges, we would love nothing more than to have someone else take on those struggles for us. Though they may be uncomfortable, there is something honest about understanding that if you own them, those struggles can bring you to a point of realization and greater purpose than had you just given up. Fearlessly Made You: Surviving and Thriving in a Perfectly Imperfect Life takes you through the honest, authentic, and, dare we say, chaotic trials in the life of Kristie Tobias. Kristie is a seasoned healthcare and business consultant, a national speaker, a nonprofit board member, an advisor to the mayor of Pensacola, Florida, and a former Miss North Carolina International, all of which she achieved before reaching the age of thirty-five. Professionally, Kristie has broken down the barriers that young minority women struggle through to reach her goals. The journey has not been easy. At twenty years old, after years of sexual abuse and trauma, Kristie was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Kristie takes us through the realistic, messy, sometimes dark, but ultimately inspiring journey of her struggles with PTSD; her challenges with just trying to thrive in life when every obstacle seemed to bring her down; and her complicated relationship with her own self-worth, goals, and expectations. Fearlessly Made You isn't just about Kristie, it's about you. It's about understanding that your unique purpose in this life is not for life to be easy but to own the journey that is laid out for you and the direction you choose to take. Fearlessly Made You shows you that you don't have to always be perfect or wake up at the crack of dawn every morning to accomplish your goals. Your journey looks different to you than it does to anyone else, and Kristie encourages you to embrace your journey and not allow challenges to keep you from pushing forward through the struggles to live out your purpose.

This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotions in a Crusading Context is the first book-length study of the emotional rhetoric of crusading. It investigates the ways in which a number of emotions and affective displays — primarily fear, anger, and weeping — were understood, represented, and utilized in twelfth- and thirteenth-century western narratives of the crusades, making use of a broad range of comparative material to gauge the distinctiveness of those texts: crusader letters, papal encyclicals, model sermons, chansons de geste, lyrics, and an array of theological and philosophical treatises. In addition to charting continuities and changes over time in the emotional landscape of crusading, this study identifies the underlying influences which shaped how medieval authors represented and used emotions; analyzes the passions crusade participants were expected to embrace and reject; and assesses whether the idea of crusading created a profoundly new set of attitudes towards emotions. Emotions in a Crusading Context calls on scholars of the crusades to reject the traditional methodological approach of taking the emotional descriptions embedded within historical narratives as straightforward reflections of protagonists' lived feelings, and in so doing challenges the long historiographical tradition of reconstructing participants' beliefs and experiences from these texts. Within the history of emotions, Stephen J. Spencer demonstrates that, despite the ongoing drive to develop new methodologies for studying the emotional standards of the past, typified by experiments in 'neurohistory', the social constructionist (or cultural-historical) approach still has much to offer the historian of medieval emotions.

A fried egg that still has a pool of runny egg white clinging to the yolk is a definite no-no. Still, I must admit that it was with some pride that I read, in one review of my series A Cook on the Wild Side, that I had been given the sobriquet "Hugh Fearlessly Eatsitall"...' For almost two decades Hugh has been writing about food in all its guises. To some, his concept of 'good eating' might seem a bit skewed - he'd always bypass a McBurger in favour of a squirrel sandwich, and make a detour for fresh road kill - but to others he is a shining and shaggy beacon of good sense in a food world gone mad. Armed with a broad mind, a quick wit and a ready appetite, Hugh covers almost every area of global food culture, whether singing the praises of offal; playing 'poisson roulette' with the deadly fugu fish in Tokyo; analysing the tea-dunking qualities of some classic British biscuits; or reminding us that a reindeer isn't just for Christmas, but tasty all year round.
