Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first (since 1952), original and fully colorful account of the entire fauna of terrestrial molluscs of most of the Palearctic. It covers 46 families, 225 genera and 781 species and subspecies. Information on each species-level taxon includes a reference to the original description, complete synonymy, data on the type locality and type material, size, distribution, and, when appropriate, taxonomic and nomenclatural notes. Virtually all of the species are illustrated in color, both the photos and drawings usually being based on the type material from various repositories. The photographs of most of the types are being published for the first time. This is an indispensible tool to anyone interested in land snails and slugs.

Book Synopsis Analytical catalogue of fresh and brackish water molluscs of Russia and adjacent countries / Аналитический каталог пресноводных и солоноватоводных моллюсков России и сопредельных стран by : M. Vinarski
Download or read book Analytical catalogue of fresh and brackish water molluscs of Russia and adjacent countries / Аналитический каталог пресноводных и солоноватоводных моллюсков России и сопредельных стран written by M. Vinarski and published by Litres. This book was released on 2022-01-29 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The monograph summarizes information on taxonomy, nomenclature, distribution and some aspects of bionomics of molluscs of the former USSR fresh and brackish waters. This ‘Analytical catalogue’ is a deeply improved and updated version of two previously published catalogue works (Yu.I. Kantor, A.V. Sysoev “Catalogue of molluscs of Russia and adjacent countries”, 2002, in Russian; and Yu.I. Kantor, M.V. Vinarski, A.A. Shileyko, A.V. Sysoev “Catalogue of the continental mollusks of Russia and adjacent territories”, 2010). In total, the data on 424 nominal species of Bivalvia and 728 nominal species of Gastropoda are included into this book. The actual species richness of aquatic continental molluscs of the former USSR perhaps is significantly lower since validity of many of these nominal species may be questioned and a portion of them is destined to be synonymized in future. During preparation of the book the authors tried to take into account different views on systematization of the ex- USSR aquatic molluscs and to find some correspondence between the ‘Russian’ system (founded in 1960–1970s by Ya.I. Starobogatov) and the approach followed by malacologists working outside Russia. Current approaches to the ‘species problem’ in malacology are briefly discussed. Also, the catalogue includes information about distribution of all molluscan species among large regions of the former USSR area, some data about invasions of alien species and the conservation status of indigenous taxa in accordance with IUCN Red List criteria. The quantitative estimates of faunistic similarity between aquatic malacofaunas of the ex-USSR large regions and the results of the cluster analysis carried out on the basis of these estimates are also provided. The book is addressed to malacologists, biogeographers, hydrobiologists as well as to university lecturers and students.

Book Synopsis Zoogeography of Arachnida by : Petar Beron
Download or read book Zoogeography of Arachnida written by Petar Beron and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 987 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume merges all geographical and paleogeographical data on all groups of the arachnofauna. The book features topics such as the ecological factors, climate and other barriers that influence the distribution of arachnida. It also elaborates on the characteristics of the distribution such as arachnida at high altitude (e.g. Himalaya), in caves, in polar regions and highlights differences between the arachnofauna of e.g. Mediterranean regions vs Central Europe, West African vs Indomalayan and more. Furthermore, amongst other topics the volume also includes chapters on the systems of arachnida, fossil orders, dispersal and dispersion, endemics and relicts, regional arachnogeography, cave and high altitude arachnida.

This book is composed of 11 chapters, and begins with a brief description of a desert community, the Merkhiyat Jebels, with its diverse fauna and flora. The subsequent chapters look into the climate, geographical distribution, geologic and geomorphic aspects, and the evolution of desert community. These topics are followed by intensive discussions on desert plants, animals, and limnology. The last chapter describes the adaptive processes and human adaptation capacity to arid environments. This book will prove useful to upper division and graduate students in desert biology.

Book Synopsis Jawless Fishes of the World by : Richard Beamish
Download or read book Jawless Fishes of the World written by Richard Beamish and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-02-29 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hagfishes and lampreys, both examples of jawless fishes, are elongated, eel-like animals lacking paired fins, and are the only living representatives of ancient creatures that gave rise to current species of fish and, eventually, humans. This volume provides an overview of the current status of knowledge on a variety of topics related to jawless fishes, including their taxonomy, zoogeography, phylogeny, molecular biology, evolution, life history, role in the ecosystem, and fisheries and management of hagfishes and lampreys worldwide. This is the first book dealing exclusively with the various aspects of jawless fish species throughout the world. It brings together a number of papers providing new data on jawless fishes, and offers readers a range of useful information within a single reference, reflecting the growing appreciation for hagfishes and lampreys worldwide.
